The slashproof handbags are great. Just gives you that extra peace of mind. And you can clip them around your chair. Travelan or Pacsafe are good.

Not stolen but had to tell funny story about hubby losing his jumper.

Got on the ship after visiting Tauranga in New Zealand and noticed jumper was gone.

We were returning on another cruise 3 months later. We went to the shop where we did the tour but no luck. It was his favourite jumper (sweater for US folk).

We went to the Op shop ( thrift shop) for a look and there it was on the rack. LOL. Someone obviously found it and took it there. We told them the story and they gave it to us for half price. HAHA!

That is a funny story  I tell everyone you can buy best quality at Op Shops.

I couldn't relax with a handbag clipped around my chair.  I wear a shoulder bag with bag in front.  At least I'd see it go.

A friend on an organized tour of France was warned of scams in Paris, but advised Lyon was OK.  As their small group crossed the road, she saw a person on a bike take a handbag off one of their party!!!

You just can't relax in any of these European places with thousands of gullible visitors!!

They couldn't take the slashproof ones. They can't cut the straps or open them or get them of the chair. But I would still not have it on the back of the chair.

So many scams.I read up on the scams when going to a new destination. Have seen a few in my travels. Hubby had his gold chain ripped from his neck. We don't wear good jewellery now.

Lots of scammers targeting groups as they can blend in without people noticing.

You see scams in action in Paris just walking around.  When walking along the Seine River, keep an eye out for steps which lead down to the river. The scammer looks alone at the top but he has support waiting on the stairs.  When I spotted this. I would try to warn walkers coming towards me, with no French, but sign language.  When they crossed the road away from the river I knew I had saved another couple wearing expensive jewellery.
Sometimes you have to laugh. A small overweight little boy eating came out of the stairs seeking money, with his mother hidden in stairwell. Another time a mother and daughter were sitting eating their lunch when a young girl with a pony tail tried gold ring trick in front of me.  I told the mother NO!!  I’m trying to remember what the young girl said to me as

she walked away.  She was no lady!!

Moral of story wear NOTHING of value and

DONT STOP!!  Keep walking. I went to theatre at night on my own in Paris.

I took my lessons from movie where they teach old ladies in NY to walk fast!!

I don't wear any jewellery as scammers might think the jewellery is good jewellery.  Did your husband get a shock when his gold chair was ripped from his neck.

Our host in Paris had to use soap to get my friend's solid gold bracelet off.  She had never taken it off!

My son just buys all plain black socks and then doesnt bother putting them in pairs, they all go loose in the drawer and just grabs any 2.

He figures that way they all look the same , the glimpse you see of them when someone is wearing long pants.

MrAF has quite a few pairs of Kathmandu socks - they have L and R marked.

I am very big on being low key in any port. Boring clothes, no designer label sunnies or shoes, no watch, no jewellery, a bit of cash and a credit card in a fob pocket.

My camera has always been a sticking point though, and I can only help by using a cheap generic backpack instead of stuff with Canon logos all over it. So far, so good, we have been pretty lucky and have just been followed a couple of times. That in itself is enough to stand your neck hairs up proud.

Smart idea to dress down.  I know what you mean.  I stopped carrying my SLR Camera.  We walked very fast and very close to a couple in front of us walking along 8th Avenue in Manhattan.  When we got to a car with no tires and a Police car did a screeching Ui in front of us, with occupants hands up on the wall,  we wondered if we would make it to the Bus Station.  The couple in front turned around and were relieved to see we weren't following them, just safety in numbers.  Much relieved laughter as they escorted us to our hotel.

Yes - the socks are clearly marked L and R. They are hiking socks (quarter height) and there are definite differences in the left and the right ones with the way they are made.

Ok - interesting.

I guess all my socks are supermarket specials, not specific purpose ones like hiking socks

Ether that or I never noticed they were on wrong foot 😆

Yes if square shaped cheapie socks they can go on other foot.  I bought beautiful hand knitted socks at Maclean Craft Shop en

route To Canberra.  They are shaped with heal.

Yes. A local saw it happen and chased the guy. Got the chain back luckily but the guy got away. He doesn't wear it when travelling now. I just wear a silver ring and bring a few cheap costume necklaces.

A local on the train saved the man helping my friend on train by yelling loudly.

I'm with you on that, non label clothes, definitely no jewellery, basic hat, and non descript backpack.

Keep my SLR in the pack with my drink bottle and plastic rain coat.

Wear the pack with one strap only over shoulder and pack under my arm, only take camera out for photos, then straight back in.

Carry a fake wallet in my back pocket with old defaced cc and $5 in it.

I also make it a practice to continually casually scan the people around me, while enjoying the scenery.

I must be good at the low profile thing because so far, not one's tried to steal anything from me.😏

I have several pairs of Aldi motorcycle socks that are marked L & R.  The weave is thicker in critical areas -  toes, heels, shins and ankles.
