Carnival Conquest had to come down to Grand Turk to bring the guests back to Port Canaveral. Freedom then sailed to Freeport looking like this: After 4 canceled cruises, they made a temporary repair And then here are the new wings at the shipyard in Cadiz before it was put on the ship in October 5
caribsun Posted March 24 #52 Share Posted March 24 As you may have heard, Carnival Freedom experienced a fire in its funnel yesterday. While we continue to investigate eyewitness reports of a lightning strike, our technical team completed an assessment while the ship is in Freeport today. Regrettably, the damage is more than we first thought and will require an immediate repair to stabilize the funnel and that necessitates the cancellation of your cruise. We sincerely apologize for the unanticipated disruption to your spring break plans and are deeply disappointed that we will not be able to deliver the cruise we had planned for you. We will automatically process a full refund of your cruise fare, including pre-purchased Carnival shore excursions and any FunShop purchases to your original form of payment. Please be advised that it could take up to three weeks to process through your bank. In addition to the full refund, we are extending a 100% future cruise credit (FCC) for all guests so that we can welcome you back on another cruise.* Please note that the FCC will be available for use starting March 26, 2024, and must be redeemed by March 31, 2025, on any departure open for sale. If you have made non-refundable air travel arrangements on your own, we ask that you work directly with your airline. If your airline offers you an air credit for your non-refundable tickets, we will reimburse you for air change fees of up to US$200.00, per person, with supporting documentation. Please understand that, should you receive any compensation from any party, including your travel insurer, for these miscellaneous travel expenses, no reimbursement will be provided. Please submit your documentation to airreimbursements@carnival.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I know this is very disappointing news for those who were so excited to have Fun on the Carnival Freedom and I do add my most sincere apologies. I hope you and your family can use the 100% refund and the 100% future cruise credit to plan on having more fun with us very, very soon. I will be back on this page as usual tomorrow to help as many of you as I can and for now wish you all goodnight. Earthworm Jim Posted March 24 #58 Share Posted March 24 (edited) A real gambler who lives close enough to Port Canaveral to take a trip on short notice and has free time could book a slot on the April 4th sailing. There are still inside and suite cabins available. If it ends up being cancelled, you'd presumably get your money back and a 100% cruise credit. But you'd have to be willing to take the cruise if it goes. Wait, that's 11 days away, not this week. Never mind. Nobody in their rooms, everyone gambling and drinking lol Sorry y'all had to go through all that. Some of the articles on line are confusing. (Not Here on Cruise Critic). One article said nobody can go on the open decks and another account said passengers sequestered to their Cabins. Looks like the ship is heading back to the home port. (Miami)? I'm glad to hear cruisers are dining and at the Casino. Are any last night activities cancelled?

I know the feeling. We had booked way in advance a cruise for our 30th anniversary a Baltic cruise on the Star Princess. And then that ship had its balcony fire the year before, and we wondered about that.

mz-s Posted March 25 #69 Share Posted March 25 The fact that the fire seems to be localized to the fiberglass shell of the funnel does seem to make the lightning theory more likely.

Rare notscb Posted March 25 #75 Share Posted March 25 I'm wondering how they were able to keep going in a situation like this- @chengkp75 if you wouldn't mind imparting some wisdom here. Do they divert all of the exhaust/emissions to the other side or would the fire not have affected the piping in the area of the fire?
