Explorer Live Now And Then

Recommended Posts

we are old hands at storms on the Explorer which is true! If you get seasick you may want to avoid cruising with me as I seem to attract these storms!

How true! Do you hear the same crashing and banging sounds like you did in that storm a few months ago? Wishing you smooth seas!!

Thanks for all the updates. You sure are having one heck of a cruise so far. At least you'll have more time to enjoy the OS...:) You've definitely hit some crazy weather on this cruise and the last B2B as well. First it's Barry and now Noel. I hope the weather improves and you don't have to go through what you did in May/June. Hang in there, be safe and careful! Keep us updated when you can.

Sea ya!

When we cruised the Explorer in May they had Champagne Cards at the Champagne Bar. Do you know if they are still avaialable? Thanks.

I remember they had those when we sailed October '06. I hope they do as I plan on buying one again! ;)

Is the Bartender Chris at the Champagne Bar? He also works at the casino bar. He was great, if you see him, ask him for some bar tricks. I LOVED the 5 point star......

He has all these mind tricks (with props) that he shows you.... It was great. Drinking and thinking games are always fun....

Update at sea from the Explorer:) Let's see an hour ago I was walking UPHILL in my cabin and it's better now so the stabelizers are out. Sea is very rough and we are still getting rocked but easier to walk with stabelizers. All outside decks are closed so everyone is safe inside the ship. After my last post CNN said Dominican Republic received 30 inches of rain so I hope we just go to St. Thomas. We are having heavy rain ourselves now.

They added some activities for today so here's just a few things

10am Fitness seminar NEXT!:D

10:30 Ultimate team trivia challenge Schooner Bar

11am Salsa dance class

Noon Royal Auto racing in Promanade

130pm Slot Tournament

2pm Wacky team Olympics Studio B

2pm Texas Hold' em tournament

There are several activities that were added for sports deck that will NOT take place but list mist have been printed early this morning. This is NOT Rockwall and mini golf competition type weather we are having here.

I should have known the PERFECT cruise to Bermuda last week was just too good to hold! :p One of the ships officers we know just told us we are old hands at storms on the Explorer which is true! If you get seasick you may want to avoid cruising with me as I seem to attract these storms! LOL! :D

Hi Suzanne,

What, they won't let you on the rock wall in a gale?:D I hope the weather improves for you, but I'd still rather be where you are than at work. The updates are great and I loved your comment regarding the fitness seminar.

First time sailing on Explorer, took the afternoon off to get a look when she came into Bar Harbor a few weeks ago - wanted to wear a sign to see if anyone was from the boards. lol.

Debalex - About the military discount, how did you know it was available on your cruise, had you already booked cruise? or do you have to book it up front as military? I have heard some people say that by booking early it is cheaper than a military discount? Can you do both? We're on Explorer Feb 24th. We usually book a year in advance and I have never been able to figure out if a cruise has military discount. Even tried calling RCI and was told they didn't have that information that far in advance.

Richbum - Want to say hi! We're from Southwest Harbor.:)

I can't believe how long it took me to read through this whole board. Wish I'd kept track of the hours. Great into, look forward to checking in and reading every night.

3:45 Update! The Captain just announced as the storm is so large he has received reports that it is not safe to go into Dominican Republic tomorrow due to weather so..........................we are now headed to St. Maartin! :D :D YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D We will dock at 10am and leave at 9pm. Weather forecast for St. Maartin is good! So we are so happy we are going there instead as we love St. Maartin! After that port we will continue on to St. Thomas and San Juan as scheduled! We still have rough seas, high wind gusts and rain throughout the afternoon and evening and we continue to go east away from this storm. We also have thick fog at the moment and the air is very warm and humid. I will say Captain Erik has been doing an excellent job of keeping us informed and also giving us detailed visuals of the storm track on Channel 14 which is an RCCL Tv station of course. No worries mon! We are headed to St. Maartin and we BE happy! :D LOL! By the way all excursions that had been booked in Labadee or DR have been credit to seapass cards.

Liked the fitness comment huh? :D Like I'm really going to run upstairs to jump around when I have my nice comfy bed and a good book! LMAO! If I could only stay awake to read it! :D

We do not mind stormy seas and we have been in enough of them to know the Explorer handles them just fine, the captain is excellent and we have nothing to worry about so we just enjoy the ride! Just think of it like a really long excursion but without the extra price! :p

thanks for the reports...hold on tight while you walk

a monday on a cruise is better than a monday not on one:) ...happy monday

Oh well now WALKING is a different subject altogether:D You know that well meaning straight line you attempt to walk that somehow ends up in you going to the far left or far right depending which way the ship is leaning. LOL! :p But that's what the rails are for so you can launch yourself off of them hopefully headed in the direction you are trying to go! LOL! :D I never thought of this as always stay on deck 10 so used to it but for anyone that will stay on deck 10 in the future, should you hit a storm you will hear many different strange sounds from above and that's just from things blowing/moving around the pool decks and nothing to worry about. You will also hear other bizarre sounds no matter where you are located and that is normal as the ship fights her way thru high seas and winds. It may scare some people but really, they are all normal noises due to sailing thru storms so do not worry. :)

Suzanne:

Thanks for the lastest update. Glad you are heading to St. Maarten. Love that island and it's one of my favorite ports to visit.

Glad that the Captain is keeping everyone informed via. announcements and TV. He's doing a great job and I'm very impressed. Everyone is safe and that's the most important thing.

I can't even imagine the noises you are hearing right now. It must be wild and erie at the same time. If EX can survive TS Barry it can survive this. Are the swells/waves worse than TS Barry?

Enjoy the rest of your evening and stay safe! I hope Dave is not trying to come up with new exciting ideas with his cruise toys! Tell him no windsurfing, kite flying, fishing, etc. right now. LOL

Sea ya!

Thanks for the update...I have friends onboard and they don't really use the internet. Sorry to hear about the bad weather and your missed ports. :( Glad to hear that everyone is safe. St. Martin is my favorite port and I would gladly trade Haiti and DR for a day in St.Martin. Hope you feel the same way, and hope you have a wonderful sunny day there!!!!

Hi Suzanne,

Great attitude!! More people should think like you do instead of complaining.

Soooo?? If you are bouncing back and forth in the halls are the drunks walking a straight line? LOL

Have a great time anyway. St. Marteen/St. Martin is one of my favorites. I know you will have a great time wherever you dock!

Just please don't bring this weather with you in April OK???

I have found that three Bahama Mamas will take care of the walking in high seas problem. The ship automatically adjusts for my staggering, so I am actually end up going in a straight line. I recommend this method highly.:D

We sailed with them and Trish on the Explorer last year ( hi Trish ) Trish, did you see the 'Sales Event' for tomorrow? It includes your cruise. I'll be on the Noordam that week :D
