Mrs f. Posted May 26, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2022 Our Vista cruise in 2023 shows something called Complimentary Shipboard credit. Why is Oceania giving me this? It's separate from our cruise points credit.
HiFi43 Posted May 26, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 26, 2022 Shipboard Credit is given to every passenger booking as a benefit and can be used to pay for any on-board expense not included already. These can be anything from paying for excursions, buying drinks, buying items in the shops on-board, getting spa treatments, attending wine tastings etc. As you move up in cruise points through your loyalty your Shipboard Credit amounts increase. We have taken many Oceania cruises and are not heavy drinkers so we now find we have trouble using up all our Cruise Credits on many cruises and end up buying clothes and other things in the shops to use our extra credits by the end of the cruise. Why? Because they expire at the end of the cruise if you don’t use them. As the old saying goes…”you can’t take them with you”

HiFi43 Posted May 26, 2022 #6 Share Posted May 26, 2022 The amount of Shipboard Credit you get is dependent on a number of items. Part of the reason we get so much Shipboard credit is our Platinum status from having sailed so much, part is because as our O Life benefit we choose credit, part of it has to do with credit we get for paying with an American Express credit card. For example, We just booked a 26/day cruise and each got: $150 Amex card $700 O Life credit $250 Platinum credit $150 spa credit For a total of $2500 in credit for both of us Plus we got a $598 gratuities credit for the cabin
Rare ORV Posted May 26, 2022 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2022 The default selection for Olife is Onboard Credit. I'm betting on that. Generally TA supplied credit is not listed pre cruise in your planner, unless it's some type of pass through originally from O.

Then you don't have trouble using up the OBC on things you might not otherwise buy. I also have more watches than I need.
HiFi43 Posted May 26, 2022 #9 Share Posted May 26, 2022 ORV, thanks for the reply. Yes, we know we can book without the O Life credit but we don’t make that decision until the final payment date to preserve our options.

rialannah Posted May 26, 2022 #11 Share Posted May 26, 2022 If your Vista cruise was scheduled to depart from Venice and has been shifted to Trieste, then every passenger receives a Complimentary Shipboard credit.

You have a AMEX platinum or centurion credit card, pay for the cruise with that card and then your TA contacts AMEX and gets an approval code which is given to Oceania and you receive a $250.00OBC....not all promotions are combinable so must read fine print to make sure it is combinable with AMEX,
Rare mauibabes Posted June 3, 2022 #17 Share Posted June 3, 2022 Add some SBC if you are a NCLH Shareholder because an extra $250 for a bit longer cruise is always nice. 💵 If I may suggest this, any regular Oceania cruiser MUST be a Shareholder. If you are a cruiser new to Oceania, with todays stock prices, it isn’t much more than a cruise deposit to purchase 100 shares, BUY 100 shares and then reap the SBC benefit on every future cruise. You won’t be going back to any of those mass market brands and traveling with the thousands of passengers you put up with in the past. Small ship cruising is where it is at. IMHO this is a NO BRAINER! Mauibabes

Unless you travel a lot then they don't always pay off.

Was $650. But it does pay in many ways == OBC on cruise line. 10X points sometime on bookings (last one was SS with max of 50,000) = 50,000 points (=$500) $200 airline credit per year $200 extra credit on airline surcharges $200 hotel credit per year Free Global Entry Renewal Free CLEAR $100 off HBO Max $20 per month streaming credit (equals free SiriusXM) = $240 per year Airline Lounges with Priority Pass = Priceless $20 off wireless bill for 6 months -$120 Plus there are lost of monthly specials.
