Carnival Corporation Orders Three Additional Ships for Carnival Cruise Line, Introducing a New Class of Ships

I imagine Cheers works just fine on the ship while at Celebration Key. I thought Royal gave everyone free drinks all the time. It makes it easier for them to pick your pocket.

Couldn't care if Cheers works in the ship while we are docked at Celebration Key.  If Royal can extend their drink package to work at Coco Cay and Labadee, then Carnival should be able to do the same at the new private island that they own, unlike Half Moon Cay and Princess Cay.

Why?  Because Royal does it?  Does that make it valid?

For the few people who have to buy a package, Royal has dynamic pricing. It isn't the same cost for everyone.

The only people on Royal that get their drinks for free are the Loyal Royals, getting 4, 5 or 6 drinks per day and gamblers.  So that leaves a substantially larger amount of people who don't gamble or who have not achieved Diamond Status with Royal that purchase the package

And since I have first hand experience with Royal over the years, I can attest to this with first hand knowledge.

Maybe Carnival should price the package higher on itineraries that call at Celebration, Half Moon, or Princess Cays in exchange for letting customers use the package ashore. There may be some technology upgrades that need to make that happen, though. Any upgrades could be used for real-time Sail & Sign authorizations for purchasing anything in those destinations.

That will never happen.  They need to subsidize to make up for the drinks they give away in the casino and also all over to the gamblers depending upon how much they gamble.

Half Moon is HAL, Princess Cay is Princess, was hoping that things would be different on Celebration Key, but once again Carnival disappoints

The POS systems on the islands might not play nice with all of the Carnival Corp brands.

Don't include the antiquated Half Moon Cay or Princess Cay with their outdated POS systems.

Just compare the new start of the art Coco Cay versus Celebration Key.  Royal allows their drink package, while Carnival doesn't.  That all that needs to be said.

I guess we will have to see it before we start calling it names.  Seen Epic and Icon, both ugly.  Do you like apples?

I'm betting no matter what she looks like you'll be onboard.

Of course it does.  Why should Royal extend their drink package to Coco Cay while Carnival denies their cruisers the same option at Celebration Key that have purchased Cheers.  If Royal does it, so should Carnival.  You can only salute the Carnival flag so often, every now and then whether you believe it or not Royal does certain things better than Carnival.  And extending their drinks package to their own private island is one of those certain things

Why do you have cruises on Princess booked? Sounds like you would prefer Royal.

Carnival could give away gold bars if they wanted to. But they don't.

No, Carnival really shouldn't. Carnival would have to raise prices and that would put everyone back to work and unhappy.

Don't forget about MSC. Their drink package works on their private island. It would certainly be a nice perk and it is something our party has considered when deciding between private island hopping itins. Just remember, if you point out a benefit other cruise lines offer that Carnival doesn't you will be called out by two members here...

I'll be on Carnival for three weeks starting Aug 17th with a couple stops in HMC. I bring a little 6 pack beer can cooler that I fill with some beers/High Noons I purchase with my Cheers package onboard the ship and have a bartender scoop some ice over it and bring it to the beach. Always works well.

Yep - I was thinking that about MSC too.

Well, I guess CCL wants to get as much (additional) $ out of their guests as possible. And, looking at their stock, I'm all for that !!!

You're just talking to the wall with some of these Carnival stans. They'd grovel and argue against their own self-interest if it meant defending their precious Carnival Corporation against RCCL.

I love Carnival, have only cruised with them (up to now), but I'm glad I'm not so biased that I falsely believe they can do no wrong if it means getting one up on Royal, or worse just living in delusion that Royal can't or doesn't do some things better than Carnival. 🤷‍♂️

The Princess Plus package is the best value at sea.  The components of it on both Carnival as well as Royal would be double the cost.

Why would Carnival need to raise prices?  15 drinks is 15 drinks, whether they are consumed on board the ship or consumed on Celebration Key.  They can keep the 10 drink max thing on Celebration Key for those that don't purchase Cheers.  But if people are going to want to drink on Celebration Key, more than likely they would have already purchased Cheers.

Fully aware.  They both salute the Carnival flag and have nothing positive to ever say about Royal.

The price is based on most people NOT drinking 15 drinks. It isn't valid in ports of call. Why would Celebration Key be any different?

The current model means Carnival gets extra revenue from the Cheers package drinkers who have to purchase their drinks on the private islands.

If they extended Cheers to those locations, that would translate into a reduction in revenue, which they might balance by increasing prices elsewhere.

Princess Plus is very good and so is Princess Premier. One of the best features is cruisers can't pull gratuities.

Celebration Key should be different since it is owned by Carnival, unlike other ports of call like Half Moon Cay, Princess Cay, Grand Turk and Amber Cove.

Royal extends their drink package and MSC also extends their drink package to their private islands, so why should Carnival not do it?  It boils down to a simple money grab with the 10 drink max at the new adults only section at Celebration Key.

I understand that's how you feel. However we are discussing Carnival, not Burger King. You can't have it YOUR way. It is Carnival's Cruise Line and Carnival's rules. They aren't grabbing my money and there is no reason why I should subsidize others more than I do now.

Go back to post 317 when Tom posted how Royal's stock is doing compared to Carnival.  That's all you need as proof that Royal does certain things better than Carnival.
