UNUSED OBC

Hi - we will be sailing on the EDGE around New Zealand from Sydney and because we were slow off the mark booking possible excursions (we have booked everything else we need) we will probably have a lot of on board credit left over at the end of the cruise.  We know that it will be a case of "use it - or lose it" but I remember that it may be possible, by using an amount in the casino, then cashing in whats left on your account ?

Do you guys know of something like this - and how do you do it ?

Many thanks

That works on some ships but not all.  Meanwhile

Because this gets asked so often I've compiled a list of things to spend OBC on. One thing I know of now that you CAN'T buy with OBC is a deposit on a Future Cruise. You need a credit card for that.  Also, there may be some card game in the casino with a cash only buy-in.   And if they do a fundraiser, like selling t-shirts to “save the reefs” and the like, expect to need cash for that.  Otherwise, here you go:

*Acupuncture

*Airport transfers

*Alcove Rental (some ships)

*Apple products etc. and Ilo unge classes

*Art Auction Purchases

*Babysitting

*Barber Shop services

*Behind the Scenes Tours

*Beverages -- Alcoholic, carbonated soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas, bottled water — if not in your package, also beverages above your package limits

*Bingo and Deal or No Deal

*Bottles of wine

*Casino

*Chef’s Table

*Corkage charged if you bring your own bottles of wine to the MDR

*Duty free liquor and cigarettes

*Extra cost entrees and other items in Main Dining Room and specialty restaurants

*Extend Your Stay program

*Fitness classes

*Flowers

*Gelato

*Gift shop souvenirs, purses, watches, cosmetics, clothing, jewelry, etc.

*Gratuities, and extra gratuities

*Guests dining with you in Luminae (applies to Suite Passengers only)

*Guest entertainers' CD's and DVD's

*Hair and nail salon

*Hollywood hot glass experiences (some ships)

*Internet if not in your package, also Internet upcharges

*Laundry/pressing/drycleaning

*Liquor Tasting events

*Luggage Valet

*Martini Flights

*Medical Center purchases

*Mini bar

*Portrait photo sessions

*Pay-per-view movies

*Persian Gardens passes

*Personal Training Sessions

*Photos & cameras

*Room service fees

*Ryde spinning classes

*Shore Excursions

*Shuttle to town (some ports)

*Spa -- massages and treatments

*Specialty restaurants

*Teeth Whitening

*Telephone calls using ship's system

*Transfer to another passenger's account

*Voyage in Review DVD

*Wine and liquor tastings

*Zumba

They will always use non-refundable OBC first,  then refundable OBC, And if you run out of that then it goes on your credit card

OBN you're not getting back. Spend it. If you want a challenge, you can get chips at the casino and turn that into cash. You actually need to gamble them, though. If you're decent at blackjack, you can turn a couple hundred into actual chips to cash in. Or, have fun playing...

OBR, you get it back on your payment method. I just got back $200 OBC that I didn't use.

So - convert all the OBC into chips - gamble an amount - then cash in the remaining chips ?                 Is that what you do ?     Thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

I used my OBCs on the slots and converted the balance on the slot machine back to cash.  I believe that there is a $400 transfer limit at any one time.  It you want to repeat the process you need to gamble (not lose) at least 50% of the OBCs transferred.  The cashier has a card to help explain the process.

The chips you purchase with OBC are promotional chips and can not be cashed out for cash.  Any winnings you have from using the promotion chips you can cash out.

These are only for the table games - and on roulette you can't use them for even bets ( red/black, odds/evens etc).

Yes you can, we did just that in December and converted $300 obc into $280 cash.

Hope to do the same next month again with our $300 non-refundable obc.  No questions were asked when I placed $20 on red and $20 black for many spins and was lucky no '0' or '00'

Guess you got lucky - Silhouette refused the bets on our last 4 cruises. Hope your luck continues on your next cruise.

Quick update: just checked and the rules still state no contra bets with promotional chips on roulette, baccarat and craps.

If you have unused OBC you can gift it to a crew member. It will go directly to them personally on their paycheque (it will show as extra gratuities) and it won't go into the pool to be shared with anyone else.

Of course, this is over and above the auto gratuities that you have pre-paid (if you have prepaid them).

Simply go to Guest Relations and they will give you a form to fill out.  It is important to go to the crew member(s) and get the exact spelling of their name as it appears on their paycheque.  This part is important.

Go back to Guest Relations and they will look them up on their computer, show you a picture of the employee to make sure it is the right person and will put the employee's ID number on the form. The Guest Relations staff member will also sign the form.

You can select a dollar amount from your OBC - however much you want to give away.  You can do this for multiple crew members on the same form if you want to.

I have read similar to what you say but never had the it refused.

Last time I did it myself, previously I enlisted the wife to place bets with me, although it was probably obvious to the Dealer.  One thing I ensure is that table is always busy before I try my luck.

So I have $445 OBN, and $510 OBR from the TA. Will the OBR go back to the TA if not used? Or should I be able to cash it out in the casino or guest services?

I believe the refundable goes to the card that you have on file, or you can cash it out at guest services the last day..others chime in.
