The cruise we did in October P&O site also said afternoon for Gib so used the site above and it showed a later time which turned out to be correct.

Again I have to ask why P&O do not post port times? Does anybody know? The site quoted without a name means nothing as we cannot guess which it is.

I thought P&O use to post the times back in the day. sea scanner.com if that is allowed to be posted don't see why it shouldn't its helping people.

Agree. I would have thought P&O would put the times on their itineries but they do not.   With their behaviour in the last couple of years I would be suspicious of why they do not.

Only a thought but if they put a time and the ship doesn’t arrive by that time people will moan more so by putting morning or what ever they have some leeway I guess.

Actually that statement may contain an element of truth. Discuss

In that case either P&O are not confident of arriving on time(or even missing the port altogether) or they can't be bothered. Both are a  distinct possibility.

They can state their expected arrival and departure times as long as they explain what expected means

Exactly.  There are always disclaimers.  Weather and unforeseen events can impact on anticipated port times but that is true for all cruise lines who do publish timings.

Also the case for cruise lines which do publish timings.

I emailed P&O for port arrival and departure times for our upcoming cruise on Arvia 2nd April.  They emailed back with the timings a couple of days later.

Can I please ask how long before your cruise departure did you email P&O for port times?  I have an interest in them for a 30 night cruise in September, but am thinking they may be more likely to give the proposed times nearer the cruise date.

I emailed them on the 5/1/23 for our cruise going on 2/4/23, so just after paying the final balance.

Thanks for the reply, after final payment sounds a good idea to me and is often when we start looking seriously at the ports.

Personally I would want to know before the final payment in case they were changed after the payment which seems to be a thing that they do. I may want to cancel the cruise.

It does make you wonder though why they don’t publish timings. I was having a look at the Celebrity website last night and they give very detailed timings.

As do virtually every other line. I wonder what Molecrochip will say about this. I am sure he will have an answer.

Thanks for the replies, very useful.

It seems that P&O don't want you to know arrival and departure times so you don't organise your own tours,

We had arranged afternoon tea at Reids Hotel in Maderia at £38 each but had to cancel because of the early (4pm) departure of Iona from Maderia, the ship's Afternoon Tea at Reids was £76 each!

Overall we don't like Iona and we are very disappointed at how down market P&O has gone.

Going off topic slightly, but what is the actual difference between the P&O excursion to Reid's as compared to booking it yourself? Other than the price! 😂

Your right they really are down market letting all the riffraff on now.

Which actually proves my point that cruising soon will be only for the snobs and wealthy.  I, as a member of the 'riffraff' section of the public will now not be cruising with such people as I would be out of place with those who profess to cruise every week or so they say.

The P&O trip visits a view point first. The tea is in a private area. Booking on your own tea is on the terrace. The price is £56 with P&O

Guys… can you realistically feel confident enough to pre book ‘private’ excursions if you don’t know the actual times you will arrive and depart? I rest my case 😊

Yes,

If you are scheduled to arrive in the morning and leave late afternoon i.e. in the Caribbean then I feel its safe to go on a 2-4 hour tour. For long tours I agree that I would not risk it, On a P&O tour in Java we arrived back over an hour after sailing time despite having a police escort that forced cars off the road . Tour operators say they know the in port times of the ships and say they offer a guarantee to get you back but again would you trust them on a long trip.

Arvia in St Maarten on my trip listed as ‘depart evening’, left in the afternoon 🤷‍♂️

We're on the May 12th version of the Baltic itinerary (B312) which is slightly different to B322, and Tallin is on our booking confirmation as 7.00 arrival and 17.00 departure.

I don't particularly like the terms 'early morning' and 'afternoon' etc., which are P&O's favoured descriptions (and there's a FAQ relating to the times somewhere on the website; I haven't looked for it recently but recall seeing it some time ago) but it does relate to the timings we have been given for our May cruise. For example Helsinki, 8.00 to 22.00 the following day is 'morning' to 'late evening'.

I am all for it becoming more affordable, got no interest in living in the past  which is very popular on here, as long as the accommodation is good the food good the entertainment is good we are happy and obviously being able to relax is of vital importance to us.
