Bringing Alcohol On-board

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried to bring alcohol on board during embarkation the 1st day and got caught? Especially from Cape Liberty NJ. If so what happened? Did they just confiscate it or did they take further action? I was thinking if you put clear liquor such as rum / vodka in a water bottle if they would make you open to smell it??

Please let me know what happened if they found the alcohol

Get the small bottles of wine (6 oz I think) or wine coolers and put one in each shoe when packing. Some of these bottles are plastic, therefore are unbreakable. Granted, only some types of wine are available, but it works if you like what kinds there are.

Okay I know they wouldn't be that drastic. But I did see in other posts where people were not permitted to purchase any alcohol on board because they were caught bringing stuff on. If that is the case I would not want to take the chance. But if it is something simple as they just take it away I am fine with that.

Also has anyone tried putting it in a clear water bottle?? Have they made anyone open them to smell and see if its rum or vodka?? Thanks for your help.

Put it in your suitcase and you should be fine, worked for me last november on the navigator. Luggage even got checked by customs before boarding and it still made it.

Will be trying again in October, on the FOS.

Good Luck!

I have not done this on RCI, but on Carnival I put vodka in water bottles and jack daniels in iced tea bottles and they were none the wiser. Although, they have wised up to that now so I don't know if they will check now or not.

I know many of you want that drink on the balcony before dinner, and so do I! I am all for sneaking alcohol on board, but it seems like it may be a little risky these days. I am not going to do it anymore cause I just don't want to take the chance of getting caught (and going to jail again:D Just kidding) But I have decided that it is just easier and less nerve racking to just not bring any. I don't care if anyone does since I have done it myself, but I think they are cracking down, so just be careful!

Dude! LOL! :) :) :)

Lucky you that you live in Vancouver, B.C. I go every year to visit...and dream of the day that I might be able to move there. We always stay at the Pacific Palisades Hotel on Robson. I LOVE it there.

Yes, I got caught. They immediately escorted me out of the terminal, put me in cuffs, took me to the station and booked me. Needless to say, I missed the ship.:D

Amazing............as I got caught as well! I wondered whether my wife would post bail before the ship left.......but she just left without me.

I was charged with possession of an intoxicating substance, if improperly imbibed.........and it was only after hiring one of the best criminal lawyers that I was able to post my $10.00 bail bond, but the department kept the evidence for the trial. Fortunately for me........before the trial was to begin.......the case was dismissed.......as someone had consumed the evidence!!:D

My wife............being the kind person that she is........told me all about her cruise!!:D

Wow, I wonder if we were in the same jail? But my bail was a bit more, as my alcohol was imported, and I had no suit packed for formal nights, they set my bail at $11.50;)

If I get caught I will tell them it is not mine and that it belongs to FitzLA.:D

You do that, but then when you are in prison, they will bring it to me on the ship, since they know who it belongs to now! :D

Put a plastic 1.75 ltr in your carry-on and a 1.75 in your luggage wrapped in bubble wrap. Do not try to conceal it. To do so pisses off security.

Avoid cruise lines that will not allow on board liquor purchases taken to your cabin. Screw those guys. Take your money some place else.

I cant believe that people who pay betwee £600 and £1000 for a week's cruise would then worry about having to buy drink from the bar ! For god's sake, a measure of spirit and mixer (and actually there are at least 3 measures poured into the glass) is about 6 dollars (£4)

Not PERMITTED to purchase alcohol on board??? I doubt that ever happened - RCCL is never going to hinder one of their best income sources.

I've asked this same question previously, and have never seen a response where there were any problems with a small amount of alcohol concealed discreetly in CHECKED luggage.

Let's all pick and choose which rules to follow. I think jeans and a tank top to dinner on formal night is a silly suggestion so I'll come drinking the booze i smuggled onboard. Does the word smuggle mean anything?

But seriously, OP - leave it sealed in the original bottles and make sure it is packed securely in your checked luggage. uct tape around the cap and mouth works to further the non leakage cause.

There is no reason to stress about this, they do not x-ray the checked luggage.

The only way they could possibly know about the booze is if it broke in your suitcase.

Smuggle away and have a GREAT vacation!

And, from someone who was on the mariner when the kid went over - if you are going to drink...

STAY AWAY FROM THE SIDE OF THE SHIP, AND THAT INCLUDES ANY BALCONY

Happy Sailing!

Buy the flask size bottles of booze that are plastic. They pack fine and slip nicely into a ziplock bag. No need to transfer into a waterbottle. All our liquor always makes it to the room in our checked luggage. the new wine 'cubes' pack great and fit great in the room fridge.

I totally agree. If you drink so much spirits that you feel the need to smuggle it on board, you probably have a problem that needs to be addressed by an aa meeting or two. Also, would you bring a bottle of wine into a restaurant that says no outside beverages allowed?

This is what I think every time I read these threads, too. I think it's not just "a drink on the balcony before dinner" that we're really talking about, and the cost of what is consumed in the cabin would be far, far more than $42 pp for the cruise without the smuggled booze.

To each his own, and I pass no judgement. However, it takes up a lot of people's time and energy, so it must be pretty important to them.

They don't pour them so generously on any RCI ship I've ever been on (if a "measure" equals a "shot", which is 1.5 oz?). And you're talking about house brands only - some of us are more high maintenance than that - my Grey Goose is more like $8.95/martini. Of course, I can only handle one, and it's usually in the Schooner Lounge, not my cabin, but I digress.

We usually bring a small bottle of our preferred clear liquids with us. The last few cruises we haven't touched them, so I'm wondering why we bother. We may have one hard liquor cocktail a day, then switch to wine. I think the cocktail prices are eminantly reasonable.

I would love to bring my own wine onboard because the ones I like cost $40+ on the dining room wine list (and some of those wines retail for less than $10 in California, so I'd happily pay a $12 corkage fee). I wouldn't mind paying restaurant (or even Celebrity or Princess) markups for the wine, but RCI pricing is highway robbery, pure and simple. It's not being cheap, it's wanting not to feel ripped off. After the first couple of glasses, I don't care all that much, though.

On our last Monarch cruise, there were at least 20 bottles of wine & champagne piled up at the liquor confiscation station. And nobody was checking to see if they were on the RCI list (some customer service reps have claimed that you can bring on 2 bottles if they aren't).
