Emerald Princess - Voyage E421

May 3, 2024

"Dear Princess Guest:

Earlier this week an inadvertent error resulted in an incorrect offer for Emerald Princess voyage E421, which allowed you to book a sailing with us for no cruise fare cost.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for this mistake.

In recognition of our error, we will honor the price you have already paid and apply it to an interior stateroom. Should you prefer the original stateroom type, you may purchase an upgrade at a specially-reduced rate. Be sure to act soon as this offer expires May 6, 2024. Please be aware that if you cancel your voyage after that date, the $200 per-person deposit you paid upon booking becomes non-refundable.

In further recognition of the inconvenience, we will convert your original $200 deposit into an onboard credit (non-refundable). You can use this credit for purchases in our bars, boutiques, or photo gallery, as well as for dining, spa treatments, and shore excursions.

To manage your booking
Please call us at 1-800-774-6237 for assistance with your reservation and all related arrangements.

We appreciate your patience and understanding, and look forward to your sailing with us.

Best regards,

Jen Wright
Vice President, Contact Center Operations
Princess Cruises"

I thought that comp was interior room already?  Did it have a beverage package?

They sent the same form email for the Star comp bookings Oct 2025, except those were for MS cabins.  Disappointing they didn’t honor those.

Some people had up to a balcony cabin with plus package offer. I saw that Star booking but figured no way they would honor that.

I saw that and I assumed it was a computer glitch.  Is it ethical to book a "0" fare knowing well that it's a mistake?  Very few things in life are free and certainly cruising is not.

We had an ocean view room booked and paid all the fees per their terms.  When we received the same letter today, we decided to cancel because we did not want an interior room, plus we were loosing the Princess plus and the OBC.  It felt like a “BAIT AND SWITCH” scam!  I sent off a complaint email to Customer Relations, Jan Swartz, Jon Padgett.

I really couldn't determine if it was a computer glitch when I booked. I have casino status, and occasionally, I receive comped or heavily discounted rooms. On the same page, I also saw a lot of $49 per person cruises, such as Island Princess sailing out of NYC in June for 15 days. Now, I really don't know which one is real or if there's an error.

I have free offers from the casino.  I would be super-disappointed to learn this was a glitch.

"Bait and switch" is quite an exaggeration considering you could have still had a free interior room and you're out exactly $0 since they've corrected the offer and you've canceled with no penalty.

This is happening too frequently with Princess cruises.

The email does say there is a cancellation fee. Some say they will have it waived.

Yes, it was too good to be true, but some cc members are getting casino comps frequently.  No where on my booking receipt, travel summary did it mention casino.
I am truly sorry for sharing the offer info.

Has anyone inquired yet as to what / how much the "upgrade at a specially-reduced rate" is?

I thought this was a real offer as we get casino offers and had received comp offers on cruises up to 30 days. I didn't realize it was plus package as well until I looked at the app and it said I had wifi already. Hoping the upgrade cost is reasonable. I feel they could have thrown in some wifi to soften the blow and maybe a specialty dining meal.

Wish we had a resident lawyer in the house that could answer consumer law questions... It's my belief that an offer has been made by a company in the United States or in the state of Florida that they must comply with the original offer and eat the cost.

"Error prices" happen all the time, and no, companies in the US are not bound to honor them. (Not a lawyer but for decades have followed "deal" websites that find/discuss error prices.)

After seeing these two cruises for $0.00 fares, I was torn between booking and not booking.  In fact, I had the Star Princess cruise all but booked, even to the point of pushing the final button to make payment, but chickened out.  Ultimately, I waited too long and then it was too late.  I kept thinking of the phrase, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't."  I then decided to look into "error prices" and found that they happen all the time in the travel industry for airlines, hotels, cruises, and etc.  Website booking errors are bound to happen from time to time.  I then came across the fine print on the Princess website under "Website Terms and Conditions." (https://www.princess.com/en-us/legal/legal-information#:~:text=Princess reserves the right not,and your credit card charged.) Attached below is an image of Section 9.

I feel really bad for those that did book only to be disappointed, but as @TheMichael points out, Princess is not bound to honor the error priced bookings.

After checking out some sites on the Internet...., I believe personally that it wasn't Princess intent to defraud or bait and switch.. therefore, as especially since they have terms of use, I would conclude that you're correct

If you check out what I said above... your correct in "this" circumstance, but not in  all transactions or contracts!

have a wonderful weekend

It really comes down to Good Will.

Princess has offered atleast a small amount of FCC when they’ve accepted my money and can’t deliver what I paid for, in the past.

Not the case here.

I initially reacted to the email as a threat. Monday is the deadline to cancel outright and get my $ back.

I called. I cancelled.
I was told the cancellation fee of $540 will be waived.

I received a cancellation notice charging me $540, after my call.

The booking is gone from my Personalizer.

I am not surprised by Princesses handling of the mess after seeing how the Sun passengers were treated.

I have one fully paid cruise with them and a deposit on another.  They are no longer the type of business I choose to spend my money on, after this next cruise.

On my original thread, others mentioned they have had this offer and it was honoured and they took advantage of it.  So, the “too good to be true” really was true.  I suspect some who book will have their offer intact. Happy for you.
Please accept my apology for sharing the info.

Dog, no need to apologize. It was there for all to see. It wasn’t some kind of clandestine website.

while we all wondered if it was a mistake, we took the risk . The only issue was how it was handled. The very poorly written letter on a Friday night giving only until Monday, the automatic changing of the cabin without hearing each decision. The fact that the customer reps weren’t instructed about this before the letter went out.

It took me over an hour on the phone and 3 calls to correct mistakes. Cancel the booking, but this running thru hoops to do so was really unnecessary.

Besides not honoring the offer or offering something better than an IE guarantee interior, my major gripe is that the email didn't tell us what the pricing would be to keep our originally booked cabin.  Or the other cabin types.  They had to have known before the email went out so there was no reason to not give us the information we would need to make an informed decision.  And sending the email Friday evening so we can't contact our pvp until Monday was very poor customer service.

I have sent emails.

I attached my email cancellation charges etc and pointed out the Chaos they have created in our lives.

i referred Mr.P & MrS to cruise critic and roll call.  I know Mr.P reads Princess Passengers threads on Facebook.  I do not post there, only read it.

I do not think so….the Bait, an offer for a free cruise with Princess plus…the Switch…changing their offer and now if you want to go it will cost you more if you want to keep the category you booked and pay the fees per their terms.  Plus, they took away the Princess Plus and changed the OBC from $200 pp to $100 pp. I would not have booked the cruise under that offer…so I was Baited and Switch. Plus, only giving a 3 day lead time or the deposit was non- refundable.
