jerseyjjs Posted June 13, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 13, 2022 I'll be on the Magic in September and I'm wondering if Carnival will have the Thursday night game on or will it be blocked because Amazon Prime has acquired the rights to the game. I'm skeptical that Carnival's weak wifi service will have the capacity to stream it on my laptop/phone. Any IT folks able to offer advice?
mz-s Posted June 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 13, 2022 Oh you mean to watch it on your own. Generally the internet isn't good enough to stream video. But you can try. I just wouldn't buy the internet just for that. Pretty sure you'll need the Premium plan to even have a chance to watch it.

I'm not so sure Carnival will be able to show it around the ship (Sky Box bar, casino bars, Red Frog Pub) with it being strictly on Amazon unless Carnival has Direct TV. They only show ESPN. So if it's not on ESPN it won't be shown onboard.

They do have a package that gets them NFL games. And you can’t always go by what is on regular ESPN. Last December I was not expecting the Big XII championship to be On vista because it was not on an espn network, but it was on. Yet a game that was on normal espn was not on.

That's why, at least 4 years ago, I watched about 4 early Sunday games, a few later games too. I was just wondering if they use can use Direct TV or whatever Carnival uses to broadcast the TNF game through Amazon.

I have cruise one week during football season each year since 2018. They have had a package that gets them NFL games including all prime time games. I would expect it to be on. In 2019 when I was on Magic it was on in the red frog pub and the casino bar. One year the they had no signal and the Thursday night game was not on at all. I would not count on being able to stream it with their internet.

But every time I've asked them in the sports bar to play a game or something, they ask "is it on ESPN?"

If you want to watch golf or nascar or basketball or hockey it generally needs to be on an ESPN channel. They do sometimes get some special deals for the World Series or the masters. I watched the World Series on panorama last year and I believe that was on fox. They always have a special deal for the NFL. I’m not guaranteeing they’ll show every NFL game but they will show some. Whether or not you get to see a particular game May depend on the bartender. I have seen the Eagles game be on in the red frog pub and at the Same time the casino bartender is telling people he can’t get that game. Makes a lot of sense, the NFL is certainly America's game these days. I just cannot watch it on TV.
Rare Saint Greg Posted June 13, 2022 #12 Share Posted June 13, 2022 Kind of weird having people who don’t even watch football on the ship try to jump in and answer the question. I mean…I don’t try to answer questions on the spa. 1
Lane Hog Posted June 14, 2022 #13 Share Posted June 14, 2022 (edited) This year will be a challenge for the non-streamers... Sunday games aren't a problem (yet) because DirecTV has Sunday Ticket included in their commercial packages. Monday night games aren't a problem because ESPN carries those. Seven of the games on TNF will still be carried on NFL Network, and Amazon will be working with local network affiliates who typically air games in the home markets (e.g. Green Bay games are almost always carried on local station WGBA NBC26 unless it's a game being aired nationally on either CBS or FOX). I don't know if the programming packages sold to the cruise lines includes east/west coast national affiliates or not, but presumably any games in NYC or LA might be available if they do. The other eight games will only be available nationally via Prime. Edited June 14, 2022 by Lane Hog

So far, Amazon hasn't announced a package for sports bars in land, but they are missing out on a revenue stream if they don't. Carnival is unlikely to purchase it, but maybe .. dallasdan Posted June 14, 2022 #18 Share Posted June 14, 2022 I was on the Dream in December and we watched NFL games on Sunday, Monday and Thursday in the Casino bar and TVs through out the casino. If I remember the dream didn't have a sports bar.
jerseyjjs Posted July 24, 2022 Author #19 Share Posted July 24, 2022 Just putting this out there. I sent an email to CCLSupport and this was the response: Hello Mate, It will depend on the satellite broadcasting and location of the ship. If we do have access, we we will have it on. Cheers, John

ChuckF Posted July 25, 2022 #25 Share Posted July 25, 2022 Someone said they can show whatever they want to pay for. In that vein, I think it depends on the home port and the demographics of the ship. We're going on the Dream out of Galveston in October, and I'm hopeful that the Astros will be playing their way to the World Series. I would expect many of the passengers sailing out of Galveston will have some level of interest in their progress, so I would expect them to have some venue where the games can be seen. As much as it repulses me, it is likely that the Dodgers will be on a similar tract. So, sailings out of Long Beach may be in the same boat, so to speak.
