OCruisers Posted July 8, 2004 #127 Share Posted July 8, 2004 Danno .... Reporting in and requesting membership! The #1 Thing we like about Celebrity is the passenger base on Celebrity Ships! If that makes us snobs -- SO BE IT! Thanks for this thread, DANNO! Happy Sailing! OCruisers :)
mromoff Posted July 8, 2004 #128 Share Posted July 8, 2004 Greetings Everyone!! Please count me in too! :D Danno, can we add something to the guidelines about being a "prepared for anything" traveler and always travelling with a Passport?
tuggers Posted July 9, 2004 #129 Share Posted July 9, 2004 You mean like with duck ( :) ) tape, power strips, wrinkle release, etc?
reggierail Posted July 9, 2004 #130 Share Posted July 9, 2004 One of the biggest enjoyments of sailing Celbrity is that so many of the passengers follow these rules already. I have met so many wonderful people on "X" and so many more here on the CC boards. Reggie
marvin Posted July 9, 2004 #131 Share Posted July 9, 2004 We used to be HAL cruisers until Four years ago when we went on our first X cruise. Have been on 4 Xcruises since and have 3 more booked at this time including Northern Europe July 31, aboard the Constellation. May we please join the XSNOBS. kilted scout Posted July 9, 2004 #132 Share Posted July 9, 2004 Please add in the Kilted Scout and BH. Being English we are supposed to be snobbish anyway, well if that means conforming to the rules of XSNOBS then we are - and I am pleased about it. The TUX and the Kilt (probably) will be travelling many thousands of miles to ensure that Formal nights are, and more than likely less formal nights will also be so. We had a fabulous 2 weeks in the Carribbean on a table of 8, who all 'Dressed' for dinner formally every night. It made it special, it was our unnaminous choice and I noticed we got served first every night!! Over the top - maybe, but I would never dream of going out to dinner without a necktie- even to friends, so why would i do less on holiday. Keep happy
Danno Posted July 10, 2004 Author #133 Share Posted July 10, 2004 A KILT!!! The epitomy of formality!! I think the XSNOBS have a place for you as Minister of Proper Attire :D !!
Chall70 Posted July 10, 2004 #134 Share Posted July 10, 2004 Greetings to all, I'm a realtive newbie to the boards but not to X. My wife and I have cruised 5 times on X in the last 3 years. We certainly enjoy X especially the the really nice pax. Outside of encountering a "boor" here or there, we have met nothing but wonderful people who have become good friends. I certainly agree to guidelines established by Danno, and here by make application for XSNOBS. Next cruise for us is Pan Can 3/13/05. Hope to meet some XSNOBS on board. Danno Posted July 11, 2004 Author #135 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Interesting 130+ replies and we seem to have almost unanimous acceptance of the XSNOBS philosphy :D ...so is it the loud, drunk, obnoxious, deck chair hoarding, kid ignoring, walkie-talkie carrying, non-tipping, crew abusers, CAN'T READ or WON'T READ  ?? Where are these people...we've all seen them but they don't seem to be able to step up and explain their side of the story. Thanks all...it's nice to know there are a large number of us who still think they is a place for manners, courtesy and tradition.
gkm Posted July 11, 2004 #136 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Danno, Don't forget to include those people who refuse to follow the dress code! ... and those that as soon as dinner is over, change into their shorts and tee shirts! Garry
tuggers Posted July 11, 2004 #137 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Could it be that some of those rude and offensive people are under the imression that they are neither rude nor offensive and that it is always the 'other pax'? that we are talking about?
babylene Posted July 11, 2004 #138 Share Posted July 11, 2004 I have been following this thread...and Tuggers...i think you just hit the nail on the head! Don't you notice that people who are so sensitive about others' insensitivity towards them...are also oblivious about their own insensitivity to others? Galer99 Posted July 11, 2004 #139 Share Posted July 11, 2004 I've just discovered this thread and please sign us up as we have been XSNOBS for a loooong time. We just didn't know there was an organized group!
