$hip$hape Posted March 6, 2017 #4101 Share Posted March 6, 2017 I thought that the points expired after five years and if some people take awhile to accumulate the 60000 points needed for the double meta upgrade, then wouldn't they possibly be backed into a corner to redeem those points and thus time would not be on their side. You are correct. Don't get backed into a corner. NJ near Philly ? Just buy a hot dog when you get to Havana .
ofhs93 Posted March 6, 2017 #4102 Share Posted March 6, 2017 Once you have 60,000 points, it’s my opinion that 4 years would be more than enough time to make a final decision for a cruise. I would completely agree with this if there were any way for me and most people to accumulate 60k points in 1 year....the problem is the 1st points start to disappear 4 years after they are earned. Again...if you cruise enough then this card can give you great benefits...I do not argue against that. Honestly I think it's a very good option for couples in their 50s where the kids have left the nest and the parents are financially stable...you can afford to cruise 1 or 2 times a year and can take 10-14 night cruises. The 60k meta upgrade really pays off when you can use it on a longer cruise... Happy Sailing to you all :)

The $100 bonus does not post to your account. 10,000 points post to your reward portion of your account, which can be redeemed for $100. After the close of your 1st 30 day cycle, it will appear in the rewards and be ready for redemption. So it could be 32 days to 59 depending on when the cycle starts and ends. I was wondering because I'm sailing in about 2 months and wanted to see if the intro promo bonus would post in time for me to use it for OBC. Sounds like it just depends on the timing. I recently got the credit card and found that the bonus points posted right after the statement cut. So it depends on your statement closing date. I did find that they would not change the statement billing date upon request though until after the first statement so I could not rush it along that way. Quilting_Cruiser Posted March 28, 2017 #4110 Share Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) For the first time since I got my NCL credit card, I'm thinking of using my points, and would appreciate help from the experts! I currently have 47K and am looking at a 14-night cruise in fall of 2018. I'll easily surpass the 60K points needed for a double cross meta upgrade. From following this thread, I understand that I can use 60K points to go from a ID to a BD, for example. Is that correct? At today's pricing, that would be a $2,500 saving. :D So, what's the best way to go about this? My questions: Can I book now, and I redeem my points for an upgrade once I hit 60K or do I have to reach 60K before booking? If I book now, do I book an inside that will upgrade to the balcony category I want or do I go ahead and book the balcony category I want and call later to have it repriced? Can I book with my TA or do I need to do it through the World Points rep? And, if I can book through my TA, do I need to alert her to my plans for either upgrading or repricing at a later date (depending on the answer to my previous question about which category to book)? Am I missing anything? TIA! QC Edited March 28, 2017 by Quilting_Cruiser
$hip$hape Posted March 28, 2017 #4111 Share Posted March 28, 2017 (edited) Quilting Cruiser, You have very good questions. For one, my TA said she was not allowed to do this transaction. You first have to pick a cruise, then go though NCL. Each cruise/ship has different benefits... take your time negotiating ! (Some reps are learning along with you. I had one that never saw someone with 90,000 points) Right now, we are in the same predicament as you, with 48,000 points. We are waiting for the new NCL cruise schedule coming out this summer. But we have been here before; got a big reduction on a nice POA balcony. Since you are a long time CC pax, and this is no longer a FAQ, Mail me @ shipshapeop@gmail.com Since I'm losing my memory, we may work on this together. ... about me... DW is a big time quilter. Quilting_Cruiser Posted March 28, 2017 #4116 Share Posted March 28, 2017 Tomberly, thank you for posting that information. I've only seen it on this thread, so it's nice to see it "officially." What it doesn't answer is how you go about doing it. Do I book an interior with my TA and then call the World Points number and upgrade to a balcony? Do I book a balcony with my TA and then call the number and have the booking repriced? Can I use my TA at all? Hoping someone can answer... :D

Rare Clay Clayton Posted March 29, 2017 #4118 Share Posted March 29, 2017 You definately need your patience....it took me several times to convince the agent that the award even existed. But it was worth it in the end as it "saved" us $2500 or so. It seemed to help when I was able to quote the award code and when I also was able to help her find it on their webpage. She then had me on hold while she talked to someone...I don't know if a TA can help you with this.... Presuming you have sufficient points, you don't need to book anything ahead of time. It is probably helpful if you know which cabin you want ahead of time, call and once you get (or train) an agent who knows about the double cross meta award, they will "book" you into an inside cabin cost wise but assign you to the balcony one. If you have a cruise reward, you can use it to hold the room. In my case, we were a few points short when I booked our balcony, so I used the reward to hold the room, then a week or two later, when the points had credited, I called, and after at least an hour on the phone, had our invoice adjusted reflective of the price of an inside cabin. Good Luck!

