Drew B Posted October 31, 2006 #26 Share Posted October 31, 2006 For me, it's the moment on a ship I've never been on before that I leave my carry-on bag in the cabin and venture out to explore... I try, in the first few hours, to see EVERYTHING so I'm sure that I'm not missing out later on...
Rare Germancruiser Posted October 31, 2006 #27 Share Posted October 31, 2006 HI, what a nice thread, other then those sometimes a bit frustrating complainings about everything! I thought about the BEST thing on a cruise. First highlight is when I see the X on the funnel of " my" ship when approching the port. Then the first steps on deck with the welcome drink in one and the handlugage in the other hand. All the hussle and traveling stress is behind me then. Every cruise had its own or many highlights. The highlight of my Millenium TA Cruise in April/May this year was when I sat alone in Michaels Club on one of those great Seadays read my book and the Pianist Pearl Kaufman started to rehearsal for the evening concert. Ah- that was something really special- we chatted there after and I thanked her for the " Extra Concert"! What a remarkable nice lady! Happy Cruising to all! Jeano222 Posted October 31, 2006 #28 Share Posted October 31, 2006 For me it was when we were sailing at night around the lava flow in Hawaii. I thought to myself that i was seeing a sight that not many see from the ocean and how lucky I was to be able to be on such a beautiful ship [infinity] I will never forget that night. Rare Host Anne Posted October 31, 2006 #29 Share Posted October 31, 2006 Along with the moment I set foot on the ship, my most memorable moment was sailaway at sunset from St. Thomas on board Summit while the a cappella group "Metro" sang songs from West Side Story on the balcony of our corner FV. It was magical. Still gives me chills when I think about it! :)
Rare Germancruiser Posted October 31, 2006 #30 Share Posted October 31, 2006 Hi Jeano 22, I am on the Infinity, Hawaii in April next years, heard so many about the lava flow in Hawaii, can´t wait to get there... I am sure, that will be really a highlight. Anne, I know what you mean with the chills- feel the same when thinking about the hour in Michaels Club! suntan Posted October 31, 2006 #32 Share Posted October 31, 2006 My best moment so far was seeing my Mom's face light up when we drove up to the Galaxy in San Juan for her first cruise. She couldn't believe how big the ship was (she has since been on bigger ships). I don't think she stopped smiling throughout the entire cruise.:)
Literary Lynne Posted November 1, 2006 #33 Share Posted November 1, 2006 :) This is a wonderful thread - reading all your memories is a little slice of heaven! I adore first stepping out onto the stateroom balcony and feeling all my cares slip away. Sailaway up on deck with new friends and probably best of all, sitting in the whirlpool on an M class ship beside the Thelassotherapy pool as the ship sails along and watching the sun slowly set. Ahhhh mmmmmm.............. thanks for this great thread - you have made a lot of people very happy! Lynne :D
DaisyGirl55 Posted November 1, 2006 #34 Share Posted November 1, 2006 Is always when I see the ship for the first time before we board her. It doesn't even matter if I have sailed this particular ship before or not. Just seeing the ship - all big and proud as it is docked and waiting for me- it never fails to give me goosebumps! To know that I will soon be on "my" ship, that for a week or more I will be pampered, and fed, and entertained....that I will see things and go places...that I am ON VACATION....watching the sun set over the ocean....spending time with my very DH without any outside distractions...I could go on and on. Thanks to the OP for a great post. I am enjoying reading everyone's repsonses...and it makes me wish that my next cruise was a little closer! theduffys Posted November 1, 2006 #35 Share Posted November 1, 2006 Has to be sitting down to dinner on the first night and meeting our tablemates. We have never been disappointed and have often wondered how the very best people have been chosen for us to spend wonderful conversation hours with. SheilaNC Posted November 1, 2006 #36 Share Posted November 1, 2006 I have two (among many) 1) Sitting alone on an aft deck watching the glorious sunset as we left Key West 2) Seeing the faces of my 5 grandchildren looking out of the aft dining room window next to our table at the wake and the inside passage...it was their first cruise! Rare geoherb Posted November 2, 2006 #38 Share Posted November 2, 2006 We've had many great moments and met many wonderul people on cruises. That's probably why we keep taking them. The one that sticks in my mind the most is sailing away from New York City at sunset in October 2002. It was a mix of emotions--passing the Statue of Liberty but also the void in the skyline where the World Trade Center used to be.
Kathie44 Posted November 3, 2006 #39 Share Posted November 3, 2006 I think the first memorable moment was when we walked up to Explorer before boarding for our first cruise. We had no idea of ship size and were absolutely dumfounded, jaws hanging open. We really looked like "hicks from the sticks". Since then, it's been the first day when we are aboard and have the whole voyage before us. More recently we have taken longer cruises and have another one coming up. Now on Day 7 we feel a kind of euphoria, knowing we don't have to go home yet. :D 1/02 Explorer E. Carib. 1/03 Explorer W. Carib. 8/03 Summit Alaska cruise/tour 2/04 Adventure S. Mysteryreader Posted November 3, 2006 #40 Share Posted November 3, 2006 The first morning of our Summit cruise to Alaska, I woke early b/c I was still on Eastern time. The captain and I may have been the only ones awake at that hr! I went out on the balcony and swimming alongside the ship, directly in front of me, were five orcas. They seemed perfectly content to keep pace with the ship, never trying to move ahead, and the six of us enjoyed the beautiful morning for close to half an hr. It was a thrill I'll never forget. mrsmagnolia Posted November 3, 2006 #41 Share Posted November 3, 2006 I think you all put into words all (most) of what I would have said... My specialcruise memories from this past cruise were the new friends I met, the fact i finally saw dolphins playing around the ship (more than once), and snorkeling in Puerta Vallarta, and being escorted by a little yellow and black fish the whole time, then popping my head out of the water and seeing my husband in a raft, then in a kayack!!! He usually just sits in the chair and relaxes!!! AAAAHHHH..escape from reality, that is what a cruise is for me....:o
