Icon of the seas looks intimidating to us without kids

There were 2 sets of kids. The first set are the ones I was speaking of. They were toddlers. The second set were the teens pictured in this attachment. The teens climbed on top of the sculpture and took pics on it. This pic shows them standing on the stage around it but they did actually climb to the top. I’m sure it’s on RC surveillance for the ship. The other guests next to us were gasping when they saw it. We were all like wow, all of Jamie’s had a front view. I’m sure the teens posted the pics on social media. Maybe searching RC or anthem of the seas hashtags will help you find their pics.

I see this and read the "incident report"...  so what?  Some kids did something you didn't approve of for 10 minutes out of an entire week.

"I’m sure it’s on RC surveillance for the ship."

LOL

Interesting, fingers crossed. Would be nice to have new smaller ships with all the technology and glitz of the bigger ships. Maybe updated specialised restaurants too

Yep my thoughts exactly.

They could do so much with a brand new class of ship that size.

Get it just right and they could build 6 or 7 of them to completely replace the aging part of the fleet. We really appreciate what the smaller ships have to offer these days (maybe we r just getting old?) But do sometimes miss some of the features and glamour of the new ships. Range of dining venues as you mentioned is one of those things we miss.

The name mentioned "project discovery" also kind of fits as the smaller ships can go to smaller often more interesting ports which cannot accommodate the mega ships.

RC in my opinion needs to do this to retain the range of itineraries and current passenger base.

I never cruise during the summer or on school breaks. Royal is geared towards families and the demand drives prices higher so I avoid those times both to save money and avoid times when there are lots of kids. TBH, the kids aren't usually the problem, I prefer not to cruise with parents in stressed parent mode, so much yelling.

Anyway, I strongly suggest you try Virgin Voyages. No kids, no stressed out parents, and the food is the best I've had at sea, by a lot. It is at a higher price point but they have occasional good deals.

The kids are overwhelming on the Wonder and the Icon will be no different...

I was lucky enough to go on Wonder in September out of Barcelona and happily there were very few children onboard. A great way to see a brand new ship. Given its new home port, it will probably be no different in atmosphere than the theme parks down the road. Too bad for anyone without kids wanting to cruise it now.

IDK.  It is pretty easy to identify those ships that cater to families.  The prime family vacation times are no mystery.  So, someone who doesn't want to be around kids books a family oriented cruise.  Pretty much a guarantee they will be back here to complain about it.

My suggestion is to not voluntarily do things you know you won't enjoy.

Way too much common sense. Can't have that, better to make an entire post complaining about a ship that you refuse to sail on lol. There is a plus side, less crotchety folks means more room for us. I want to sail on Icon for sure, it may be my first fly to sailing in fact. I hope other lines follow and have similar design offering but kick it up a notch and have even more levels of fun in a nice open space design with maximum air, sunshine, sea views, sky views and loads of outdoor seating and spaces. I dig it immensely!

I honestly couldn’t care less if they’re climbing on an art sculpture but the parents will when it gets damaged and they have to pay for it. Then, they’ll wish they actually did their job as parents. It’s a statue, not a playground. Such trashy behavior for a Royal ship. It’s the anthem of the seas, not the margaritaville 😂

I have a different perspective. We are empty nesters now… but I welcome all “amusement park” ships because we sailed several times on ships overrun with kids without amusement park.

It’s MUCH better when kids are attracted to amusement parks and don’t overwhelm all others areas.

That’s being said Icon won’t be our priority.
