Changing cabins within our group.

Recommended Posts

We are doing a family cruise that includes myself and my wife along with our daughter, her husband and their three teenage kids.  We have three cabins booked. OV Balcony's and an Inside across the hall.  We have booked my wife and I in separate cabins to maximize our Diamond balcony discount.  I know that Royal and the cabin steward doesn't care who sleeps where and will give us multiple keys for multiple rooms.  However, if we go to GS upon boarding, instead of getting multiple keys can they just move my wife out of the cabin she is listed in to my cabin and move my cabin mate to the cabin she is vacating.  This way no one has multiple keys and onboard spending is divided into the right family groups.

Easy to handle on board spending.  Each passenger can be attached to any CC.  It doesn’t matter who is in which stateroom.  My son, daughter and nephew are in 1 cabin.  Son & daughter are on my CC, nephew is on his father’s in a different cabin.

Someone will have to have 2 keys. GS will not move cabin assignment.

That was what I thought but wanted to check...  We arranged the cabin assignments so that DW and DD would have the double keys should that be the only option.  They are far less likely to lose the keys than myself or my son in law.  LOL.

One thing to keep in mind is that only those booked in the GS will get the perks.

Just what I was thinking. Your wife would not be able to accompany you to the suite lounge, etc.

Not booked in GS, 2 OV Balconies and an inside.  OP was referring to Guest Services.

My experience has been both.  Dome ships have done this. Others would only issue extra keys.

When they won't move us what we do is take the extra card and put it in the light switch of the room we have access to and then just open test door. Grab the key to open thf room we want it to ND then put it back.  A magnet to stick it to the back of the door also works for shops that you don't have to leave a card in to keep power on .  This way no one has to carry 2 cards

In our experience, this is not true. We have done this multiple times. We usually cruise with friends of ours who are not Diamond yet. We book my wife and I in separate cabins and book one of them with us. Once on the ship we go to Guest Services and explain who will be in which cabin and how their on board expenses will get paid. Guest Services makes new cards and assigns the proper expense accounts. So, my recommendation is, go to Guest Services, expalin to them (nicely) what is going on and ask them to issue new cards.

We actually did this at check-in at the pier when we did our Alaska cruise several years ago.

We just did this two weeks ago on Liberty of the Seas. I had a comped room from the casino and booked it for myself and my friend. My husband also had a comped cabin, so we booked him in it with her husband. When we got onboard we went to Guest Services and they switched us around and gave us new Seapass cards. I was very pleased, no hassle!

So I'm likely to have a similar situation. Myself and a friend in cabin 1, my wife and friend in cabin 2. Obviously myself and wife will share a cabin and then friend 1 and 2. I just need to go to gs and ask them to make new room key for my wife so she can get into my room and friend 1 a new room key to access their room? Then each would have their sea pass card to charge stuff and a basic room key, or am I not understanding correctly?

GS was great. We all went together to GS and they actually changed our room so that my husband and I were in the same room and gave us an updated Seapass that showed us in the same room. I do not know if all ships will do this but it was great service.

So ,let me get this straight ... go to guest services , explain to them that you manipulated the system to book in a way that got you extra discounts and benefits , and now you want keys redone for the way you are Really gonna use your rooms .... And they are OK with this ?

They are totally okay with this on the ship.  They don't care at all.

Yes, they are okay with it. I have heard that when booking, some RCI customer service reps actually suggest booking this way to share the balcony discount.

This is interesting . And more interesting to me is that I seem to be the only one that finds  this incredibly strange . I've always found GS to feel very much like they are towing the company line . This seems the opposite. Nice to know

Cheers
