Now you’re being condescending, judgmental and chauvinistic.
Repeating for emphasis: Bottom line - be comfortable and don't let the fashion police intimidate you.

On MSC Virtuosa, I asked day one if there would be any strict dress code (Yacht Club).  My butler informed they literally did not care as long as I wore shoes.  My take is on vacation is I don't dress up; my daily attire was shorts/pants and a t-shirt pretty much at all times.  Not sure if this is the same with MDR but in YC they literally couldn't care less.  Not that it would matter, but the Casino also did not care.

Well resort casual in some European cultures is topless for women and a speedo for men so is this what you suggest?

Hey Pizaz's butler said as long as you wear shoes... even Europeans streak at Football (Soccer) games not just Americans at Baseball games. Streaking in the Yacht Club is it a thing?

I have no idea.  I'm not volunteering.  Don't want to scare anyone.  😁

On another much more formal line I was able to get away with being naked underneath my dinner suit.

Just got off the Sinfonia from a Mediterranean cruise this past Thursday. Dress at dinner is very casual. I wore jean shorts and nice clean solid color t-shirts or polo shirts or t-shirts  every night except formal night when I wore long jeans a a polo shirt without issue. I saw less people dressed up super fancy in Europe then I have in America and I didn't see a single guest in a tux in the dining room when we went.

Yup!... MSC trends to less formal, generally, than the more US established mainline cruise lines on this gala night tradition. Back in the day, when lady Allure of the Seas came first time to Europe, at my sailing, I felt quite nude in the Captain's reception wearing a dark suit and tie!... They dressed up to the nines!... It is getting my impression though that formality is being abandoned altogether wherever else on these post pandemic days. Sooner rather than later, captain's reception will be held as just another pool activity, obviously receiving you as you're on a pool deck everyday!... Times are changing!...

I sailed on the Carnival Breeze out of Galveston last Summer and there were lots of people dressed in suits and tuxedos as well people in nice jeans and polos. On my first cruise in 2004 on the original Carnival Celebration they wouldn’t let you in in jeans or shorts on the formal night.

so from what I read NO there not formal just smart casual !

Well, actually it is neither.

MSC calls them "gala nights".

In my experience with MSC in Europe that is indeed "formal = tuxedo" for a minority, but far above smart casual for the vast majority (suits resp. dresses both long gowns and cocktail dresses).

It's named Elegant Night, where the suggested dress code is formal. But it's obviously not Cunard et al so it's not compulsory to wear a tux or make an effort.