bananavan Posted July 11, 2004 #140 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Danno: Let us assume that the rude obnoxious folks do not have access to a computer thus they do not post here. We were fortunate to sail on Century at Xmas and as a result most parents were attentive to their offspring. I know that when we sailed the Summit, (And NATURALLY did not get any special price!!!!!!!!) there were a few busloads of senior citizens who got last minute deals from their travel agents. Some of these folks paid as little as $500 for the ten day cruise. They had NO intention of providing gratuities as they felt that they had already spent enough. The good news was that they did not have access to any cell phones, but they seemed to arise very early each morning in order to reserve as many pool loungers as their respective collections of clothing would permit. :D Perhaps we might assume that the rude people are presently sitting in large hats in front of others at Blue Jay games. (Little bit of Canadian Culture there for you Danno.) Or they are at the movies and their cell phones are ringing. They might be letting their kids run through an airport right this very minute. Please, have a wonderful day everyone. We will hold this thread open for you. :D
Danno Posted July 11, 2004 Author #141 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Banana...if there was any misconception that seniors were default members of XSNOBS...NOT A CHANCE!! This group is as guilty as any other...except perhaps, they should just know better  . They will only be XSNOBS when they adhere to the guidelines...just like every other age group. bananavan Posted July 11, 2004 #142 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Dan: Please do not get your tuque in a turmoil. :D I was certainly NOT giving the Seniors a default entry into XSNOBS. I would NEVER presume to be in charge of registration. I live year round in the land of the Sun and Seniors and can assure you that many people seem to leave their manners at the Georgia border. I was simply pointing out that they might not be posting on this thread because they are somewhere else right now. (Using that sonar penny finding machine, sorting their nickels for the slot machines in the Casino etc.) The crew on the Century at Xmas told us some horror stories about the trip prior to mine. 1700 heavily discounted cruisers. The crew KNEW it was going to be tough when they could not get co-operation for the lifeboat drill! Security was called three times in one evening to attend to fracas in the Casino as octogenarians hit each other with their canes to rid the competition on the slots. Our wonderful waiter told us about the arrival of 1000 like minded cruisers who all wanted three egg white omelets promptly at 7. They EXPECTED the waitstaff to read their minds and when they did not, they became belligerent and used that as a reason to avoid the gratuity. After my first X cruise on the Summit two years ago I did question my sanity in terms of returning to the seas. Then we took the Century and are now returning to the SUmmit for a month. May we all learn to say, Thank you. Those are the two easiest words and make the biggest difference.

RodPat Posted July 11, 2004 #145 Share Posted July 11, 2004 I have been away for the past 10 days with no access to a computer. Please count me in the XSNOBS club. That is one of the main reasons we travel on Celebrity. We like quiet and refined. We work hard during the year and when on vacation we wind down. We always remember to bring our manners with us. bananavan Posted July 11, 2004 #146 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Thank You Dan, I can only hope that I live up to the responsiblities of the job. Welcome RodPat and marguaret. Bless you. (Am I really a Minister? Wow and no need to go to Theology school either! Now I can afford another cruise. ) Might I also suggest that one of the things that people should avoid, for more reasons than it simply drove my 27 year old daughter insane? Please do not attract seagulls when in port. The canapes served in the suites are truly hideous but that is NOT a good enough reason to use them as bait for avian infections. We felt like we were on a ship captained by Alfred Hitchcock himself. How long would it take a group of XSNOBs to return to their cabins after dinner? Probably hours because we would all be holding the elevator for the others and declining the opportunity to board until everyone else had made it back to their cabins before us. Smile :D It drives rude people absolutely insane and costs nothing.
RodPat Posted July 12, 2004 #147 Share Posted July 12, 2004 We not only hold the elevator for people but my husband drives them crazy by asking them if they are having a good time. He feels no one wants to speak to one another in the elevator so he always tells them the elevator police are no where around so they can say hello to each other. Nothing wrong with being friendly and courtious. Pat
Lilitchka Posted July 12, 2004 #148 Share Posted July 12, 2004 Hey all you XSNOBS, we need help. We have a thread going for 12/12/04 Roll Call on the Millie and getting very little response. So depressing! We're inviting you all to drop in on our board and give us some encouragement. Gotta get a cc party going and get a good crowd together. Last year, we had so many on our thread for the 12/12/03 Summit sailing. We even got a great precruise party and a great table of 10. Come in and say hello and raise our spirits! Thanks. tuggers Posted July 12, 2004 #149 Share Posted July 12, 2004 I've been thinking about the thread I read yesterday about the large family that ran the waiters ragged all week and then failed to show on 'tip night' and how distressed the servers were. I would certainly hope that the XSNOBS would never, ever do something like this to an employee who had worked so hard to make our vacations special. I think it is just dispicable! These people work so hard. Regardless of how we personally may feel about tipping, these people should not suffer. If you want to change the system, work on that, but don't punish the workers. That would prove nothing except that you are not XSNOB material!
Stanley Posted July 12, 2004 #150 Share Posted July 12, 2004 Not tipping is poor. Not tipping when you are a big group and demanding, that's worse than poor. Tipping is part of the cost of a cruise. Do you think they tipped on their account and just weren't available in the dining room that last night? Let's think positive.
