Casino Table Minimums

Well, I only play blackjack (am a tournament player on land) so can only provide substantive info on the blackjack tables on HAL:

The $6 min table is always open when the casino is open, starting in mid-morning (about 10 am) on sea days; after the ship clears the port on port days -- which is usually in the evening.  However, that's a 6:5 table and is generally populated by the "beginners".

The higher limit table on most of the ships opens in the evening, although if you request it (and there are sufficient dealers) they will sometimes open it in the daytime on sea days.  The high-limit BJ table is generally $25 min, although I have seen it on some ships as low as $15 min.  And that is a 3:2 table -- the only kind I play on, land or sea.  I'd chew ground glass before I'd sit down at any 6:5 table 😊.

Is $6 min just regular $6 minimum or is that $5 minimum with a required $1 side bet? I imagine that house edge is pretty high either way in a 6:5 game.

Another note about the craps table (at least on the Rotterdam) everyone on the staff were extremely friendly and obliging. By the third night we were like old friends (old friends who take my money with a smile).

I generally only play craps to socialize while having a few drinks so I'm happy to hear that the minimums are lower on the ship. I'm used to $25 minimum on land.

I presume that the $6 min is just for the hand.  Not really sure because, as I said, I've never played that table. Probably side bet available because a side bet is available on the high-limit table.

I sat down at a table once and played a couple of shoes without a BJ. As soon as I was finally dealt one, then paid me 6:5. I collected my chips and left !!!

I've been on a couple of HAL ships, and while I can't speak for the Nieuw Statendam specifically, I've found that minimums for Craps and Blackjack usually hover around $5 to $10, depending on the time and day. As for Craps odds, they typically follow standard casino rules.

Standard except for the "odds" bets, or behind the line. On HAL those bets can only be twice of the "line" bet or the "come" bet.

For craps odds, many casinos offer 3-4-5x odds, meaning you can bet up to three times your pass line bet on the 4 and 10, four times on the 5 and 9, and five times on the 6 and 8. This is pretty standard on most ships I've been on.

But I prefer more online casinos. On wuzz88, where I play blackjack, the minimums can be quite low, which is nice for beginners or those who don't want to risk a lot. It's been a good platform for me to practice and enjoy the game without too much pressure.

They have likely saved me a lot of $$ by adopting the 6/5 blackjack.....they lose with that as i refuse to play that game.  So i end up giving them zero and most of the time not playing is the surest way to be a winner.

Despite what a lot of people want you to believe you are not mathmatically likely to win and people who play 6/5 are even less likely not to win over time.

Of course casinos love it when people are "gaming" and not gambling so it's just for fun...they like it even more when many people don't know or use the most basic strategy at the tables.  No offense to those as it is their money to spend as they want whether it is drinking or eating or gaming.

Always remember....a guy in reno once told me.....the longer you play the more likely you will lose...it's simple math.

beware the 6/5 pay blackjack tables unless u like donating even more $$ to the house...3/2 pay tables are usually only for higher min bets...

I haven't checked, but I suspect that taking even money may be better in the long run than 6:5.  I consider a $6 minimum table a $10 minimum table because the extra $1 20 bonus spot is a very poor bet.

i think people who play 6 /5 bj tables are more likely to be of the 2 week millionaire types who claim they only do "gaming" for fun....maybe true but i think most would agree it is a lot more fun if you win...casinos like getting an extra  edge over what seems a minor idea of dealing 6 to 5 instead of 3 to 2....i wonder how many people even notice.  I understand they are now also adding a 3rd zero to roulette which already has horrible odds...casinos do like to win and apparently a lot of people don't much care if they lose by making bad odds even worse.

There are a lot of factors that determine the final expected return, but in general, the house increases their edge by roughly 400% when dealing the 6:5 variant. In the 3:2 blackjack game, the house edge, for player playing perfect basic strategy, is in the ~0.5% range.  That means for every $100 wagered, they take in, on average, $0.50.

With 6:5 blackjack, that edge shoots up to almost 2%! So now you can expect to contribute upwards of $2 per $100 wagered to the house coffers.

Card counting in BJ is easier than you think. If you're decent at mental math, there are algorithms that increase the odds in your favor based on what cards you have seen. If two players work together it's very doable. I've proposed this to DH as a retirement funding strategy as we are both excellent at mental math, but he's afraid we'd end up "falling" overboard 🤣

It is not feaseable to count cards from a shoe or where there is automatic shuffling machines . Card counting is only done if the dealer was to deal to the bottom of a deck & that is never done any longer in casinos . What they do in LV i on double decks is deal half way & reshuffle which keeps the odds in favor of the house . When they dealt to the bottom I counted positive & negative cards ,The positive cards are face cards & the negative cards are numbered cards  ,when thete are more positive cards in the deck I raised my bets .I always won . I traveled on business in Las Vegas for 30 years mid 60s to mid 90s .

The 2 best games for odds are craps & backerat  .The rest of the games today are for pardon the pun suckers   .If one is a very smart poker player ,that is also  a good game but one needs to know both pot & card odds to play well
