Emerald Sky - accident on the Rhine

The Emerald Sky collided with a tanker on the Rhine on Thursday evening. Noone was injured but the authorities have prohibited sailing. The river cruise ship is docked in Karlsruhe harbour and the passengers have already been transported by coach to Strasbourg.

Oh wow looking at where the damage is I hope the kitchen crew are okay. Please hope it’s not the Emerald’s crews fault and all are okay, what a shake up.

Due to go on it on 16th July. Have a feeling that might not happen!!!

We’re waiting to hear how Emerald is going to get the hull damage repaired. Is the July 2 Amsterdam departure going to be cancelled or the trip modified?

Wondering what is happening - July 2, sounds as if it may be tight, doesn't it? The Emerald Sky stopped signalling South of Karlsruhe three days ago (23rd). That was Friday, her destination was given as Basel, so may have arrived there by now.

 

No follow up news in German to be found.

First hand information on the Emerald Sky -- I was on the ship when that happened. It was NOT our captains fault. It was around midnight and he could see the freighter coming, he moved as far as he could, signaled and called - but the freighter hit us and never stopped! That ship's captain was later stopped and arrested. 
Emerald did an amazing job, no one was hurt - I never even got out of bed 😉
They continued the cruise and we just bused a bit farther for the last two stops. 
All was well.

Unfortunate, but could have been a lot worse.

 

Glad at least it didnt really ruin the cruise, even if it made for some longer days.

Glad to hear they were able to bus you for the remaining 2 days...and that it was the last 2 days, not the first. Also great to hear that Emerald handled this so well. I know they all prepare for emergencies, but preparing and how they actually handle things are sometimes 2 very different stories.
