Are you having psychiatric care to prepare you for impending disembarkation? Or are you actually looking forward to it?

I am absolutely dreading it…

Thinking about doing the small four nighter to Rotterdam in late August to cure my withdrawal symptoms.

All good things must come to an end though, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, hopefully my posts reflect that as well.

Don’t get me wrong - Queen Mary 2 still remains my favourite, seeing her twice in Southampton has reaffirmed that.

However, Queen Anne definitely surpasses her in some regards, and likewise Queen Mary 2 surpass Queen Anne in others. It’s definitely becoming a tie-breaker.

I definitely stand by a point I’ve made perhaps in another thread or elsewhere, but Queen Anne will be my preferred ship for the long trips (despite the storage problems) and Queen Mary 2 will be for the transatlantics and special voyages for me.

Of course, Queen Mary 2 will always be special because it’s where I met my partner. But likewise Queen Anne we’ve been introduced to it together, also making it special.

(Sorry went a bit off-topic from the original reply, but I think it made sense to summarise a bit here)

Good call - you will be ready for it by then! Thanks for taking us along on your extended and extended and extended trip - much appreciated! Have you got any plans for QM2 in the pipeline?

And being currently on QA I am sure that is what people are thinking and can only speak for Britannia, other restaurants might differ, but the dress standards are beyond belief and in many people's eyes a dropping of standards to attract a certain clientele. Nothing is said to these fellow cruiser's and is certainly not Smart Attire. If that is the way forward for Cunard then I can see a dramatically different cruise line in the future.

Intriguing ... what exactly are these clientele wearing?  I've some pretty weird ideas running through my head now!

No worries, it’s been a little spaced out with no updates on some days, but I tried my best!

We’re scheduled to do the 400th crossing, however that clashes with the short voyage on Queen Anne - but I’d do the Queen Mary 2 voyage over that.

Other than that I’m very interested in doing her first Panama Canal transit in 2026.

Haggis nachos, nachos being sliced tatty scones ( no, I had no idea what they were but think fried potato cakes).

So is there anyone hinting on board that there might be a chance of improving storage in staterooms? That (and the Queen’s room) appear to be the main negative feedback. And indeed are there any locations in cabins to allow for adding wardrobes or anything. @Victoria2 I take it plenty of storage in Queens?

I would say no in PG unless they can introduce drawers under bed! We are liking the living space and shower is excellent but do find the cabin dark as long and narrow! Queens room is a definite no for me - no room to expand and the continual use of plastic conference chairs is a put off! We have enjoyed some great shows in the Royal Court and Bright Lights so positive and negatives for us!

No walk in closet as the Vista's 2 but we found we have had but plenty of space to lose stuff! 😀

Anne’s Q3 has excellent storage:  a walk-in, plenty of shelving and drawers, and another hanging cupboard (closet for our American friends) with more shelving in the entrance area.  It would certainly be adequate for a world cruise.

Was this a special order, or on the menu? Looks wonderful.

Balcony Britannia cabins have awful storage space and wardrobe space. Anyone on more than a ,,14 nt cruise is going to struggle. With size of cabin being small cannot see how it can be improved.

A special dinner order. I was just lucky to get it for lunch as it is an evening off menu order.

Cabin
Superb.

Smaller than the Vista equivalents but a much better utilisation of space. Reading comments on other QG cabins, I do wonder if there is enough  wardrobe space for a worldie without storing unseasonable clothes in a case, but as we will never do a worldie, that’s up to others to find out.

Staff
Wonderful. Every single member of staff we have encountered has been lovely. I do detect a slight wistful look when talking about previous ships but this is still the settling down period so hopefully, everyone will settle into their new contracts.

Food
Occasional meals could have been hotter but choice, taste, off menu opportunities and overall quality was top notch and the service has been brilliant. No 'fawning', just well trained excellent staff.

Ship.
OK. Annie is not Victoria and that’s a non negotiable minus. If QV was doing the Southampton run, then no contest, but she isn’t when we want to travel so we have had to compromise.

However,

Annie  has grown on us. There are points which will never be addressed- thinking here pinch points where wheelchair navigation involves getting passengers to move for us- and The Lifts as far as overly quick door closures and I guess, I have to add the Prom deck isn’t as wide as others and so swift walking becomes a 'excuse me' but as it’s been wet or damp on frequent occasions, if I’ve  ventured out, I have been walking carefully so would probably have been the butt of excuse me's if others had been walking too.

Ignoring  all that, as a ship which was seen as a potential nightmare pre our first trip in May, she is so far from that.

No, she is not a Cunard ship in the traditional sense but she IS a Cunard ship too. The daily programming is the same, the staff have miles of smiles and are there to ( mostly, given a couple of others' experiences) help and assist.

I would be lying if I said everyone dresses to the old Smart Attire of pre Covid. They don’t. Full stop

'Even' ( said tongue in check) in QG, an untucked, short sleeved Tommy Bahamas type shirt was seen one evening but  I was more 'shocked and amazed' by the fact that shirt didn't suit the portly figure wearing it rather than the shirt itself😀. I can just imagine the horror on some traditionalists' faces but as the vast, VAST majority of fellow passengers dress to advisories, that’s fine by us.

As a technophobe,  even I have been impressed with it all. The Essential internet  has been so easy and so much more reliable and swifter compared to last year. Almost top marks from me although free WiFi would get top marks. Not tried the my Cunard thingy onboard as we have other means of ordering/ booking/finding out but the rest has been so easy and our cabin has enough usb ports of both types.

So my overall advice would be, and I realise this is from a mainly QG experience so Myles and others will have to fill out this review with their own thoughts, if you can put up with the fact Queen Anne can’t and shouldn’t be compared to her sisters but she is still Cunard, then don’t be too quick to damn a product an untried product  by listening too much to the nay sayers.

She’s OK and we have had a great holiday.🙂

Thank you I am looking forward to getting onboard tomorrow and hoping for good weather. Looks promising for Southampton tomorrow and certainly lovely and sunny here a few miles away inland.

the first thing to appreciate is that QA is different from the Vistas. Once that is understand that you can start to see it positive and negative points

Britannia balcony fine except for inadequate storage space for a longer cruise especially one which embraces cold and warm areas such as the 3 weeks we have in December, Xmas Markets to Hamburg etc and then the Xmas cruise itself to the Canaries. The hooks fitted to the cabin are poorly positioned one being so close to bathroom that the use of a coat hanger invariably gets in the way of the door. The size of the hooks are such that a clothing tag of normal size cannot fit over them.

The bathroom is of course a great improvement.

Other  points: no bookshop, essentials such as tooth paste  soon sold out from a very small stock in the first place.

We did 2 tours; 1 Cunard, 1 independent both leaving 1130 returning 1630 approx. All food outlets closed at 1600 including pavilion Grill. On QV and QE daily programmes   indicate Lido Grill open to 1700 or later.

The most annoying  features are decks 10 and 11 with the Grills terrace preventing an easy passage through the length of the deck. We did eventually work out how to get to deck 11 and find easy access to both port and starboard sides of the ship.

Staff were of course upto Cunard, standard of  food satisfactory, the AFH fine once you worked out the layout. You no longer have to hope the toast machine was set correctly as toast is supplied to order by the staff.

Having said all this we can live with QA and adapt as necessary but we will be glad to get back on QM2 next year.
