Maybe there shouldn't need to be a workaround but it's far from a perfect world. As mentioned there are different clientele on the two lines and Celebrity doesn't rely as heavily on casino revenue. I'm sure a good number of smokers do just that. It just means that my money stays in my pocket longer. 😁

MSC also has a smoke free casino.  But their running/walking "track" goes right through the smoking area.

I'm sure that the bean counters have analyzed this every which way they can. I have read of many studies that link gambling and smoking together so it does make sense from a revenue viewpoint to allow smoking. I do gamble a little but not very much and I wouldn't gamble more if the casino was smoke free.

Probably true, but I don't know exactly how you would set up such a study.

And that sounds like revenue lost by Carnival.

Carnival made the casinos nonsmoking last Christmas as a COVID precaution and it was quickly reverted. Although I’m not sure if it was reverted due to revenue lost or a desire to return to normalcy. My hunch is it was due to revenue lost.

A whole bunch of interviews, more than likely. As I understand it the affects of gambling and smoking on the brain create a similar affect, but I haven't looked at it all that closely. (I do recall that when I smoked I did tend to gamble more, mostly by playing the lottery which I very rarely do any longer. Could just be confirmation bias, who knows.)

Are the two mutually exclusive? Could not both have been equally compelling?

I do not complain about smokers in the casino, discos when that was allowed...

A couple decades ago, when I would still reluctantly venture onto the dance floor, I got burned while dancing thanks to a careless woman out there with a lit cigarette. She was oblivious to it, oh well. I've heard of "light up the dance floor", but not light up ON the dance floor!! Glad that's a thing of the past. 🙂

Speaking of things of the past and people holding lit cigarettes, sometime in I believe the mid 1980s we flew from NY to San Francisco to attend my youngest brother's wedding. We were in non-smoking but the smoking section was immediately behind us. A couple had lit cigarettes the entire time; they never smoked them, just had them lit and waved them. It was among the worst experiences I have ever had, I felt like I was ready to die.

As you said, I am Glad that's a thing of the past. 😊

Perhaps but the Casino butters the bread at Carnival Corp so what they want, they get typically.

It’s not just a Carnival issue. We were on three different RCI ships last month and people were firing up on the balconies. The worst was the Navigator out of So Cal. We’re currently on the Celebrity Solstice and one thing that I love about X is the smoke free environment including the balcony which fellow cruisers seem to show more respect for each other. I think this is why we prefer X over the others. We’re boarding a Carnival ship next month. The first time on Carnival in 18 years. Will be interesting to experience the product after such a long break but it was a hard deal to turn down. Casino offer and we chose a ship close to home.
