Cashing a check at Guest Relations

Can you still cash one check up to $200 per cruise at Guest Relations?  We're taking several people on a cruise in a couple months & the question about check cashing came up, I know you use to be able to cash one check per account but that was before covid.

Not sure about that but there is an ATM available.

Not sure if you still can.  Back in 2018 you could. 
 

You could also transfer $200 to a slot machine then immediately cash out.    It would be charged to Credit Card if no OBC.   They may lock your account for further transfers unless you churn 50% through the slot.

I think there is also a 5% fee assessed by the casino when doing this type of cash advance.  The fee may be waived in some cases (suite guests, Zenith Captains Club, Some levels of Blue Chip and possibly if using OBC).

I've done it on 6 cruises and never been charged a fee.   On solstice you couldn't do it on the machine an had to go to the Cashier's Cage and say you wanted $300 from your card (or any amount in $20 increments.    For $300 they would give you 3  $100 slips -   I would just stick them all in a machine -  Cash out and have a $300 slip and then play a little and then cash out.     I am a Zenith but don't think it has to do with that because I did it for my SIL who was on her first cruise an never gambled in her life.   She also was not charged.

 

I have read about the 5% but never seen it actually applied.   Maybe someone that was charged it can advise.

We cashed a check at guest relations on our recent Solstice cruise. Maximum is $200.

Not usually, but good to have as a back up on a cruise ship (rather than risking a skimmer on the ATMs in some locations or paying the ATM fees).

Thanks to all replies - all great to know!

I am wondering if there was no 5% fee in the casino because the guest was Zenith.  We have 3 Elite plus but we are also taking people that have never been on a cruise.  For, now I think I will tell them about the check up to $200 & we can handle anything else as it comes up.

On our last cruise ( EDGE ) I turned $XX OBC into cash using that method-- no " service charge " was applied. 

FYI--- We are Elite--- a few more cruises to Elite +------ Probably will never get to Zenith +++

Well, a check gives your routing number and account number to everyone who handles it…so I guess either one is a risk..

 

I just travel with all the cash I might need…no wrong answers here I suppose..

I have cashed a check onboard.   Take one should I have an issue with ATM.  I have a no fee ATM card but sometime have an issue.
