Cabins to avoid

Broughton Hall

Recommended Posts

On the Statendam, we had a cabin close to the elevators, but never heard a thing.

In my opinion cabin location is the most important aspect of cruising. No, I am not talking price, or balconies necessarily, just location, location, location. For this reason we never put our names in for an 'upgrade', we 'may' get a pricier cabin, but, not the 'close to most areas, and not noisy variety'.

One thing, not mentioned in this thread, don't get a cabin opposite to a door that is NOT a cabin. These doors are usually staff entrances, and/or storage areas, noisy. Also I have walked by cabins where the casino noises are apparent, we have been lucky not to have had one, so, this is somthing else to watch for on the 'Deck Plan'.

Never, but never book a cabin without a deck plan, you may get a cabin that I have rejected!:)

We were in cabin 2638 on the main deck on the Zaandam and we never heard sounds from jogging or walking or anything that would have bothered us. We have been on four cruises with Hal and we have never had a bad cabin, location or otherwise. We are booked on the Rotterdam and we are trying cabin 1856 on the Dolphin deck. This will be first for us of a cabin that low or the way the sits. We have read good things about this style of cabin, for example 2619, on the main deck on several unnamed Hal ships. I also read where word was not to be spread about them, so please don't mention this anyone. OK. Thank you. If this works out like we are sure it will we hoping to try the unnamed cabin in the future.

er, that's my cabin. You're welcome to it when I'm not aboard, of course, but it is mine.

Laffnvegas has "her" suite; sail has "her" Maasdam. RuthC has "her" cabin. ;)

OK - worst cabin ever: inside on the Prinsendam. And 507 is the worst among the worst. I will give it one thing: it was quiet. However, the bolster had fallen off and big holes were still in the wood. Deep gouges went across the wood paneling also. This cabin needs serious work. All the insides have about half the living space of an outside (if you take away the bath and closet). When we moved the beds together, we had a man's dream - wall to wall bed. 138 tiny sq ft. Really tiny.

Now now, Brian ... they are the ONLY "Inside" cabins to have windows!!! So ... of course they GREAT. :)

And ... they're just a few steps away from a LARGE aft Verandah that I will guarantee you 3/4 of the passengers do NOT know is there. :D

I think this should read I-7086 and I-7083 should it not?? Numbers taken from deck plan, navigation deck.

We are booked in 7086 on Zaandam for a Hawaii Circle in Sept 08.

Please confirm or I may be in the wrong cabin!

  • 2 weeks later...
We are first time cruisers and have booked these connecting cabins for December this year - anyone got any comments about them?

We had 5127 last year on the Noordam and LOVED it. Very quiet and close to everything. Lots of places to store things. Unfortunately, someone else got that room for my 1/5/08 cruise (as well as every other cabin on that deck, apparently). Anyone have any info on C cabins? We booked 2 days ago and have a Guar. C.

Last year on the Statendam I was in K537 on the Main Deck. Very nice inside cabin just ahead of the forward elevators. This was my first cruise, and I was a bit apprehensive about getting claustrophobic in an inside, but that was never a problem. The only drawback was that it was right beside a entrance to the crew-only area--large stairway, storage, and elevators. It tended to be noisy late night and early morning. The crew may be sedate in public, but believe me they're rowdy behind the scenes.

 We have this cabin booked for a future sailing- it looks like a good cabin location but having never cruised this class of ship before we are curious.

Has anyone been in this cabin?

Thanks!!!!

We sailed on the Zuiderdam in cabin 6062 and loved the cabin and the location.

We just stayed in 4016 on the Noordam. This was our first cruise so I can't compare it to anything else. We booked the cruise in May and needed a quad and this was the only one left on the ship that wasn't a suite. We knew about the railing, and location over the Lounge, but decided that it wasn't worth not going. We were right.

It's true, these have a 4' high solid steel railing. We were a little bummed at first, but got over that quickly. We were on a cruise ship, with a balcony! The most inconvenient part was that our 3 yo could not see out without standing on a chair. Easily remedied with the deck chair. Even my 7 yo stood on one to get more view. Don't panic! Even the oldest was never high enough to be close to falling over and we never left them out there alone. These decks are also larger than the ones above, allowing for two upright chairs, and an arm chair and ottoman. We could have easily fit another chair or two if needed. As long as you don't mind people being able to look down on you from above......we didn't and almost never saw or heard from anyone up there.

On the location above the Vista Lounge, I did hear it on some/most nights when it was a really loud show or the base was heavy, but I'm the light sleeper. Everyone else slept blissfully. But even for me, the shows ended early enough, it wasn't really a problem.

We both agreed that although it might not have been 'ideal' and that we would choose something else next time, we certainly would not let it stop us from cruising when and where we wanted.

Does the Noordam have really late shows, or just the standard before and after dinner shows. We are booked in 4022 and 4021. We sleep with a sound machine, so if we were to go to bed a little early (not likely because we have late seating) the noise probably wouldn't bother us. However, if there is a very late night comedy show or something,,,that would bother us.

Did you have to ask for the chair and ottoman or was it already on the verandah? What was the decking made out of?

All the furniture is there when you arrive...

...you don't even have to build it!

;)

The verandahs for all staterooms but the PH are patterned linoleum over steel. PH's have teak verandahs.
