Thankyou to Davecttr  for explaining the situation properly. I am not sure that I want to spend the whole cruise on my own !!! I may have to consider cancelling before final payment is due !!!

You don't have to cancel, you can opt to share a table if you want to. Perhaps I did not explain it very well :classic_blush:

Edit - P&O just changed the default options because of covid. You can still chose what you want.

We always have freedom dining and always opt to share a table. We like to meet other people and have made many friends that way. If P&O insist on separate tables then this is just another restriction that they haven't told us about. A P&O cruise is not the same as it was in many ways now. We are on Brittania next week and it will be our last cruise with them, other lines do it much better now.

Like you, we’ve made a lot of friends sharing tables in Freedom Dining - and had a lot of fun.  I’d miss all that, and as Wowzz said, on a table for two you’re almost as close to the next person.

We also love the socialising and making new friends .

You soon get used to dining alone; I've been cruising and land travelling alone for years and I like it, as well as it being less risky at present. I started asking for a table alone at breakfast as I have an extreme allergy to baked beans, which shouldn't IMO be served at breakfast, but..I would see the Head Waiter and explain that I would have to leave if someone ordered beans on my shared table, so was always seated alone. It was a short step from there to being alone at dinner or lunch. Now I prefer it. And of course if you eat in the speciality restaurants as I always do on several occasions on a cruise, you are seated alone.

P&O bean counters will love that. What ingredient are you allergic to or is it all types of beans and lentils.

We always have a table for two unless with friends, on the few ships we have been on most tables are so close together it’s easy to strike up a conversation with those close by we did frequently.

No I am allergic to the additives in the so called "tomato sauce" in which the beans are cooked; it makes me really sick and even seeing them on someone's plate or worse, smelling them, makes me feel extremely ill.

P and O have always been very understanding when I've explained.

On Iona a couple of weeks ago, we either booked on the app and put table for 4 , as we were in 2 cabins when we got to the dining room they just asked which cabin numbers and took both numbers.

when you give the cabin no they pop in a computer and that generates a ticket they hand to waiter who then takes you to the table.

I did see on the last breakfast a number of different people sharing a table for 8 .

I've been on two cruises in the last 5 months and on both you could request a shared table .So no need to worry about dining alone. Your unlikely to have the same guests every night however I'm sure this could be arranged on board if a group of you wanted to stick together

When Lidl Italia stopped selling baked beans we experimented with online recipes, lol. We ended up with cannellini beans with a splash of chopped toms and a smidgion of Worcester sauce. Not great but more natural I suppose.Brian.
