Hotels.com says

Doubletree by Hilton New York Times Square South

3.5-star hotel with restaurant, near Madison Square Garden

is 7.43 miles from the port on Manhattan Island.

I do not recommend a Manhattan hotel if sailing from NJ unless they want to sightsee in the city.

The Doubletree at Newark Penn Station is the closest Doubletree to Cape Liberty.  But is you are flying into to Newark Airport then it probably makes more sense to stay at the Doubletree at Newark Airport.

Doubletree at EWR is in an isolated area with 1 restaurant in walking distance. Doubletree NPS has a free shuttle and is close(not walking distance) to Newark's Ironbound section known for its Portuguese, Brazilian & Spanish cuisine.

Thanks, I am happy to see more people (people that know the area) answering the query. I was just flexing my mad Google skills!
