I do have moral issues with Royal resuming visits there, I don't expect everyone else to agree with me by any means but I think the point needs to be raised. Also, in what major U.S. city are citizens being forcefully displaced by violence and murdered en masse? There's zero comparison here and it's a shameful comparison that minimizes the violence the people of Haiti are actively experiencing.

The only thing that it changes is a DRASTIC reduction in the quality of life to the residents of the peninsula. Royal continues to make the lease payments to the government, whether they stop there or not.

I'm sure there's been a change for the local residents, also caused by the literal gang war their country is experiencing. FWIW, Royal makes enough in profit to support those folks if they really cared about them. When Royal and other cruise lines stop calling on certain ports, it puts a lot of pressure on local governments to clean things up, we saw as much not too long ago in Ensanada. Again, I expect to be in the minority opinion (especially on these boards) when I say it's disgusting that Royal is going back in the midst of what's happening there. Rare A&L_Ont Posted 7 hours ago #41 Share Posted 7 hours ago There was someone here on the RC boards that has been on a ship that stopped a few times at night to drop off supplies at Labadee, since they stopped sailing there. I wish I could remember who it was. If I remember the ship was Adventure, but I’m going from memory. Anyone else remember who it was? @orville99 looking in the search box I think it was you. Well, probably because it’s the Haitian military doing the guarding. Makes perfect sense. Have you ever been to the Eiffel Tower? You’d be shocked, it’s like a demilitarized zone. Same with a lot of airports in the world. Soldiers in public with automatic weapons is not at all odd. There is no point whitewashing or sugarcoating it. Security is a concern a lot of places. When I visited Talin Estonia troops came marching through with automatic weapons. Outside a ATM across from the cruise ports in Nassau Bahamas there was a guard with an automatic weapon. Nothing has ever happened at Labadee but security exists there is just like it exists at many cruise ports. Some people don’t like seeing security. It scares them. This year there have been a bunch of mass shootings in the US and 2 attempts against a presidential candidate by people with AK type weapons. Nothing can be ruled out even at my local supermarket.
