Just rescheduled to Amsterdam on Wednesday

Next Wednesday? How long are you in port? What do you enjoy doing? Are you wanting to do something on your own? How are the kids? The Normandy coast to Amsterdam is quite a change!

Lots of options. If you're talking next week, the Anne Frank house is probably out, which is unfortunate. I have a couple of ideas, but I'd like more information...

And I'm sure others will have ideas as well!

The Anne Frank House. Your kids are the right age to appreciate it. You might need to book ahead. Not sure if it’s past tulip season, but Keukenhof Gardens is a short excursion from Amsterdam.

Sorry. You are very unlikely to get a ticket to Anne Frank House at this late date. And Keukenhof is closed for the season.

Literally we are going next Wednesday...as in 3 days.  Last minute re route because of strikes in France.

In case your kids are interested, visit Artis Zoo. https://www.artis.nl/en/

Also a canal boat trip is of course also nice. Some tours leave in front of Centraal Station, walking distance from the cruise terminal. https://www.lovers.nl/en/

Nemo science museum, also not far from the cruise terminal. https://www.nemosciencemuseum.nl/en/

A simple ride on one of the tram (streetcars) is always nice for kids. https://www.gvb.nl/en

Dutch pancakes while sailing in this ship: https://amsterdam.pannenkoekenboot.nl/en/

Madame Tussaud museum has interesting wax famous persons: https://www.madametussauds.com/amsterdam/en/

If open the royal Palace on Dam square (almost a neighbour to madame Tussaud!). https://www.paleisamsterdam.nl/en/

So plenty to choose from. Enjpy!

Ine and Cotswold Eagle have given some great advice. The canal boat rides are definitely worth it! If you're in port long enough and want to do something different, the other thing that comes to mind is a trip to Zaanse Schans. It's a location that can expand to fill your available time, unfortunately, but along with the windmills, there is essentially a living history museum that might interest the kids (and the adults; we loved it!). I'll defer to Ine on how much time it would take; we spent most of a day. There might be an excursion from the ship, or you can take the bus from Centraal pretty easily.

Indeed I forgot to mention Zaanse Schans. You can take the bus as mentioned but also very easy might be the train to station Zaanse Schans, it is just a 20 minute ride. I think it is the nicest way to walk (about 10 minutes) from the station to Zaanse Schans a you will see the windmills situated along river Zaan. Trainschedule: https://www.ns.nl/en

More about Zaanse Schans: https://www.dezaanseschans.nl/en/

Entrance is free, you only pay a fee if you want to enter a windmill.

We are off to Zaanse Schans during our upcoming cruise in May 2024.

Any experience with purchasing tickets in advance or its one of the entrances, you can purchase day of?

Zaanse schans still has no entrance fee. There is a plan however to soon start with an entrance fee. You only pay for the windmills you want to see inside and the museum. You can freely walk around, taste cheese, see how klompen (clogs) are and were being made, visit an old grocery store, bakery and more. Please be aware it is not a real museum, people are living in the old houses, so give them their privacy. More on the website: https://www.dezaanseschans.nl/en/
