XtaSea Posted August 29, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2022 Anyone know if Celebrity sells any decent cameras (point-and-shoot, dslr, mirrorless, etc.) in any of the on board shops? Thinking of getting a newer camera and while I know I'll get a much better deal elsewhere, we've got a lot of OBC for an upcoming cruise. It's non refundable, and we've got upgrades and excursions covered, so got to blow it on something.
FreestyleNovice Posted August 29, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2022 GoPro’s (Max, 7, 8, 9 and 10 I think) memory cards etc for sure. Will check the Edge’s Photo section again later this week. Besides the iLounge I haven’t seen much electronics on any X ship, it’s more perfume, jewelry, watches and some clothing/totes.
Rare Fly and Sail Posted August 29, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2022 I recommend to cash out your OBC at the casino and then use the cash to buy something proper back home (or use it for your next cruise). The electronics onboard the ships are ridiculously overpriced and often outdated. Celebrity's iLounge is a prime example for that.
Algebralovr Posted August 30, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 30, 2022 I’ve seen a point and shoot a couple of times. We actually bought one, as our waterproof camera decided to stop working, and the ship had a newer model of the same one. Price was slightly higher than off Amazon, but not by much. Arizona Wildcat Posted August 30, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2022 Nothing you would want to purchase. Cash out through the casino if needed and buy at home.
XtaSea Posted August 30, 2022 Author #6 Share Posted August 30, 2022 Sounds like it might be questionable I'll find much on board regardless of price or quality. Probably buy local or Amazon and leave the OBC for DW and the jewelry sales. Thanks all.
FreestyleNovice Posted August 30, 2022 #7 Share Posted August 30, 2022 Two point and shoot cameras on display onboard Edge at the moment. No price tags. Regarding the iLounge, we’ve found that too in the past. This sailing (Med, with Barcelona as one of the ports) they are not even taking the effort to set up articles for sale.. besides the generic accessoires in the glass displays. Must be a Spanish VAT thing, might go the casino route to get our OBC. Can anyone enlighten me, do we have to load it all on a slot machine (“casino account”) and print out the cash out ticket? Thanks!

Cliff notes, if you have say $1000 in OBC, you do a $1000 room charge at the casino which wipes out the OBC then simply "cash out" and collect it at the cashier. If you don't want to worry about taking cash home, bring the cash to guest relations to apply to your account.

Unless it's an emergency, (left camera at home), check what other people here have suggested.

You'll need to bet them all once and keep and cash in the regular chips you win. For the relatively inexperienced, roulette, played conservatively, gives the best return. To be clear when you do a room charge at the casino it is not promo chips.

Anyone is welcome to repeatedly read my post until they’re able to comprehend it. One is welcome to quote me to specifically point what they can’t comprehend. My instructions above were clear, for most. Edited August 30, 2022 by NutsAboutGolf

Charge slot credits to your room account, enter them, print the voucher, cash out. Voila! Some people have said that on certain ships such as Reflection that doesn't work but I've now sailed on 5 different vessels where it was a cakewalk. The only difference was that the non-revolutionized ships (S-Class) couldn't charge through the machine and you have to get paper vouchers from the cage. A little annoying but still not problem. I'm doing $3k per day (my fee waiver maximum) and they never bat an eye.

We bought a nice Canon SX70 HS onboard Reflection a few years back with our OBC (about $550 as I recall). It's a nice DSLR camera. I'd recommend you go to the shop the first day aboard because they only have very few of the "higher-end" cameras on each sailing.
