Hitting 15 drinks a day ?

Has anybody on here (or does anybody know of anybody) actually hit the max of 15 drinks a day on the HIA package ?

I know it can include non-alcoholic drinks, but assuming that you don’t “buy” drinks for friends, that’s almost one per typical waking hour.

Personally, there is no way I could :).

I've wondered the same thing.  I can't consume that much liquid in a day without spending my waking hours in the restroom. 😁

I was thinking about a thread regarding the drink limit. I hope we can get some discussion.

I drink double shots with a splash of Coke. So, we're talking 7 being the actual limit for me, correct? On a sea day, starting at 2-3 pm, I'd hit that limit by dinner. 🙃

So, my question would be what drinks are high alcohol content that only counts as one drink?

Yes, I do it routinely and with ease, especially on warm weather cruises around the pool all day.  Specialty coffees turn into a mimosa or two, which turn into a chilled chard or two, which lead to a cold G&T or two, break time, then a pre-dinner negroni at the Ocean Bar, wine with dinner (we dine slowly, so three glasses is not unusual), port or brandy with dessert, a few bottles of water and an occasional soda throughout the day, and voila... hit the 15 limit.  And no, I/we do not have a problem with alcohol... I'm/we're simply enjoying our holiday!

You could still get a single shot.

Depending on the size of the pour I may drink doubles of rye and water on the rocks.  But I doubt if I'd have more than 3 of those, plus maybe a glass of wine at lunch and/or dinner.  Even at that I'll be fighting falling asleep.  Maybe 2 lattes and some waters and I should be able to make it.

Oh yes! Last year on the Rotterdam there were a couple of folks from Texas who started their day with "morning" cocktails and continued all day long. On fellow normally started ordering doubles shortly after noon. The bar servers kept him advised of his free drink numbers but when that reached 15 he just told them to bill him. This was an 11 day cruise and I don't believe he ever got off the ship. When he wasn't in the casino he was at the Sea View pool, no he didn't smoke but his wife did. Two days before we got back to Ft Lauderdale he went down to the CR desk to check his account. When he came back he announced to all within hearing distance that his balance was $6000. YIKES

Good Grief! That's a lot of drinks

Let's see:

1 Latte in the morning

1 bottle of water mid morning

1 beer/wine with lunch

1 or 2 fruity drinks by the pool

1 bottle of water by the pool

1 or 2 pre-dinner martoonis / wine

2 wines with dinner

1 post dinner martooni

1 bottle of water to go before bed

--------

11 or 12 drinks on an average cruise day

There are days when I might have 2 beers with lunch an extra wine with dinner and/or an additional post dinner martooni, so could easily hit 15.  On port days I might grab 2-3 bottles of water to go if it's hot.  On cold weather/rainy days I might have another latte or two.  I don't drink much alcohol on the regular but do drink a a lot of coffee, tea and water daily.  On vacation I like to enjoy myself within my personal limits.  Each of us is different and I worry about me and not what others are doing.

Your post reminded me of years ago when HAL would provide you with a printed copy of your onboard account we happened upon a gentleman in an elevator who was quietly reading and turning page after page of his onboard account.  When the elevator finally stopped he looked up at us and sheepishly said, "looks like someone has been having a great time."  🙂

I think it is possible to reach the 15 drinks limit. We haven't so far. Of course there are those who definitely will and will pay the overage. We sort of keep track during the day and at the end of the day grab a couple cans of water, maybe some beer or cider we put them in our cabin fridge (which we have the steward empty) and stock our own HIA mini bar. For some the upgrade to the elite package is a no brainer, 15 Alcoholic drinks and unlimited non alcoholic drinks. We had the enhanced have it all for our next cruise but have decide to extend that voyage so we will lose those extra perks as we change that from a 14 day to a 43 day voyage. I don't think we will pay for the upgrade, it does not represent good value for us.

I know we have some members who regularly choose the Elite package because it is vital to there ongoing research into cruising.

I would add 2 mimosas in the morning, and a couple of cocktails or beers in the evening. Easy 15 in a day. However, if I drank all that in one day, I wouldn't be doing it again any time soon🥴

On a normal day, I would do about 6-7 drinks. More like a combination of alcoholic, occasional soda by the pool, and get usually get a bottle or two of water before going back to the room for the night.  There is no way I can get to 15 drinks a day, especially that I am not much of a drinker at home, so it is a bit of a stretch for me on the cruises.

I plan on bringing water bottle (Hydroflasks) and refilling at water stations, but I do like the water dispensed from those machines. Not everyone does.  So that allows me 3 more alcoholic drinks based on your orders 🙂

Here's another question that's probably been asked 100 times:

How easy is it / what's involved to get a few of my drinks charged to my wife? We have the EBP, so she'll maybe have 3 counted drinks a day.

On a K'dam B2B over NYE 2023 we alternated using one card (his/mine/his/mine) with no problem. I understand the barkeep prefers it because they only have one swipe (faster and easier on the carpal tunnel). So in your case, she just buys a few more rounds!

We got to know one bar's servers pretty well and by the second leg of the cruise, while they never mentioned our running total, they would be placing canned water on our table at the end of the night!
