dbrown84 Posted October 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2023 Hello. do Carnival have cigar lounges on their ships? Also, do they allow cigar smoking in the casino? I see on the website that smoking is allowed in the casino if seated and playing, but it doesn't mention what you're allowed to smoke. I'm a NCL cruiser, where cigars are not allowed in the casino, but NCL do have cigar lounges on their ships, as well as allowing you to smoke cigars outside on the top deck

Rare 1025cruise Posted October 10, 2023 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2023 No cigar lounges. Cigar smoking outside only.
Joebucks Posted October 10, 2023 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2023 One of my biggest complaints with the Carnival brand is the lack of cigar lounge. It honestly blows my mind that they don't do this. 2

Rare 1025cruise Posted October 10, 2023 #7 Share Posted October 10, 2023 They used to have cigar lounges. Unfortunately, they went the way of the dodo.

Rare sid_9169 Posted October 10, 2023 #9 Share Posted October 10, 2023 It's nearly impossible to enjoy a cigar in the lounge on Norwegian, as it's always packed with cigarette smokers...
hard_eight Posted October 10, 2023 #10 Share Posted October 10, 2023 I miss the cigar lounges in the back of the Fantasy class. Excel class is big enough, could have put one somewhere near the smoking side of the casino. God knows we have to smell those horrible cigarettes...they can get some gnarly 'gar smoke😗💨 1
StephPS79 Posted October 10, 2023 #11 Share Posted October 10, 2023 (edited) The Ivory Club Lounge on the Glory used to be a cigar lounge, but as others have said, they have done away with that. It's actually quite sad, I am not a smoker, but that is a beautiful venue/lounge that now sits largely empty and unused. A few nights they had karaoke in there, and even then 10 people max showed up. They are now a lot harder on the cigarette smokers in the lounges now. Of course, some servers will turn a blinds eye, but I find that most will kick out the cigarette smokers

There's generally lots of space around there. I'm surprised that in the smoking area, they don't capitalize on an opportunity to sell more smoking related items. Lighters, cigars, cigarettes, etc. Maybe even some Carnival branded gear. Imagine if they had whiskey and cigar pairings? Sign me up! But I think I got my question answered as to why they don't do this anymore. I can see how hoards of cigarette smoker could kill this vibe. Idk, I still think it's worth a try.
mz-s Posted October 11, 2023 #14 Share Posted October 11, 2023 Carnival is taking lounges out of their ships for more staterooms and bars and casino space, fat chance they'll ever consider putting lounges back in again.

I don't think there are dedicated karaoke bars - they are multipurpose venues. As I mentioned, the old cigar lounge on the Glory is now basically just used for karaoke, and yes, no one shows up for that and that beautiful room sits pretty much empty most of the time. One plus I guess, we did wait there a few nights while waiting for our MDR check-in table, and there was a whole empty bar with bored bartenders just waiting to make you a drink.

As you mention, it is a waiting area for diners, most of whom don't want to reek of smoke or inhale any waiting for tasty food. But it is also used for a few other activities. While I am not advocating a cigar lounge - I don't smoke - I do think it is a shame that such a beautiful venue is underutilized, with the exception of myself and 4 other dining companions waiting for dinner (as mentioned the room was otherwise empty), and a few (FEW) other people having the time of their lives singing karaoke on nights 3 and 5. While not advocating, to be quite honest, karaoke could be held in one of the countless other locations on the ship, and sure, why not give the cigar smokers a place to smoke their cigars, secluded from all the people who get so offended by it. At least the room would seem some action.

With the exception of the casino, smoking has been eliminated indoors. The lounge has had other uses in the past including live entertainment and yes, even smoking, and is underutilized. The proximity to fine dining eliminates using for smoking. Other Conquest class ships utilize the lounge better, sometimes offering comedy. Perhaps when Liberty replaces Glory there will be other offerings. Or maybe Freedom will provide a clue.

UtahCruiser1230 Posted October 16, 2023 #24 Share Posted October 16, 2023 I saw at least two people with cigars in hand wander onto the havana area looking for a place to smoke them today. While watching the dive in movie (M3GAN) tonight it was apparent some folks found a place to smoke left handed cigars.

Trends in Cigar Consumption and Smoking Prevalence
Over this 6-year interval, cigar smoking increased among both males and females (Table 4). The rates of cigar smoking increased among males of each race, but the increase was greatest among white and black males. Current cigar smoking prevalence remained unchanged among males with less than a high school education.
Regardless. The world is not always about charts and graphs. If luxury cars took a downward sales trend in X time period, it does not mean that it's no longer a viable market. As with anything, you size your offering in relationship to its demand. Cigars are associated with a "premium" lifestyle of sorts. I find it hard to believe that Carnival couldn't make a few hundred or even few thousand per cruise on some whiskey and cigar pairings. Or even at the minimum, have an outdoor bar near the smoking area with a humidor and cigars for sale.
