You will be so far off the coast it really would not make a difference. They need to get away from the coast to get the casino open

Rare Coral Posted July 12, 2022 #5 Share Posted July 12, 2022 Port side will fill up quicker as it is the side that faces land. Though I agree it doesn't matter.
Rare JimmyVWine Posted July 12, 2022 #6 Share Posted July 12, 2022 I always choose the sunset if I can. So that would be starboard.

You are close enough to the coast at times that you can see it especially if you are on one of the higher decks.
In Toronto Posted July 12, 2022 #8 Share Posted July 12, 2022 It depends on the ship. We sailed on one of the Holland America Line ships and it left Vancouver and sailed between the mainland and Vancouver Island. We sailed at 4 pm and since it was end of June, there was daylight for many hours. The scenery along there was stupendous! We were on the starboard side, facing the mainland and I would definitely recommend that side. If you are on one of the larger ships that sails on the west side of the island, it might be different. I highly recommend picking a ship that sails inside.

Wouldn’t all ships leave Vancouver heading south to Victoria, then point west toward open water, and then sail due south to LA? That would put the starboard side away from the mainland and not facing it. Or am I missing something about the navigation to LA?
Rare donswife Posted July 12, 2022 #10 Share Posted July 12, 2022 Do you like to watch the sunrise or sunset from your balcony?
Rare Ken the cruiser Posted July 12, 2022 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2022 I like to sit on the balcony, so we would book an aft-facing cabin, if that was an option. If not, we would pick the port side to avoid the afternoon sun.

Ricbr Posted July 12, 2022 #13 Share Posted July 12, 2022 I am coming from the East Coast for our Alaska trip in 2 weeks. I picked the Port side to face the land figuring that Starboard may have more light in the evening creeping through the curtains. Was thinking it may be a little darker on the other side to help me sleep. I know the sun will rise early but with being used to a time zone 3-4 hours earlier I figured it wouldn't be that bad. Just assumed (never just assume!) that it was a question re an Alaska cruise. Pay no attention unless you are going on an Alaskan cruise! LOL!
