Rare mking8288 Posted October 16, 2023 #204 Share Posted October 16, 2023 Uber kicking up surge pricing from MCT going to airports, nearly doubled vs. coming the airport ... another reason that we stick with Carmel (and/or) Dial 7. More than 1/3 higher than typical taxi fare, metered to LGA even if traffic is heavy. Taxi fare to JFK is a flat rate and would beat Uber's basic rate by $25 to $35. Wait another hour and those prices should drop, as long as you aren't rushing to catch a flight.
Rare BirdTravels Posted October 16, 2023 Author #205 Share Posted October 16, 2023 The transfers to JFK were $25. That’s $50 versus $100

And be forewarned that if you’re not traveling at posted speed limits (which you would never do in Manhattan) the ride shares will slap you with a congestion surcharge. So that XL ride to LGA will be a lot more than $131.

UKstages Posted October 16, 2023 #209 Share Posted October 16, 2023 regarding transport… coming into the terminal this morning (on foot), I thought the unlicensed drivers (hustlers looking to pick up fares) were particularly aggressive. especially since they kept asking unsuspecting rubes if they were looking for a “yellow cab.”

We saw this yesterday too when we walked over to see the Escape. Very aggressive.

The Bird advised the older couple in front of me that they were not Uber and they were hustling rides.

Rare BirdTravels Posted October 16, 2023 Author #215 Share Posted October 16, 2023 (edited) FWIW The Birds trip from MCT to LGA took 40 min this morning. Stop and go traffic (more stop than go). We were escorted off the ship (around the steerage lines) as soon as gold tags were called. Today, the ship’s systems were not integrated with CBP, so we had to do a facial recognition check at immigrations in the terminal. You could almost keep walking, pausing at the scanner to “enter the country”. Edited October 16, 2023 by BirdTravels

"injury and "indisposition" are often thinly veiled code words for covid, that's the moist likely reason for show cancellations these days. It seemed excessive to cancel a whole show for a week for an “injury” . I immediately wondered if it was a code word. Then while following these boards, I have seen it cancelled again last summer with this excuse. Now, same excuse. Seems like a lot of “ injuries” plague this cast! So a parent of one of the cast members was onboard and very disappointed not to see the full productions. But, did confirm that it was an injury and not some "code word" conspiracy theory.
Rare BirdTravels Posted October 16, 2023 Author #219 Share Posted October 16, 2023 We’ll call this a wrap. Please ask if you have any additional questions about the beautiful Norwegian Joy. The trip did have some misses. A tropical front crossing Bermuda causing the cancellation of one day in port. The cancellation of both production shows due to injuries. The North Atlantic acting up all the way home keeping everyone inside. But The Bird had a blast. Thanking for following along. 6

Always Cruising Posted October 16, 2023 #222 Share Posted October 16, 2023 Wish I had known you were onboard the Oct 11 Joy - I was, too, and somehow missed this thread. Would have loved to meet you and thank you for all of the info I've gleaned over the years. Did you see the comedians? I loved them both. Were you at the Sustainable Cocktail presentation? There were only 5 of us. I was late to Wines of the World, so only talked to a few people. Thanks again for your informative posts!

He will order a glass of wine at dinner (whatever I am drinking) so I have a second glass. In the Wines Around the World, how big is the pour per wine? While he would never “spit”, he just wouldn’t drink much. How is this viewed? We are just now Platinum? Insights, please.

Maybe half the guests drink all of it, and other half dumps the wine and rinses the glass. You'll be fine doing whatever works out best for you.
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted October 17, 2023 #225 Share Posted October 17, 2023 Thank you for a job ( but never a steak ) well done ! We enjoyed every moment of your lovely photos and narrative . It's been a while since we've been to Bermuda ( on a Transatlantic on the Eclipse ) in 2015 . And you could read about it here if you would like . Two of our top stops in Bermuda Our next NCL cruise is the Star from the UK to Iceland in May where we hope to stay for 8 days . We would love any insight that you may have on this trip or the ship . Happy cruising from beneath the briny depths .
