Celebration! / Live! / Solo? Jan-14-21-2024 The Tribe Cruise!

Recommended Posts

For all you land lubbers stuck back home in America (or, even worse Canada) this week, I'm here to tell it's HOT down here in the DR... I caught some rays up at Serenity for awhile, and I was going to get in the hot tub, but it was already packed with people, and as you all know I'm not exactly a "people person"... I'm barely even a person most of the time...

Time to get in the shower now, and get ready to head in shore for a quick look around...

Alright Sid, stay calm and keep your eyes on the ball. We NEED to procure coffee on the first attempt this morning...

The ports for this sailing aren't exactly among my all time favorites. In Amber Cove I'll probably just be calling it a sea day, as I've never found anything great to do in the Dominican Republic.

In St Thomas I've considered taking the Red Hook ferry over to St John, but that'll all depend on my ability to drag myself out of bed early enough to make a decent day out of it. The more likely scenario will be taking the dollar bus over to Lindquist Beach or maybe Sapphire… I'd also like to find something good to eat there. I've got my eyes on a roti place in Charlotte Amalie, which I've never really explored, so that'll be a whole new experience for me.

In San Juan I'll probably walk the city streets for a little “gastro tourism”, and try to locate and consume some of the great local food and adult beverages…

You'll have to be sure to share your thoughts on the ROTI if you end up going there...  I'm a huge roti fan and you definitely piqued my interest here!   (maybe photos too?)

Love this! I can identify, Sid. I guess I'm basically a lurker who follows your "lives," but I really enjoy your writing style and how down-to-earth you are. I always feel like I'm right there with you.

We finally have a temperature in the positive numbers again (windchill still in the negatives).

Took a little walk over to the port area at Amber Cove... Only real goal was to find Jamman and Co, and maybe have a few drinks. Next thing you know I'm in the pool sucking down beers like I was a teenager...

But first I had to head through the duty free store, where they had "real Cuban cigars"...

They also had gobs of White Hennessy, but what have the guys at work done for me lately? If you guessed nothing, then give yourself fifty points... No Hennessy for them.

Did you have a chance to cruise to Cuba when it was allowed?  We had a fantastic time with a guide visiting cigar stores.  Great memories for DH.

@sid_9169..nothing wrong with suckin down beers like a teenager.....you are livin and enjoying your vacation....outside your comfort zone for sure, go for it, you will be a changed man!

Since joining the TRIBE I don't ever recall ever hearing you say about being so social or around others than at  As The Rug Turns.....this is wonderful, even if it doesn't feel wonderful!

See @Jamman54 knows how to get his money's worth from his vacation....ENJOY!

Hung out for awhile shooting the breeze and whatnot... I didn't plan on getting in the pool, but "when in Rome"... Pretty nice area there, and I went up to check out their cabana, complete with air conditioning...
