what's your largest purchase onboard Carnival ship?

It was on a Princess ship (not Carnival, but the same corporation) a camera lens. While off the ship and having dinner in Edinburgh before attending the Scottish Military Tattoo, DW hung her camera on a hook in the ladies' room, and it fell. It turned out that the camera itself was ok, but the lens was no longer in working order. Luckily, both her camera and what they sold onboard were the same brand, Nikon.

In 2011, I paid $450ish for Tanzanite ring. Never had it appraised but I still love it and wear it frequently. I've since bought earrings (Vegas) and a pendant (Grand Turk) with stones matching size, shape and color.

We haggled

Ditto. Haggled for a very nice watch. Got it down maybe 25%. I’m a lucky girl in that my hubs has always looked at jewelry as investments. It doesn’t depreciate. It goes up. Our later retirement years are probably in a jewelry box. Lol.

I'm a little surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, but... I've placed deposits on future cruises back when they had future cruise desks.  One time I booked two in the same session.  I think the deposits were $250 for each; the cruises themselves were much more than that.  I'm not sure whether the OP is counting "total financial commitment" or "actual amount spent", but I think this is the right answer for me.  I haven't spent as much in the casino, or in the gift shops, or on things like Internet access.

$1200 for Dream Studio photo package on Carnival. I won $1500 in the casino the first night of the cruise, so I scheduled a photo shoot. I didn't intend to get the large package, but my husband and I had never had photos done like that, so I went for it. I knew you could try to get the price down, but I don't feel comfortable doing that. It's just not me, but I have a lot of respect and admiration for people who are good at getting a deal. I loved the pictures so much. They used a little "photo magic" (that's what the photographer called it, anyway). It smoothed out some of my experience lines (wrinkles), but it didn't change me so much that I didn't look like me. I wouldn't do it again in the next 20 years, but it was worth every penny to me. We got the photo release and all the photos on a jump drive, so in addition to the beautiful album I got with the package, I came home and made an album of our trip on the Walmart site. That turned out so cool with our photos, the pro photos, and captions.

My wife never buys any type of jewelry onboard any ship.  She prefers the jewelry stores in ports where she can haggle over the price.  She's made a few great deals over the years.

Never paid what they start out wanting on the ship.

We took the plunge at an art auction, paid $1500 for 10- Thomas Kinkade prints, then another $3000 to get them framed and shipped.  Gave one to each of our 6-kids for Christmas, still have 4-others hanging in the house.  Had one appraised (after TK passed away) and it was $1,500.  They will only increase...

A 25th anniversary ring.  I figured I’d best get it while DH was encouraging me.  🤷‍♀️

nice!

i was on an MSC cruise with a friend and we were a few drinks in.  We had been convinced to put in a guess on the size of the tanzanite ring to win it and the guy told me I was close.
I figured he was just trying to con us but we showed up for the draw anyway. While there I spotted a ring I loved.  I took a pic and sent it to my husband expecting a no!  His response was “well they just upped our line of credit”. Not the response I needed.
i didn’t end up buying the ring but I was close. Don’t tempt me. 😂

turns out I was very close in the tanzanite ring but someone guessed right on. And he was there for the draw.

The most expensive purchase I ever made onboard was when I signed my parents, my wife, and myself up for the Behind the Fun tour.

It's a pricey tour, but....   Did y'all enjoy it?    I've done BtF numerous times and always learned something new or saw something "extra" that I hadn't seen before.

Most expensive purchase I've ever made from Carnival aside from cruises and Cheers was the Private Oasis at Half Moon Cay, for members of our Roll Call.

Naturally the port visit was scrubbed due to weather, and I got a cash refund at Guest Services.   $1700 or so.  I wanted to ask for an armed escort back to my stateroom.  🙂

The BtF is fascinating option.  Ive always deferred being someone concerned it would ruin the "magic" for me.

Totally illogical.  Especially when i disclose i used to work at Walt Disney World entertainment and i highly recommend folks do the tour of the employee corridors(tunnels) under the park.

I have spent $0 and even made money by finding coins in the casino. My weakness was the tiny newspaper stand in Nassau in the little park by the port. I'd buy 2-3 papers local and international and read them on the quiet empty ship with no lines at the food stations.

Well I proposed on a cruise. Took wife to jewlery store on board just to get her finger sized. She started looking and picked out $2500 wedding set. Thought to myself I had got off fairly light. But she thought about it and decided she wanted bigger. So hen we got to shore back it went. She found a much more expensive one of course,  I also bought 5 Kinkades at the art store.

Absolutely.  The tour of the ship was fascinating, but the best part was that I spent some time talking to one of our guides, a young man, about his life and goals and experiences as a cruise ship employee.  You hear and read a lot about what life is like for people working on a cruise ship but it was terribly interesting hearing it first hand.

DH and I suspect at least one couple has created a new child on board. A minimum of eighteen years of expense and a lifetime commitment far outweighs the expenditures mentioned to this point. We hope the child wasn't named Funship Freddy.😁

Yup, honeymoon 1984. He is 36 now. Ironically his middle name is Frederick
