buchhalm Posted September 5, 2023 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2023 Hi all. The official City of Sydney website for this year's fireworks and other festivities has gone live. https://www.sydneynewyearseve.com Apart from that, NSW residents can from today enter a ballot for tickets for prime viewing points of the fireworks. https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/news-and-events/nye-on-the-cahill-expressway-2023
Rare aussielozzie18 Posted September 5, 2023 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2023 (edited) Thank you. Entered the ballot last year with no luck. We spent NYE at the Opera House instead which was superb. Have entered for Cahills Expressway again courtesy of your link. Thanks Edited September 5, 2023 by aussielozzie18
Rare MicCanberra Posted September 5, 2023 #3 Share Posted September 5, 2023 Accommodation is too expensive at NYE, better off watching it on the Television

Sometimes it has its perks to work in hospitality. Or have a mate that does... 😉 2

Tounces105 Posted September 6, 2023 #6 Share Posted September 6, 2023 How do they check that you are an NSW resident in the Cahill Expressway lottery? Can someone who is not a resident apply? Will they check IDs?

When/if you win tickets, they will probably ask for some sort of prove.
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted September 6, 2023 #8 Share Posted September 6, 2023 A couple of year pre-Covid we were invited to the RANSA New Year's Eve party. $5 entry fee, cheap drinks from the bar, and BYO food. It was great but it cost us a fair bit in taxis.

Rare aussielozzie18 Posted September 6, 2023 #11 Share Posted September 6, 2023 Royal Sydney Botanical Gardens has four FREE sites this year for NYE. Usually they are ticketed and expensive. According to their website, you can start queuing at 7am, gates open at 11am and site will close as soon as they reach capacity. Once you are in, you are in. If you need to leave, you can’t go back in. Last year the queue down Macquarie Street went back to the State Library. I bet this year since it’s free, the queue will go back to St Mary’s Cathedral…

If I get tickets, I’ll let you know, what further proof is needed. Edited September 6, 2023 by aussielozzie18

Rare aussielozzie18 Posted October 10, 2023 #16 Share Posted October 10, 2023 Ballot just closed for the free Cahill Expressway NYE event. Randomly selected Winners to be notified shortly. If you don’t redeem them within 2 weeks of being notified, the tickets go back in the draw.
Rare MicCanberra Posted October 10, 2023 #17 Share Posted October 10, 2023 We will be at Uluru for NYE now, so don't worry about any tickets for me.
Rare lyndarra Posted October 10, 2023 #18 Share Posted October 10, 2023 A few years back wife and I did a NYE Sydney Harbour cruise. The cruise boat was great with drinks, food and live band. But the fireworks show was a big let down. Watercraft had to moor, anchor or motor about, too far away. The sound of the fireworks exploding and music were way out of sync with the visual. I just watch it on TV - sometimes.
