I can’t speak to MSC or NCL but drink packages are MUCH more expensive on them than the extra $19 per day above crew appreciation and internet that passengers pay to have an included drink package when they book a Plus fare on Princess

Just looked on NCL. It's $109 per day for the Premium package, drinks up to $15. A Premium Plus at $138  per person per daywhich are all top shelf cocktails and spirits,Hawaii package $109 apparently a wide selection of drinks up to $15 + a 20% gratuity. An unlimited soda package $9+ 20% gratuity per person per day and finally an unlimited Starbucks package at £12.95 + 20% gratuities .

With those prices I will happily stay with my Plus package on Princess

Are the prices on these cruise lines higher for unlimited ? Also as I say, some would exceed the 15 limit and some wouldn't so I suppose as far as the unlimited cruise lines are concerned if you make a charge it evens itself out whereas Princess would gain because they would charge extra for those exceeding the 15 limit and also make on those that come well under it as well.

I don't see how price is relevant. The person I quoted was concerned that if Princess made their drink package unlimited, it would lead to "bad behaviour , drunkenness followed by bad language and fighting and impacting on other passengers." My point was that other cruise lines have unlimited beverage packages and it hasn't descended into chaos.

For anyone who like we do drink 10-12 drinks a day the Princess price is a much better deal. That alone would keep me off those lines

Perhaps it is partly about who can afford the packages? I guessing that at well over $100 a day it could limit how many packages are purchased.

At an extra $19 a day for unlimited drinks, I suppose I can see attracting a lot of big drinkers, bachelor/bachelorette parties and spring breakers.

I do think the limit is about the very low price and avoiding sharing of packages though, not controlling behavior.

On NCL, nearly everyone has their "Free at Sea" promotion, which includes the unlimited drink package. No one purchases it at the per day price, they get it bundled into their cruise fare along with specialty dining, shore excursion credits, and wifi. When booking the Free at Sea promotion, you "only" pay the gratuities for the drink package which is why the price per day for the drink package is so artificially inflated. They can say the package is "worth" $109/day, so they can charge everyone the $20/day gratuity on the package.

Originally the drink packages were unlimited and limits came in when people started sharing with friends.

Right!  I keep hearing from other passengers that they feel as though the package isn5 worth it for them because they can’t drink 15 drinks a day but feel entitled to those 15 drinks if they did purchase the package.  It is not the point and has never been the point.

Even without coffee, water, soda or casual meals if you have at least 3-4 drinks a day you are ahead of the game   Don’t see those folks logic I am just glad we don’t have to pay by the drink anymore. We would each have a bar bill over $100 per day

Spot on deterioration of the purpose of the thread again by the package pushers. Way past last call time.

Back in the 1990’s I was running a $50 a day bar bill and that was when drinks were $5. Packages allow to cruise more. I you don’t like don’t buy them

It's the 10 page rule rearing its ugly head again.  Nothing on topic or helpful is ever posted after page 10 (except on Trip Reports and Live Threads.)

When Princess first rolled them out, I was a skeptic.  "Packages only help the cruise line and never benefit the customer" said I.  But I have come to believe that even at current pricing, Princess' packages are a win-win (assuming that one partakes in alcohol to even a modest degree.)

This is our main wish!!!! I need pitch black to sleep (partly why we often pick interior cabins) and those bloody floor lights that flash on every time you stick your foot out of the duvet along with that closet light that is sooooo bright just kill me.  I have a senior husband who hits the washroom a few times a night (I know, TMI 🤐.)  On our first Princess cruise our cabin steward rigged up something to cover the sensors for the floor lights at least but we/they aren't allowed to fiddle with the closet 'emergency' light.

Also can we please opt out of all the lanyard crap if we've already got one?  Think of how much money they'd save.

Of note, w are currently on the Discovery and that nonsense has been disabled.

The Premier wines aren't much better. We've already resorted to paying the little bit extra for those. But in Australia, at least, the variety of wines is still very limited - even our local cafes have wider selections. It's very strange.

Since we not interested upgrading our package - it's fine for internet and all drinks except wine - we just budget to buy wines by the bottle at the 25% discount. Not only do we get a better choice, we actually get to have the bottles on or near our table so can get top ups when we need them instead of having to wait until our poor waiter goes off to get us another glass of whatever. Oh how I wish Princess had sommeliers like Celebrity.

They now have sommeliers and they are quite good

Are you sure about this?  There is a difference between "the crew member in the dining room who knows the most about wine" and a "sommelier."  I haven't seen a real sommelier on a Princess ship in at least 8 years.  But of course, I am not on all ships at all times, so maybe there has been a change.

I couldn’t agree more. $60 is a huge bargain, especially for those who want internet access. I’m ahead after 2 glasses of wine even with half price wifi.

There has been a significant change in the last two years.  Yes, they now know their wines.  The only thing holding them back might be the selections onboard.

That analogy means nothing to me, I haven't been to either.

But I guess it depends on what type of coffee you like. Nespresso does make a true espresso - not a great one but drinkable. I have no idea what Keurigs make but I'm guessing it's more American-style coffee?

Keurigs make the coffee equivalent of American light beer. Take the average hotel-room pod brewer and make the coffee a touch weaker, and you've got it.

(Wet 'n' Wild is a chain of waterslide parks. Kids love them, but they don't compare to a multimillion-dollar recreation of Harry Potter's world or a ride through life-size animatronic dinosaurs.)

On which ship(s)?

There were no sommeliers on Diamond last November but we were very lucky to discover a waiter team who understood wine service.

We have found them on the Royal, Majestic, Discovery, Ruby and the Crown.

I also love having the package and I think the most I’ve ever drank in an entire day is 4 or 5 drinks.  Some days I don’t have any drinks containing alcohol. It’s just really nice to be able to have coffee, bottled water, mocktails, and try a new drink when I want to without worrying about a bill at the end.

My wish would be…

That they would make the Casino smoke free. Yea, smokers are slime and should not be allowed on ships (I'm not a smoker.  I quit many years ago  But I think smokers should be able to smoker in at least one place inside.)

That they would make Dairy Free items like chocolate cake. If I can purchase Vegan cupcakes at Whole Foods why can’t I find one on a Princess cruise? You need to make your request known to Princess.

That all ships had signs in the international café and the buffet listing allergens. I have seen photos of signs on, I believe it was the Sky Princess but I have never seen signs on any of my cruises. You can always ask the server behind the counter.

That they had Dole Whip on the Lido deck so I could have a cone too instead of me watching my family and friends eat all of the good stuff.  ??? You mean you want a Dole Whip Cone?

I know that I have a lot of food wishes but it totally stinks to be told that I can’t eat until the next day when the MDR opens. That has actually happened to me on more than one occasion. Stupid dairy allergy.
