Trappedontheboat Posted February 24, 2023 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2023 All the time I was on NCL ship I saw different colors of the room keys. Is there any pattern they use when they assign the color? It does not seem it is attached to the latitude level. Does anyone know anything about it? Rare scooter6139 Posted February 24, 2023 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2023 (edited) I think the color is just Random, or you have Haven status. Edited February 24, 2023 by scooter6139
Trappedontheboat Posted February 24, 2023 Author #3 Share Posted February 24, 2023 (edited) If you do not know just let me know what color you had and what level you currently possess or if you got the room via casino or smth like that. Just want to get the whole picture Edited February 24, 2023 by Trappedontheboat

I sail haven, so I only have yellow/goldish color. But I saw people with green and purple. While that topic does not answer the question - it is a good theory

The first time I cruised with NCL I sat next to a Diamond while we waited to board. She had the same-colored card as me, so it cant be the Latitude level. And for example @sailingshipseven if you are Diamond or Ambassador and not in a suite, your card would still be green.

And with so many cruisers wearing their cards on lanyards, it’s easy to spot the first-timers, the suite people, and the Haven folks. There also is another card color that I would call lavender which can be used to designate special cases. We have received them twice. Once was on the Epic on a Western Mediterranean cruise. That itinerary can be booked Rome to Rome or Barcelona to Barcelona. Most folks travel from Barcelona, but to be able to easily distinguish those who embark at Rome, the staff sometimes issue the other color key card. Another time we had made prior arrangements to disembark the ship part way through the cruise, so they gave us the odd colored card to make it easy for the security officers to spot us.

My first card was Orange...has been the Greenish card ever since. My friend was in the Haven on Prima and his card was Purple.
wcook Posted February 26, 2023 #16 Share Posted February 26, 2023 (edited) On another line, getting a different colored room key polled near the top of “reasons you want to reach the next status level.” Kinda surprised NCL doesn’t do this. Doesn’t cost anything and makes people happy. Edited February 26, 2023 by wcook

Sure, it’s important to let strangers know what level you are. 🤔 Staff can see it in the computer.

romalley99 Posted February 26, 2023 #19 Share Posted February 26, 2023 (edited) Sometimes the ships will run out of certain card colors and will use others in their place. Someone mentioned above the colors which is accurate... Orange, New Cruiser... Green, Returning Cruiser... Purple... Suite (S-Class OR Club Balcony Suite)... Gold/Tan, Haven. I went on the Norwegian Star in July and August 2022... I had a Haven Key. Now, obviously, the Star does not have a Haven, but they ran out of Purple cards and were waiting for a new shipment from Miami to come in (we were in Iceland, so it was difficult). They finally "borrowed" some from Prima when they docked next to each other and got the correct purple ones back for my last leg. 🙂 Edited February 26, 2023 by romalley99

It is more prevalent at the casino bar where all of the casino players flash their different color drink cards where status really does matter.

latebloomer56 Posted February 27, 2023 #22 Share Posted February 27, 2023 We had purple each cruise we were in suites except DOS on the Gem it was gold. I don't remember the cruise on the Dream way to many years ago that was our first NCL trip.

Casino green drink cards can get them well drinks while black ultra cards can get them just about anything the bar has to offer. Both cards get them bottled/boxed water, energy drinks, etc. They have players card with their tier level, but all of their perks are automatically added to the room account (OBC, wine, snacks, shore ex, unlimited internet, etc.)

So true! We have been known to flash that Ruby card there, but of more value sometimes is the tip folded next to it😉
