New to MSC - smoking (casino, lounges, etc)?

Not to start a debate here, but just interested in the smoking policy onboard.

I've watched a couple of videos (different ships)and thought I heard mention of "this area is smoking", referring to a couple of indoor lounges - one being in the Yacht Club.

Could you guys tell me where smoking is and isn't permitted? The casino appears to be (on the Seashore at least) right off the open atrium - does that whole area tend to smell of cigarettes?

THANKS

It various by ship.  But in general most of the smoking areas are outside.  There is smoking areas in the casino and I know some ships have dedicated lounges that having smoking.  Most areas and lounges are non smoking at these from the US

Seashore has no cigar room.  For the most part. smoking areas are outside on the starboard side (the side most MSC ships use.  One exception is Meravilgia which seems to favor port side, and has an indoor smoking area between the buffet and the front of the ship.  In YC on Seashore, the smoking areas are outside on the front of the Top Sail Lounge on deck 16, and on the One Pool deck on 19.  MSC tend to be more relaxed on casino smoking outside of the US.  Used to not be allowed on US-based Caribbean cruises, then was changed to allow smoking within an area of the casino, which is plit by a center aisle.

Hi Tom,

Just got off less than 3 weeks ago. Smoking in the casino was allowed at the slot machines. Some days it was heavier than others but was not really spreading out to other areas. Many just sit at a machine and smoke and not play.

This statement concerns me.  Particularly on the pool deck.  I presume there is a designated alcove for the smokers and they are not allowed to smoke on the entire One Pool deck.  I am particularly interested in any intel regarding designated smoking areas within the Yacht Club on board MSC Seascape.

Sorry it is of concern to you, but as a nonsmoker, I don't think it is bad. The Seaside class are all the same on YC public area layouts.  On the One Deck, smoking is not allowed at the bar area, but is allowed on the Starboard side at the tables and by some of the open lounger areas.  In the front balcony of the Top Sail Lounge, smoking is on the starboard half.  As long as we stayed on the port side on those decks, it really was not intolerable.

Here is an idea of where the smoking areas are.  Keep in mind that on the One Pool Deck, it could be expanded towards the front as well (to the right of the circle shown).  The circled areas are the one place on each deck where  ashtrays are laid out.

Meraviglia YC had a very isolated smoking area outside. It was to starboard, never noticed any smoke at all.

I never noticed any smoking inside at the the YC anywhere.

I played a good bit at the table games in the casino, never really noticed any smoke.

Hi all....

about to go on the Meraviglia next Sunday out of Brooklyn for a B2B.   How smoky is the casino in the slots areas?  I've read the thread but I'm still not sure about the casino overall...

Thanks!

Happy Sailing!!   🙂

The Seashore opened a smoking casino area in a small room next to the Sports Bar in November. It is completely enclosed, so only a minor smoking smell if you happen to walk by when someone is entering or leaving. There is no smoking allowed now in the main casino, that I have seen.

Seascape is that way as well.
