What do you do - first night in dining room

If you have MTD, then you do not have an assigned table, and you must wait in the line.  The topic above regarding walking directly to your assigned table applies to traditional dining only.

And that is incorrect information.  You can request the same table and wait staff every evening in MTD.  You have to wait to be seated only on first evening.

So weird how that quote shows I made the post. This was someone else's response to my statement that I was surprised I didn't have the same wait staff every night at MTD.

Post 22 is mine. Post 23 is a response to mine, which is what you have quoted here. Not sure how that happened. 🤔

Good info here. I normally travel solo, and never eat in the MDR, but going with family in Dec., and will make a point of seeing where our table is when we board. Anything I can do to alleviate more work for the short staffed ship, I will gladly do. Right to the table it will be for me.

Do you feel everyone should do this even if they know where they are sitting or do you think it’s okay if someone decides to bypass everyone and go directly to your assigned seat?  Just curious.

Of course!  If all of us who know exactly where our tables are located go ahead and walk in and sit down, the line would be much shorter for those who need help finding their tables to be escorted to their tables by staff.  We always go to the MDR in the afternoon and locate our table so we'll know where we are going on the first night.

Of course not!   Why would I think it's okay for someone to take MY ASSIGNED SEAT in the dining room regardless of whether they waited in a line or not?  The point is for people who know where their own table is to move on into the MDR and go to the proper table, thus getting out of the way of others who don't know the location of their tables.

Where on the app can I find this?

Once you leave the ship you lose access to the app. I think it is under Account, but it is also on your Seapass.

When I'm traveling with a group (family) I always link the reservations so I have access to everyone's Seapass information.

Interesting reading the responses.  We have usually waited 10 min past TD start time.  That way there is no line by the time we get there.  This was just unusual for us because my brother joined us on this cruise.  He has a lot of cruises under his belt.  Well, he got in line (probably 20-30 people in front of us).  I told him we don’t have to wait in line because we know where we are going. His husband said are you sure?  I think everyone has to get in line.  I said that’s for people who need an escort to find their table.

My brother strolled right past everyone but as I got towards the front, I turned around to make sure my wife and brother in law were following me.  That’s when a group of passengers told us “there’s a line…you are cutting”.  I said no…I already know where my table is.  “Doesn’t matter!” I pointed to our table which was probably 30 steps inside the dining room and said, “my table is right there”.  The guy was rude and said, “you are still cutting in line”.  I turned around and kept going.  My brother in law didn’t look too happy as he felt we broke some kind of rule.  He followed me in though.

I knew when I got back home I would ask cruise critic.

Your story of the guy standing in line chastising those who didn't and proceeded to their table reminded me of a tender port story.   Tender operations were slow and when I arrived back at the port after a long hike, I could see that the line wrapped around itself and there was no way the last tender would be leaving as scheduled.  I found a nearby bodega and bought a couple of beers and found a bench under a shade tree where I could watch the line of people standing in line in the sun.  Before long a few other people joined me and we had a nice little party going.  When the line was down to the last 75 or so and the crew was starting to take down their canopy, the shade tree group got up and moved toward the line.  One woman in line looked at us and had the audacity to exclaim "Well!  Some of us have been in line in the sun over an hour" to which one of the shade tree group replied "Well!  Some of us are smart enough to get out of the sun."

You only have to be on the last tender.
