Instead of strawberries I would like something like this! Simple, probably less costly (excep maybe the caviar) and more variety than just chocolate 🍓.

This would not get eaten in our cabin.

More details.  Why not?

Some of us are quite content with plain and simple and/or have food allergies or restrictions. I wouldn't eat it either.

For the same reason people don’t eat the Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

I guess I can see why they go generic.  Ok…cookies it is.  I like them too.

I would eat the yummy looking spread and the chocolate covered strawberries. And just about anything else left in my cabin that didn't belong to the vegetable family.

I guess I’m like you…lol.  But I would eat the veggies too!

This reminds me of the bottle of sparkling wine that used to be a perk before the pandemic. For a period of time, they allowed cruisers to exchange it at a bar for a bottle of house wine. Seemed reasonable to me because I don't drink sparkling or white wine. Then they discontinued the swap. Bottles most likely stayed in the cabins, collected by the stewards and recycled to Latitude members on the next cruise.

Exactly!  And even before that, they’d leave a bottle of real wine in your room, and you got a bottle with EACH Latitudes specialty dinner. Later reduced to one. Then they replaced the wine in the room with the sparkling swill. Then they stopped letting you swap the swill for wine, then stopped the swill altogether.
Judging by what other people have said before, NCL can’t really win with the room treats. Some won’t eat the strawberries, some won’t eat the cookies, the canapés, etc. They can’t please everybody, that’s for sure.

I like the idea of having a preference page included in your profile. Some hotels do that. It would take some work to get started, but the savings in the form of less waste could be substantial.

I'd scarf that down! Minus the caviar. Of course there's going to be a mutiny in our room if the chocolate covered strawberries ever go away. I get one. Someone else eats the rest while I'm enjoying my one.

Alternatively, a small charcuterie board would be equally as welcome in our room as the quintuplet of canapes you posted!

Heads up! To all that do not like/allergic to the chocolate covered strawberries. Please send out an alert if we're on the same ship. We'll order a filet and lobster tail from the Haven menu in exchange for the chocolate covered strawberries!

On one of the other social media sites there is a huge thread today about the loss of cookies (and hash browns, and smoked salmon). Do you think NCL sits around in meetings and grades employees based on how many people complain about their decisions?  The "cookie cutter" needs to be demoted after this half baked idea.

  • 4 months later...

Is this really now the fact? Last year on our Alaska cruise on the Bliss, when I asked about cookies, I was told to just ask the attendants at the Ice Cream Parlor on the buffet. She asked me how much I want and I told her just 6 and she opened a locker just behind her and pull out 6, put them in a plate hand it to me. I asked why they don't display it anymore and she refused to tell me why.

Well, when I go to my next cruise in November, I will certainly try to ask and get some.

I'm not sure what the deal with the cookies is. On our June/July Prima sailing, they had plenty every day in the Studio Lounge.

So the ships do have them. They are on board. It's really weird to be guarding them so closely.

This is really funny... I am not much of a desert eater but I LOVE COOKIES>>>>any time of day or night.

Recently I've travelled on HAL, Cunard & MSC(4 cruises) and cookies were like gold- either not found at all or sparsely at select times & lounges...

FOR GOODNESS SAKE MAKE THE COOKIES...LOTS OF THEM!!!!!

never had a problem having  the butler bring cookies (although that's not a priority for me) and laudergayle, just tell the butler what you want as an afternoon snack, and he can  probably get it for you, although i dont think  you'd get the caviar

No, this is not a fact. This thread is over 6 months old and things change. On my Joy cruise in June, cookies were available every afternoon in the Observation Lounge. No need to ask, they were there on a tray which was replaced with another once it was empty.

The reason they have become scarce is waste. Take a walk around that lounge and you will see plates of half eaten cookies sitting at an empty table. People take more than they need and then just leave them. Not me, but some do! There is also a poster here that talks about throwing their cookies in the trash, for whatever reason. It makes sense to cut down on when/where they are available and also make people ask for them...better chance of them actually being eaten vs. having to be thrown away.

We need a federal maritime investigation about this secret cookie locker.

Off the Viva last week. Only cookies to be found were in the Observation Lounge during the afternoon.  Disappointing.  Our friend complained that there should be some type of sweets in buffet next to the tea and coffee in the buffet during the overnight hours. The person replied that they do not do so since there was no one to watch the food 24/7.  They did send him a tray of cookies that evening to his stateroom.

On the same cruise (also the most recent cruise I've taken).  I found cookies in the Observaation Lounge, the Casino, requested them in the restaurants and got them served to me (usually with ice cream), etc.

I found cookies in the Indulge Food court on the Prima, too.

Fact is, the whole story about cookies, in my estimation, was much ado about nothing.

Same with the "hash browns".  They replaced those frozen, reheated potato pucks with sliced potato wedges.  That was a trade up.

There are a whole slew of deserts in the Garden Cafe.  I don't think they're next to the drink machines, but they usually have their own section when the Garden Cafe is open.

The snacks are located on the far right side of the venue (when looking towards the food stations), but they remove all the snacks when they close up each night and not available until the next morning. [The hot (and cold) drinks are available on the left side and are available 24/7 (although the latest I probably visited there was 1 AM).  Yes, you can always go to The Local if you are really hungry in the middle of the night, but many people just want a quick snack with their coffee or tea and bring it back to their stateroom. [Note: my friend had also just gotten off a Disney cruise just prior to boarding the Viva, which does have the 24/7 cookies and snacks.]

See...this is where I just SMH.  Your friend wants the Garden Cafe to cater to his/her particular whim.

The Local is an alternative, as you point out.  Or, for the ultimate convenience, room service.  Or, gather up cookies during the day and store them in the cabin.

Disney?  Cookies in the buffet?  Yeah, let's keep the little kiddos sugared up 24/7 and overcharge for the privilege.

I will never ever agree with you on this one (it's ok - we agree on other things)! NCL had those breakfast potatoes AND hash browns in 2022 and early 2023. Then Dirty Harry decided no more oily hockey pucks for us! Just undercooked, under seasoned nasty arse cut up potatoes for breakfast. On the plus side, no breakfast potatoes for me! More bacon!

I suppose this is one of NCL's examples of helping decrease the waist line of passengers. See! It is for our "convenience." NCL just doesn't want us to have artery clogging hash browns and diabetic-inducing cookies!
