Queen Mary 2 Atrium view cabins

Does anyone have an experience having sailed in an atrium view cabin - classed under inside. There does not seem to be any pictures or experiences in these. Would appreciate any information . Greetings and have a great day

It returns a number of pics on cruisedeckplans.com, Flickr.com and others. There's even supposed to be some on this site but I haven't found them yet.

I read a comment about keeping the blind closed as you are looking directly into a cabin on opposite side.

I have had these cabins a couple of times. The window lets in light but as stated above your view is only across to the other cabin across the way. The interior furnishings are the same as the other interior cabins. I recommend booking the deck 5 atrium view cabins, as the deck 6 cabins are under a galley area. I heard noise of pots and pans all night.

I had one from on a short 8 day hop once, didn't impress me, you needed to keep the blinds across as the cabin across the atrium was looking right in. The ocean view cabins are a much better deal for me,  I wouldn't take an atrium again.

Yes, I have that experience.

 

I was travelling solo on an East Bound Trans Atlantic and chose it for no other reason than I wanted to write about it on my blog. Stateroom 5114.....

 

 

It didn't last however. The following day I was upgraded to Britannia Club 12055....

😄 I believe they are standard. Due to my fast upgrade I didn't have the opportunity to take a decent photograph of the Atrium view - this was my earlier effort...

Especially if it were a Q3 on QM2, but I fear I totally lack friends in high places, so that point wouldn’t arise.

I had it happen on Orient Lines many years ago, and was offered it once on Celebrity, but turned it down as we were very happy where we were.

The only people we know in Cunard high places are some fellow passengers on decks eleven and twelve on QV.😀 We generally meet [or met, past tense at the moment] one or two folk we know [knew].

Good luck to those who do get free upgrades though. We'll stick with the booking system.

Ahoy there @57eric . 

 

I would guess a mid-voyage upgrade would be dependant on the length of the voyage and would be unusual on a 7 night trans Atlantic.

 

My OP did state 'the following day' though I had the notification on the evening of sailing (telephone message) from New York. Alas, as always,  I was out and about socialising at the sail-away and then in the various other entertainment venues once we had slipped from Brooklyn.

 

The following day I joined an interesting table in Britannia Club with one of the guest speakers, the British Athlete Derek Redmond. Needless to say we got on like a house on fire....

 

 

As @Bell Boy says at # 13, it's 'who you know' and my wife and I have been fortunate on multiple occasions to experience Cunard upgrades from Club to Princess and on one occasion, Princess to Queens Grill.

 

The most amazing upgrade though was not with Cunard but onboard a Viking ship when we were upgraded to their top grade 'Explorer' Suite....

 

 

That was thanks to us being the 'Top Viking Sailors' on that particular sailing.

I can't help with upgrades. mid cruise or pre boarding as we always book the cabin we want, but in our experience, being known as good clients helps as demonstrated by Solent Richard's Viking upgrade.

 

Like others, we don't know folk but seem to be known by those who count within the Cunard organisation which seems to carry  a bit of clout and being known as good eggs and being able to hold our end up is probably why when pre Covid we had a certain large table, the celebrity guest speakers who asked for a large table were sat with us.

I always had the vague impression, based slightly on my own experience and on some anecdotal evidence, that Cunard liked to upgrade newish passengers to get them hooked on dearer cabins. And who can blame them?

Many, many years ago, we were offered an upgrade [wasn't a freebie but it was a generous offer]  to a Q2.

I can confirm the hooking works. 😄

We had an atrium cabin many years ago and have not booked one since.  You could not see anything except in the cabin across from you.  You had to keep your blinds closed most of the time and depending what is going on they can also be noisy.  I would book an oceanview instead.

I would say it's a bit of that, and a bit of it being more likely that new customers will book one of the less expensive staterooms (such as the Atrium Views) - there's only one way to go from there. Plus it is my suspicion is that Inside bookings are deliberately overbooked to keep the advertised fare down. I've booked Inside several times but Cunard has never allowed me to stay in one, which kind of worked since I'm generally looking at balcony grades now.
