Hello cruisers!

I thought I would attempt a live review of my forthcoming Transatlantic Cruise on the Jewel of the Seas which leaves Barcelona on Tuesday 25/10.

Now I know that I am going - Covid test done by Zoom this morning and NEGATIVE! Thank goodness - I am now officially in holiday (vacation) mood.

Today will be all about finishing off packing, I always pack too much, ensuring all my documentation is ready and getting some sleep.

I have a taxi booked for 3 a.m. to get me to Leeds Bradford airport for my 6 a.m. flight to Barcelona - one of my favourite cities.

I am staying at the Ikonik Hotel on Las Ramblas and have booked a sunset catamaran jazz cruise for 6 p.m. tomorrow. Before that I aim to just mooch around, eat, drink and buy some flowers for my cabin.

I will obviously update you on that tomorrow.

I have a spacious balcony cabin on deck 9, I am travelling solo and I just love a Transatlantic cruise - hope you will join me virtually to see and hear how it all goes.

Cheers

Pat

The only slight negative is leaving this little girl, Millie, behind. But she will be well looked after and it’s only 2 weeks! 439BFAF8-9305-49AE-AFBA-AC589DA010BA.thumb.jpeg.63a4ddc6da8987bed987af393c88f7e1.jpeg

Leaving the fur babies behind is always the hardest part. 😩

Have an amazing time!

Oh no! I feel for you, I was very jittery until I had my negative result earlier.

I hope it’s a smooth crossing too! Enjoy your next cruise.

I will be on this sailing as well. I just got my negative test. I had tested at home outside the 2 days just for my own sake before flying. Had to wait for my hotel room to be ready, and didn’t want to be that person taking a test online in the lobby. Went for a walk, room was ready when I came back. Then I had a bit of a hard time getting into my navica account but all set now.

Hello from Barcelona!

Up at silly o’clock to catch my 6.20 flight from Leeds Bradford to Barcelona where we arrived 15 minutes ahead of schedule!

I had arranged a car to my hotel via Welcome Pick Ups and used their app to let the driver know I was early, he was in arrivals as soon as I collected my suitcase. So highly recommend. I have already booked them to take me to port in the morning.

I am staying at the Ikonik Hotel on Las Ramblas as as there was a room ready before 11 am they let me check in and go to the room straightaway! Result!

Very happy with the room and it overlooks Las Ramblas so a good vibe all round.

Pics of room and view below.

A little rest now as have been up since 02.15 this morning 😱 then a little wander on Las Ramblas and La Boqueria market. Pics to follow.

Some pics from a great day in Barcelona. Boqueria market and then the Sunset Jazz cruise which was lovely. Very relaxing.

Managed a siesta after the market and before the cruise. Bought some flowers for my cabin, I’ll put up a pic when they have been arranged.

Just had dinner (lamb chops) overcooked but lots of them, and a margarita, not as good as it will be tomorrow.

An early night for me and then onto the main event! The transatlantic cruise on the Jewel of the Seas tomorrow.

Night, night.😘

Hello from the Jewel.

Such a breeze checking in and boarding. My car picked me up at 10.30 and I was on board by 11.20.

Dropped off my hand luggage as part of The Key perks and had an enjoyable lunch as part of Key too.

Staterooms are now open so off to unpack.

see you soon

And we’re off!
Still waiting for a vase after 3 hours! I have improvised but not a good arrangement yet 😱 don’t want to cut down the birds of paradise or gladioli until I know how tall the vase is!

About to get ready for the diamond and up Welcome Aboard meet and then dinner and then maybe the casino or 3F6C7C26-3F3D-49EF-9300-4E4A99801B11.thumb.jpeg.1c6f455031aa5048d58112af4c00887d.jpeg38231A1A-06BA-4E90-A442-D99F672AAF4C.thumb.jpeg.e571994fc0b6e61a6a00ee0dab39bce7.jpegan early night! Only time will tell.

@seadog , tonight I may have my first Kraken.

cheers

Flowers duly arranged.
kraken colada tried, and again! Wow. Thanks @seadog

As almost a live review virgin, I made the mistake of not taking my phone to dinner! Sorry no pics tonight 🙄

I ate in the MDR, chicken Waldorf salad, prime rib and cheese with a glass of Pinot noir - all good.

no poker in the casino so played Ultimate Texas Hold ‘em for an hour and lost $25 so pretty good 😀

11 pm ready for bed - I’ll see you tomorrow.

We are also aboard.

Checking in was, indeed, very fast. No line at the door.  No line at the security screening. And no line for the check in rep. I think it was 12 minutes from getting out of the taxi to the Windjammer.

There are apparently only about 1100 pax, so about half full. There are a total of 4 Barcelona transatlantic cruises, all sailing within about 10 days. So there was a lot of competition.

The Jewel is a great sized boat and in very good shape.

Looks to be a very pleasant crossing.

I love the size of the ship and agree she is in great shape.

So quiet with so few passengers but I quite like that. The casino was the quietest I have ever seen on any ship but it is the first night, so fingers crossed for a poker game this evening 🤞

So seas are very calm at the moment but due to storms ahead and to enable us to avoid them, we are missing the Azores and Madeira and going to Tenerife and La Palma!
Better than cruising through a storm!
First world problems!
