Anyone Having Trouble Purchasing AARP Gift Cards Lately?

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to purchase a $500 gift card to apply towards our cruise since last week.  Princess gift card has disappeared from the rewards listings, but do show up when I search by name.  I have only purchased a $100 gift card previously, just to test it and that was over a month ago.  When I try to purchase the $500 one, it takes me to the payment screen and I get an error message.  It has happened on over 10 try's since last week.  I talked to our cruise mates and they were able to do theirs over a week ago.

I don’t see a problem with it.  PCL has never been on the top of the rewards page, you always had to scroll down 4 or 5 times.

I went all the way to the payment page, without issue.
Did you enter the CC, and then a problem?  Recheck your details on the CC, maybe?

I've been trying for days with no luck, keep getting error message after entering cc info.  Tried multiple times, different computers and different browsers, no luck.

Have purchased many times in the past.

Never mind.  Must be my computer.  Did it in the app on my I-Phone and it worked just fine.

What app?  AARP?  For the first time we bought some about a week or so ago.  We went to buy more today by signing myself up.  We had major issues because dh login had my email address and my cell phone.  I use my stuff so much more it was easier.  Didn't realize it would cause a problem.  First rep wasn't good and she ultimately "disconnected" me.  Called and got someone else who realized we needed to be transferred.  That person helped.  We had to first change dh email address to his so I could use mine.  Then I had to use his cell number for my login.  Ultimately we will change it.  However, when I went and found Princess gift cards and clicked on the $500 one I got an error message.  Said : We are currently experiencing technical difficulties in processing your request. Please retry in a few minutes. Thank you for your patience.  All I did was click on the picture and never got to even enter a credit card, etc.  I hope it gets fixed soon as I need to buy my max of 5 before March ends!

I can’t find the cards anywhere on AARP 😧

Thankfully I’ve already purchased my 5 for March, but I have two more cruises to pay off…

EDIT: explored the entire site and returned to the usual page, Princess cards were there again. But it feels sketchy

I recently had a problem purchasing them on the site from my computer. I called AARP customer service but they couldn't help me. I was able to purchase on my phone.

How recently?  I tried last night and this morning. Laptop and phone. Can’t do it. Message says tech difficulties. Calling is no help.

I tried Friday and Saturday on my laptop (work & home), I called and the person said it may be due to popup blockers. I tried my iphone yesterday logged in via google and I was able to purchase. Maybe I just caught it right.

Why in the world would you think it's "sketchy"?  AARP has been selling these gift cards for years.

Just make sure the URL you are at is not www.takemymoney.com/AARPfakeCards

There is an app for I-Phones and Androids that you can download to your phone in the app store.  Then enter your email and password.  It is a little bit hard to find the rewards.  It was buried under benefits.

I bought 5 $500 ones yesterday and no problem.  Princess Gift Cards with pin # appeared in email about 25 minutes later.  I know certain security settings on computers can cause an error message which happened to me before.  An AARP tech specialist sent email directions on how to fix the problem.  Probably need to call AARP tech support.

Thanks.  I found it yesterday.  Still can't purchase.  Get the same tech difficulties as on my laptop.  You are right though, the gift cards are hard to find.

I called AARP...again.  This time the rep said at first I wasn't logged in to AARP rewards. Then she said there was a tech issue and she had to fill out a "ticket" for the back end to look into it.  Said I would hear back in 3-5 business days. 😞. She said they usually email but I said if they should call to make a note to leave a direct phone # as I screen calls and if I don't know who it is then I won't answer.

Be careful what you wish for..................A few months ago I bought a Princess $500 gift card and my visa was charged. The gift card was never loaded. AARP would not help. I had to put a dispute on my charge card. It took 60 days because Visa gave Princess that long to respond and they never did. There are a few posts about the problems with gift cards on AARP. It is an a third party vendor so AARP claims no responsivity. There are better places to buy gift cards.
