Rare VernRDH Posted October 29, 2023 #1 Share Posted October 29, 2023 Was hoping someone could tell me what the gratuities are daily in YC? We are booked next October on Meraviglia in an Aurea balcony, thinking of moving up to YC. Just trying to get a fix on the price difference. My TA is not terribly helpful and I just wanted to know what the difference is between Aurea and YC for grats. Thank you!
Hydrotx Posted October 29, 2023 #2 Share Posted October 29, 2023 Doesn’t appear to be any difference in the daily rate.
Two Wheels Only Posted October 29, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 29, 2023 Bella through Yacht Club is the same daily service charge.
mushroom Posted October 29, 2023 #4 Share Posted October 29, 2023 Maybe not what you are asking, but we always budget for extra gratuities for our butler and junior butler. Also, the concierge if you are using their services. None of this is mandatory...but you might want to include it in your budget.
joeyancho Posted October 29, 2023 #5 Share Posted October 29, 2023 I have been in Yacth Club yet. I will be in December. Some one posted this a whole back.... Butler: $75 to $125 The range would cover probably 60% of the tipping Junior Butler: $40 to $60 cabin attendant (if not YC): $40 to 80, depending on service level restaurant wait staff: $70 to 100 for the crew, especially if you have the same set all that week. Sommelier: $20 to 60 Bartender: $1 or 2 per drink, especially outside of the YC,and $20 or so to any "favorite" or "regular bartender pool staff: Varies. If you ask the attendant to set up towels daily in your desired location, maybe $20-40. Pool waiter, $1 or 2 per round
Rare VernRDH Posted October 29, 2023 Author #6 Share Posted October 29, 2023 Thanks all for the info. Wasn't sure if grats were higher in YC, like suites on RC.

CarolnLarry Posted October 29, 2023 #8 Share Posted October 29, 2023 We were charged 14.59 per person per day for the yacht club in Jan. Same as reported above
oceans.calling Posted October 30, 2023 #9 Share Posted October 30, 2023 If booked before 12/12/22 DSC is $14.00 pp. If after 12/12/22 up to and including 10/1/23 it is $14.50. After 10/2/23 it was raised to $16.00. I printed out this info from the MSC website and showed it to concierge in YC who corrected the DSC from $16.00 back to the $14.00 charge. My next 2 cruises are also $14.00 but next two are $14.50 and I have printed the details and attached to each booking confirmation. There is no different price whether in YC or not. All DSC charges are the same.

Seems way over the top especially when MSC's guidelines say don't do it.

Always follow your own feelings on these matters, tipping is a competitive sport for some it seems 🙂 I'll be surprised if you don't want to tip a little extra to your Butler and assistant by the end of the cruise as they can make a real difference to your enjoyment with the little things they do, but MSC do make it clear that additional tipping is not expected.

Brighton Line Posted October 30, 2023 #13 Share Posted October 30, 2023 The "auto gratuities" are the same amount no matter the experience level. You can go to customer service and remove them hence they are not mandatory. People are known to tip extra in the Yacht Club and people have not tipped extra. It is up to you and what service you perceive is above and beyond what they collect as "gratuities" If I got pizza delivered to the cabin at 2 am every night, I might throw a little extra to the butler but that's me. Damm munchies!

Rare VernRDH Posted October 30, 2023 Author #15 Share Posted October 30, 2023 I finally talked to my TA. We are going to upgrade to YC. I was surprised that the gratuities are the same- guess I am too used to Royal charging higher gratuities for suites. Looking forward to reading and learning more about YC!

The difference in my cruise vacations before this were night and day. So, I show my appreciation to those responsible for making that happen.
Pizaz Posted October 31, 2023 #17 Share Posted October 31, 2023 Tip what you can afford. If you think the minimum auto-gratuities shows your appreciation level. Stick with that and no harm done. Most in YC tip for above and beyond service. Depending on sail length (5 - 14 days) it is quite normal to tip your Favorite bartender, Waiter/Junior Waiter, Butler/Assistant, Casino Host (always amazing to me!) $100 or equivalent each. BUT again always emphasis tip what you want based on your own culture / feelings regarding the act. Although you will have amazing service, I can promise that tipping early especially in the casino will vastly improve your experience.

Rare DisneyJen Posted October 31, 2023 #19 Share Posted October 31, 2023 I prepaid our hotel service charges (gratuities) yesterday while booking. The charge was $112 per person for 7 nights on the Meraviglia in YC.

I cannot recall ever tipping anyone in the casino other than the dealers or the waitstaff that brought me my drinks. Trying to remember if we ever interacted with the casino host and cannot recall a time when we have. Butler, assistant butler, Waiter, assistant waiter are people we interact with on a daily basis and normally tip based on service.
