fizook Posted September 27, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2022 Has anyone been able to cruise with Silversea without a passport? For example - it was stolen / lost just before the cruise.
Randyk47 Posted September 27, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2022 (edited) Good luck with that. Silversea will not risk rejection by one or more of the countries on the itinerary. Edited September 27, 2022 by Randyk47
Mr Luxury Posted September 27, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2022 You won't be able to sail without a passport on any ship.

Actually US citizens can sail on round trip cruises from US ports to the Caribbean on some mass market cruise lines with a birth certificate and other ID. If they need to fly home from one of the islands, that's where the problem occurs. I wouldn't do it, but it's done every day.

They require a passport for all cruises.
Randyk47 Posted September 27, 2022 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2022 I think it also only applies to closed loop cruises out and in to a US port. So for the Caribbean that would mean the very few Silversea itineraries.

Texas Tillie Posted September 28, 2022 #9 Share Posted September 28, 2022 I was responding to Mr Luxury when he posted you couldn’t sail on any cruise ship without a passport. Also said it was round trip and in the Caribbean. I sometimes wonder about people’s reading comprehension when they jump in to correct you when you’ve actually already said it. I should be used to that on the internet.

I'm certainly aware of what you say is true. People have been caught out when falling ill and having to leave the ship in the Caribbean area finding themselves in trouble as a result. OP, you will need to get your passport renewed or replaced before embarking. (Assuming it's a SS ship you are sailing on!). I actually misplaced my passport 3 weeks prior to sailing on the Muse in the Med. Luckily I was able to get it replaced in a day or so. I knew it was in the house somewhere and which I annoyingly found a month or so after my return.
Rare ronrick1943 Posted October 3, 2022 #12 Share Posted October 3, 2022 If it was lost or whatever, you can make an appointment in Washington DC and get a replacement we’ll you wait—-it does cost a bit but it can happen.