Talked to Blaine @ 1-866-954-4077 to redeem points. He knew what he was doing. We did a Double Cross Meta Upgrade(from inside cabin to a BA mid-ship balcony) for 60,000 points($600.00, we saved about $1300.00 . Congratulations :) I really love the Double Cross Meta Upgrade, hope it continues. We booked an unobstructed oceanview stateroom on the NCL Jewel on Monday with adult beverage package and 6 meal specialty dining for 14 day Panama Canal cruise in Feb 2017. Thought about it and decided this cruise was much better use of DCMU than our Alaska Sun cruise this May. Called NCL and asked to speak to a Worldpoint specialist who could assist with Double Cross Meta Upgrade. I cancelled the Sun cruise entirely and reused the 60,000 points to REPRICE the Panama Canal cruise paying for inside stateroom but receiving balcony. New price for BB (my choice) balcony stateroom is almost $1,000 LESS than we were going to pay for the oceanview stateroom. Again, my Travel Agent said SHE could not handle this transaction. Also have available the prices listed; the difference in price between an inside and a balcony so you can compare what's offered. You don't have to make a decision right away; you can always call back. Edited March 29, 2017 by $hip$hape
Quilting_Cruiser Posted March 29, 2017 #4121 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Thank you all. I've learned something from each of your posts, and I think I'm close to being able to sound reasonably intelligent talking about it LOL. Here's my plan: Talk to my TA and see if she even knows what I'm talking about and can help me with it. TBH, I'll be shocked if she does and can -- it's a large TA and I know more about cruising than she does. :D I book through her because she gives me a good chunk of OBC. Assuming she cannot help me, then I get together the documentation that I can actually use my points in this way, the balcony cabin I want to book, etc. For now, I'll simply book the balcony with the World Points rep and in a few months when I've achieve 60,000 points, I'll call back and ask them to reprice it at the current rate for an eligible inside cabin. The questions that remain are: Can I transfer my booking to my TA? If so, how do I do that? And, can she then reprice it to what she offers? Her fare for the sailing I'm planning to book is currently $200 lower than NCL's site so I'd like to take advantage of her lower prices. Am I missing anything? Again, thank you tomberly, $hip$hape, Clay for your patient help! QC

Quilting_Cruiser Posted March 29, 2017 #4123 Share Posted March 29, 2017 One more question... As I previously mentioned, I'm at 47,000 points so it'll take a few months to get to 60,000. Can I book with my TA now even if she can't or doesn't handle this type of transaction and then call the number to redeem my points later and have the booking repriced or do I need to do the initial booking through the World Points line? I think I know the answer to that, but just wanted to make sure... Thanks! QC
$hip$hape Posted March 29, 2017 #4124 Share Posted March 29, 2017 (edited) Am I missing anything?Once again, the main reason to choose the Double Meta Upgrade (inside cabin to balcony) is the savings. We turned down using our points for next sailing (transatlantic) because the price difference between the inside cabin and balcony was minimal. IMHO, If you are set on a certain cruise, just book it. If you can't use your points, save them for the next. In general, the more expensive the cruise, the more you can benefit. Good Luck! I'm waiting, and still looking for something in 2019. My points don't start evaporating until 2020. Edited March 29, 2017 by $hip$hape

My points don't start evaporating until 2020. With the current pricing, the saving would be just shy of $3,000. It's a 14-day cruise, so even an inside it's spendy for even an inside. That's why I'm thinking this is a good one to use the 60k points on. I heard back from my TA this morning and she said she can't take care of it for me and she doesn't think I can transfer it to her after it's priced. So, it looks like I just need to gather my information and call the World Points number to book.
