Help understanding time difference and all aboard time in Cozumel

Recommended Posts

I'm travelling on Oasis in April and am sooo confused as to the whole time change and all aboard time, etc.
Our itinerary lists us in Cozumel from 7 am to 6 pm. Is that Cozumel time or origination port (Florida) time?

And when they say 7am-6pm, when do we realistically get off the ship in the morning and would all aboard be 5:30? Trying to figure out what time to plan our (independent, not through cruise line) chocolate tour followed by beach break.

Thank you!

The times listed are ships times.  How that will relate to the time in Cozumel depends on whether the Captain adjusts the ship time.  Sometimes they do and sometimes they don't.  On our trip this past Christmas on the Wonder the Captain adjusted our time ahead by an hour after we departed CocoCay to that we would match St. Marten and St. Thomas and then it was adjusted back after we left St. Thomas.  This doesn't always happen and you will be told on board.

We have never had the time changed when on a western Caribbean itinerary (Cozumel, Jamaica, Costa Maya, etc) and we've been to Cozumel probably 8 or 9 times.   Stay on ship's time and if there are any changes they will tell you.  All aboard time is 30 min prior to departure time.

We have.  Did a B2B on Liberty.  One cruise the Captain changed the time the time, the next sailing he didnt.

We must have been in the same sailing! We have had that happen also!

To the OP, @SuperPlannernot sure whether you are trying to arrange a private driver or what exactly you need to schedule? Opening times in Cozumel are obviously listed as local time (EST year round). Drivers and tour operators are aware what relative time ships arrive. Keep a mechanical watch on ship time, or don't let smart phone/watch auto update.

Yes, be aware of phoned and watches that auto update the time.  An old time is great for cruising.... stays on ship time and you don't care if it's stolen, really.

Not in a tender port.  The last tender is usually scheduled to leave 45 minutes before ship's departure time,. They will keep running tenders to the ship as long as people are still in line, but no one should count on that as 15 minutes of wiggle room.

People need to pay attention to time changes and all aboard/last tender times on their own sailings rather than trying to really on one-size-fits-all advice on Cruise Ctitic, which even if given in the interest of being helpful, may not be accurate in every circumstance.

In general you will run your entire cruise via Ship Time, not local time.

7am arrival, expect to be cleared and off the ship between 7:30 and 8:00a pending any weather or issues docking.

You should be back on board the ship at least 30 minutes before All Aboard. If 6pm is the departure time, all aboard is going to be 5:30 most likely. Again, ship time.

Oasis doesn't tender and Cozumel isn't a tender port.  So, yes,  it is accurate.

So how does everyone plan for your own excursions in that case?

Contact the tour operator for what you want to do.  Tell them what ship and what date you're going to be in port (don't tell them the time).  They will know how things relate.  As mentioned, make sure you have some way to keep track of what "ship time" is before you get off the ship (as a backup).

The discussion expanded from the original question to other ports, including in your own post, and other ships.  So I'll stand by my advice not to take anything said in a CC forum as the gospel truth applicable to every situation.

We are planning to take a taxi to the Mayan Cacao factory for a tour. They start at 9:00, 10:00, etc. and then going to take a taxi over to Paradise Beach for the rest of the day before returning by taxi to port. Trying to figure out which tour time to pick based on this time change issue...

THanks!

I Think They  have the same time in Miami and Cozumel, what s the problem....

Cozumel does not observe Daylight Savings time. It is the same time now when Miami is on EST, but when Miami "springs forward" to EDT next month, Cozumel will be an hour behind until we "fall back" in November. Grand Cayman is the same.

The answer to this question always depends on the cruise date and if the ship changes time..
