Day trip Civitavecchia to Rome - train

Hi, were on the Celebrity Edge on Jul 22.  We plan to take the train from Civitavecchia to Rome.  The ship docks at 7 am.  What's the soonest we'll be able to exit the ship.  We're in a Concierge Class cabin, if that makes a difference.  Are the taxis readily available to take us to the train station?  Would it be realistic to plan to board the 7:58 am train?  Thanks!

We are booked on the same cruise.  We are also on the July 29th cruise.  We are showing that Edge docks at 5:00 AM.  So, you can probably make the 7:58 AM train.  😊

630am is when the ship is SCHEDULED to begin letting self-carry off

Docking and when you're allowed off are two different things as the terminal needs to be fully staffed

Hi.  We're not disembarking at Civitavecchia.  This is a stop in our itinerary and Celebrity says were in port from 7 to 7.  We continue on and disembark in Barcelona later in the week.  Hopefully we'll be able to get off shortly after 7.

We did this a few years ago and you need to be aware there can be train strikes, please have a back up plan

Good thought.  Hopefully no strike or at least it won't occur without a few days notice.  We could take the Celebrity on your own in Rome excursion.  Im assuming they would most likely switch to a bus vs the bus/train and only spend 5 hours hours there.  Has anyone done this excursion.

You should be able to disembark shortly after docking in Civitavecchia per past experience.

I generally allow myself about 45 minutes to get from the ship to the train station in Civi, but with the new shuttles that go direct to the train station (if you can get one), it probably would be enough to allow 30 minutes.

Yikes.  I just realized we're on the July 15 cruise.  Lol.  Too many trips planned this year.

A few years ago (pre Covid) we were able to leave the ship, get the free shuttle to the port gate (this was before there was a paid shuttle directly to the train station), walk from the port gate shuttle stop to the train station, buy our tickets and get what was then the 8.01am train to Rome. You should be able to make the 7.58am train.

The time you actually set foot on the dock is influenced by many things.  whether you dock on time, whether the 'authorities' are there to clear you, whether there's a security issue, the size of the ship etc.  Ship's shore ex pax usually get off first,   Post again with your details and others who have done your cruise will have some good advice.
