Aruba76 Posted February 18, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 18, 2023 We purchased two open bookings on our cruise in October. There was a special going on, and we had 18 months instead of the usual 3 months in which to assign the bookings to a specific cruise. We did this last week for two cruises next year. When we tried to buy the insurance from Allianz for those two cruises, we were told we wouldn't be covered for pre-existing conditions. It was explained to us that the purchase date was in October, and we were not within the required two week window for the full coverage, even though the cruise invoice is dated February 8, 2023. Has anyone else had this experience, and is there any way around it?
ymncruise Posted February 18, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 18, 2023 In those cases, I bought the insurance through the cruise line. Now I pick my cruise during the two week window so i have better options.
Babr Posted February 18, 2023 #3 Share Posted February 18, 2023 Eligibility for time-sensitive benefits like pre-existing conditions, CFAR, and financial default are determined by initial deposit. In this case, your initial deposit was the purchase of a future booking. The same is true of booking a subsequent cruise with FCC from a previous one. The initial deposit date will be determined by the first cruise. There are policies that allow the pre-existing conditions waiver at final payment, if you are interested in that. Call Trip Insurance Store with the details of your trip for assistance in getting the right coverage.
Happy2cruise Posted February 18, 2023 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2023 Were told by an insurance company deposit is determined by the date you actually book the cruise not the FCC. Could be wrong but that's what was told to us.🤔
Babr Posted February 18, 2023 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2023 https://tripinsurancestore.com/initial-trip-deposit-date/ Apparently, it depends on which policy you buy. It also appears that there are policies that would meets the needs of the OP to cover pre-existing conditions at initial deposit. Good news for both situations. That is why I recommend calling the professionals to get the details straight.

PelicanLvr Posted February 18, 2023 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2023 I have purchased a policy thru insuremytrip that covers pre-existing conditions if purchased within x days of final payment. It was more expensive....but it is out there.
wrk2cruise Posted February 18, 2023 #8 Share Posted February 18, 2023 Yes there a some which cover pre-existing conditions as long as purchased by final payment date. A friend failed to get insurance early and just got it prior to final payment and it wasn't bad. Covered pre-existing conditions for people not traveling (elderly parents). Some would only cover for people traveling. He went through The Trip Insurance Store. Steve is great.

Rare whitshel Posted February 20, 2023 #10 Share Posted February 20, 2023 Allianz's preexisting condition waiver is they look back 120 days from when you purchased the policy. You can have pre-existing conditions, as long as nothing has changed in the last 120 days, you're covered. If you have a heart condition and take a certain med and have been for a year and your Dr hasn't changed anything in the last 120 days, thats not considered a pre existing condition. Hopefully that makes sense. If something happens or you're diagnosed after you purchase the policy, thats not considered a pre-existing condition. Arizona Wildcat Posted February 20, 2023 #11 Share Posted February 20, 2023 There are dozens of insurance companies and thousands of policies for travel insurance coverage. As suggested - call an expert. Same as buying a car. Would you go to the nearest dealer and buy on the spot without doing at least some research about other cars or dealers?
