Recent NYC Haven security line experiences

Recommended Posts

Hello Fellow Cruisers,

I just came across a bit “controversy” on another cruise discussion site as to whether there is currently a separate security screening line for Haven passengers in NYC. Some say “yes” enter the terminal on the far left while others say “no” the Haven experience does not begin until after clearing security. Does anyone who has cruised in the past several weeks care to comment?

We got on the Joy on April 14.  There is definitely a separate security line for Haven. It’s on your left as you enter the terminal.

To clarify, is this after you enter the building?

Inside the building is the only place where's there's a security screening line, so yes, it's after you enter the building.

We've sailed there several times over the years and they do change things up at times.

Go in, place will be swamped, look for signs, then people who have names on list, they won't believe you, insist, then escort after showing your papers.

When we were last there 18 months ago the security line for the Haven was to the right as you look at the river. The actual Haven check in was all the way down near the end on the left side. Been to NYC a bunch of times and I swear each cruise things are moved around

Sailed out of NYC plenty of times, too.

Have seen Haven check in to the left and to the right once you enter the building.  Never have seen any sort of separation of lines outside.  That would be a tough thing to implement.

In our three NYC cruises...all of which were more than a year ago, so none of this may apply, but it is what our experience was:

April 2022 - no Haven security line. Haven was taken after security.

September 2022 - Haven security line, to the left as others have stated

December 2022 - Haven security line, to the left as others have stated

Based on my experience, and many others (including a lot of folks above), I'd say the Haven line is available prior to security.

Yes, there is a separate line for Haven going through security. You can't miss it. Big, gold banner-up that says

In April 28th for the Getaway TA, that sign was missing and the crowd control.pepple outside the terminal were saying there was no Haven

line and herded us onto the ridiculously long regular line.

I had to ask 3 different people until someone directed us to the left line that until that time was being used for disabled people only.  Once we got to the Haven check-in line after security, I mentioned it to the NCL staff and they said they would straighten it out.

Boarding in NYC that day was a cluster@$*@

The staff in the terminal are all port staff. They are hired personnel who work for which ever cruise line is in port that day. Some would have no idea what a "Haven" is.
