Rare YVRteacher Posted July 9 Author #401 Share Posted July 9 Our originally scheduled time for Corner Brook was 7:00am-3:30pm. I had ordered room service breakfast using the card and was able to adjust the time from 7:00am to 9:00am since they hadn’t removed the order card from the door handle at the time of the medical evacuation. At 8:40am today the captain announced we would pull into Corner Brook at 11:00am and would depart at 7:30pm. Breakfast arrived at 8:45am and I enjoyed it all. I requested the egg sandwich without meat and they delivered! I also got to check “breakfast in bed” off my birthday list. Yay! First glimpse of Newfoundland Has anyone seen Come From Away?
Rare YVRteacher Posted July 9 Author #402 Share Posted July 9 The sail-in to Corner Brook is stunning! My original shore excursion meeting time was 8:00am (hence the breakfast delivery) and while I was out of the cabin requesting the port guide since I can’t use the Princess app a new ticket was delivered. My updated meeting time is 12:00pm. This suits me perfectly!

I could not get myself to attend a live production, but I have watched the filmed live version from Broadway. It took me a period of five days to watch the entire musical; it triggered memories from my own life on that day and during the aftermath. Nonetheless, it is a great musical and highlighted the absolute goodness of humanity in times of distress. Rare schmoopie17 Posted July 9 #404 Share Posted July 9 (edited) "Last night was poke bowl action station! It was amazing. Each item had been seasoned to perfection so I ended up with a bowl of umami." If you liked the umami, you should try the udaddy. I hear it's especially good in the new dish called "Who's udaddy?" WisCruiser2 Posted July 9 #407 Share Posted July 9 @YVRteacher, you keep mentioning that the app isn't working for you. Have you tried asking the "Ocean Now" tech folks (they should be somewhere on board) for help with it? Apologies if you have done so and reported on it. If you take notes and remember the names of people you want to commend, you can put them in there. It's very important to the crew to be recognized in these ways as apparently their bonuses and promotions depend on it. I take pictures of the name tags of those who provided exceptional service and reference my photos when I'm filling out the survey. Agree it really helps the crew.
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted July 9 #409 Share Posted July 9 I read the book. I didn't know there was a movie from the production. Others have told me that the Broadway play is done well. 2 hours ago, Sugar Magnolia said: I could not get myself to attend a live production, but I have watched the filmed live version from Broadway. purpleally Posted July 9 #412 Share Posted July 9 4 hours ago, YVRteacher said: Because I had stayed out in the sunshine reading on deck, I had a late-ish dinner and just had time to change out of suntanning clothes and into casual theatregoing garb before the early show started. At 7:20pm there was a line up out the door for seats. At 7:25pm they released the Premium reserved seats and the accessible seats but there were still more people than seats. I had to stand but didn’t mind. The show was called Spectacular. Did it live up to its name? Absolutely! It was a high octane variety show of music through the ages. From boogie to Beyoncé each number was excellent and I highly recommend taking in Spectacular if you have the chance. Just arrive early to get a seat! Overheard in the theatre: (This anecdote will only be funny if you know there is passenger on board who is a priest. He wears his floor length, heavy black robe everywhere.) Tonight the priest left the theatre production extravaganza early (Lord knows why: it was excellent!) As the priest ascended the stairway a man near me turned to his wife and not-quietly-drunkenly-whispered “It’s dress up night and that man dressed up as Harry Potter!” He got elbowed by his wife who whispered back “he’s a priest!” Funny our priest loves to cruise but I guarantee you will not know he’s a priest!
arizonaperson Posted July 9 #413 Share Posted July 9 @YVRteacher maybe the passengers you saw last night in the buffet that were dressed in their ball gowns and suits for formal night, perhaps they couldn’t resist the poke extravaganza either and maybe they were on their second dinner ( one in dining room, one in buffet) or maybe they were just passing by to get a second dessert? I love poke. I am absolutely the loving your Live from -very informative, entertaining ,and funny.

Looks like it is currently only on Apple TV+. I saw the show on Broadway twice...it was so good the first night that I went back the next night to see it again. Very emotional but could be my favorite of all time.

Possibly Eastern Orthodox? I don’t know any priests who wear long robes. Usually the only tell is the collar and some elect not to wear even that. Rare JGmf Posted July 9 #416 Share Posted July 9 5 hours ago, YVRteacher said: Many drinks on Princess seem to be excessively sweet Definitely agree. I usually ask them to make them not so sweet.and sometimes it works. Worst one is the piña colada. To me, their version is rather undrinkable.....but that doesn't stop me from trying one anyway every time I cruise on Princess, asking them to tone down the sugar, hoping for something more authentic....and I've had zero success in many tries! No bueno on that.

It is a shoreside problem and is a known glitch. There is a reason which I’ll explain later.

Rare YVRteacher Posted July 9 Author #420 Share Posted July 9 I’m not on those decks. The helicopter was extremely loud, like listening to a chase scene in a movie theatre with surround sound turned all the way up! I don’t think anyone could have slept through that. Well, maybe the guy in the cabin next to me. He can obviously sleep through loud noises. 1

BabySarge Posted July 9 #423 Share Posted July 9 Welcome to Princess! I'm thoroughly enjoying your "Live from...", writing style, and glad that you are having a good experience so far. While the Island Princess isn't our favorite Princess ship, we still like her enough to have spent 111 days on the World Cruise in 2023, and we've already booked another 102 days for the 2025 World Cruise on her. The thing we miss is, as others have mentioned, there is no International Cafe; however, hope springs eternal that whilst she is in dry dock at the Fincantieri Shipyard in September corporate will have finally gotten tired of all our whining and begging and put one in as they did on her sister ship the Coral Princess. Happy sailing. 5
Rare YVRteacher Posted July 9 Author #424 Share Posted July 9 Welcome to my first ever Princess shore excursion. I appreciated the organization and the calm demeanour of the shore ex staff. I’m sure it was a scramble for them to get thousands of tickets reprinted and redistributed and to communicate with shoreside tour companies to make arrangements for the change in timing. I was impressed with the whole procedure. Our guide is a Newfoundland relic who does not pronounce Hs. She pointed out the ospital and city all. What she lacked is Hs she made up for in lipstick and shushing people when she wanted to talk (spoiler alert: she wanted to talk the whole time.) On our way to the first lookout she narrated Captain Cook’s istory in Newfoundland and told us where the eadquarters were. She couldn’t figure out how he got to the top of the mountain in the 17 undreds but thought maybe it was by orse and buggy. Our first stop on this comprehensive shore excursion was Captain Cook’s Lookout. As far as scenic overlooks go, this was a good one! I love this spindly tree undergoing a sudden growth spurt, like a grade 7 boy unsure what to do with this new height. I found a path and followed it This was a favourite part of my day! From the overlook we could see the new ospital and long term care. They need doctors, nurses, RCMP officers. Ouses here cost $200 000.00. 13
Rare cr8tiv1 Posted July 9 #425 Share Posted July 9 There are lots of reasons why they evacuate the rooms. Helicopter/patient's safety are forefront. But then there are other things like people wanting to get a photo with a flash (distraction). Laser pointers (idiots) Cabin/balcony lights are on And the list of uncommon but not unthinkable events could impede a successful rescue mission. I am surprised that with as many at sea evacuations, Princess does not have a heliport. Must be at least a few across the fleet, everyday?
