mfs2k Posted March 5 #1 Share Posted March 5 My wife and I are going on a 10 night Med cruise with 7 days in port. I have free drinks in the casino. For years we went on Carnival Caribbean cruises before beverage packages and we were always conscious of ordering drinks because we knew there would be a bill at the end showing us exactly how much we drank. Since then we discovered All inclusive land or sea vacations and we never had to think about paying for drinks. The cheers package will cost $60 per day (or night) so $1200-$1300. There is NO WAY we’re going to drink that much considering my free casino drinks, the ability to bring alcohol back on board on European cruises, and the exhaustion I expect in the evenings after strenuous days in Med ports. Yet my dear sweet wife INSISTS I buy the Cheers package for us. She says she doesn’t want me scrutinizing every drink and doesn’t care if it’s worth it or not. So, honest CC pals, I ask you… Do I spend the $1,200 willingly, knowing I’m throwing about half of it away, for my wife’s peace of mind, or do I continue to debate the point just because I think I’m right and I hope logic will prevail? PS. I think I answered my own question.

Pyrate13 Posted March 5 #3 Share Posted March 5 Is it really for her peace of mind? If it was my wife, it would be more for my peace of mind.😁
Rare sparks1093 Posted March 5 #4 Share Posted March 5 You can try promising her that you won't scrutinize every drink she orders and she has carte blanche to order as she will.
kdr69 Posted March 5 #5 Share Posted March 5 Maybe my math is off but if you have DOU in the Casino you can just buy your wife the cheers package once on board which would only be about 500 ish dollars and you can stick to your guns and just drink in the casino while she enjoys her drinks anywhere.

Not if they are staying in the same cabin. It's all or none on Carnival.

I only have to buy the package for her if I already have comp casino drinks? That would be great!!! Excellent compromise. Can someone confirm this please? ZoeyVictoria Posted March 5 #9 Share Posted March 5 Offer to purchase $500 Cruise Cash for her or buy her a $500 Carnival gift card. Then promise that it will be all hers to spend and you will not keep track of it.
Rare ninjacat123 Posted March 5 #10 Share Posted March 5 Last October DH and I cruised the Med for ten days on Carnival and didn't have Cheers, which we almost always book. The wine and liquor we could bring on board at each port was plenty for us. I think we ordered a round of drinks at Alchemy a couple times. With such a port intensive cruise, we found that we were eating and drinking off ship consistently so not missing the "challenge" of getting our money's worth by having a Cheers package. I hope you and your wife have as much fun as we did on our European cruise!!

You don't need to be 50 or older, just need a membership which is $12 a year, I think. I pay for everything Carnival with these gift cards!
Rare ninjacat123 Posted March 5 #12 Share Posted March 5 (edited) Just in case you are on the same itinerary, here is my review of our October Med cruise. You can jump to page 7 for our start in Italy if you wish. Edited March 5 by ninjacat123

Yes it is but he already has DOU so why would he have to buy Cheers again? Pretty sure this has been discussed many times. I know its been said that if you have the DOU everywhere offer for just yourself you can purchase Cheers for the other person in the cabin once onboard. Pretty sure ive seen it on here that it also applies to DOU in the casino. Just wait till your onboard and ask.

Plus so many ports your not drinking as much as your off the ship most days.

Rare 1025cruise Posted March 5 #16 Share Posted March 5 Do you have DOU or DOU Everywhere? If just DOU, then you would both need to buy Cheers. If DOU Everywhere, you can just get Cheers for your wife, but you must wait until you are onboard.
MURCOTT Posted March 5 #17 Share Posted March 5 I would not buy it, it's a waste of a lot of money!
Rare SimplyAlbert Posted March 5 #18 Share Posted March 5 I wouldn't buy it. I'd go with either putting $500 in cash down when I boarded or getting a $500 gift card and just tell your wife to order whatever she wants. DH and I never get the Cheers package as there's no way we'd have a bar bill that high, even with drinking anything we wanted.
jsglow Posted March 5 #19 Share Posted March 5 I'm going to get in a heck of a lot of trouble here. There is ZERO chance I would willingly agree to my wife's original 'demands' in a similar situation. Folks like @ninjacat123 have provided you with completely reasonable compromise solutions. But we all make our bed in life so I feel for you brother. Good luck!

We bought a local wine in each country and enjoyed it at dinner that night.

She's my wife. That's how we roll. I just make the travel arrangements. Nothing stopping her from buying the cheers package with the same joint credit card if she really wanted to. I'd rather convince her than ignore her.
Rare carohs Posted March 5 #22 Share Posted March 5 Here's my advice. Say you're not going to get cheers, and in exchange if you manage to spend over $1200 she has the right to a big ole "I told you so" for the rest of your cruising days. Nothing like giving your wife the right to an air of superiority to convince her to go your way this time around.

Old Fart Cruisers Posted March 5 #24 Share Posted March 5 Another option is to go on the cruise with someone that doesn't drink so much and leave the lush at home😅
Joebucks Posted March 5 #25 Share Posted March 5 I wouldn't spend the $1200 even if we didn't have DOU. What is also silly is spending "$500" to "trick" yourself that you have a mini all-inclusive package.
